Housekeeping

I'm going to revise this after thinking on it..most
Hilton suite hotels haven't had daily service in years...I don't think they came in my room at all. At other Hilton brands, with a resort fee, I've had the option to decline, as opposed to the option to request.

At a few non Hilton hotels, also with a resort fee, I've had the "included bottled water" replenished, but not full daily service.

I'm not sure about Marriott, don't stay in them often enough now to remember. But I'm pretty sure SPG has had a similar program to Hilton for several years.
What Hilton properties are you staying At? I'm in Doubletrees, Hilton, Hamtons 3-4 days a week and get daily housekeeping.

Sure. Disney is introducing a standard operating procedure seen at many hotels that will not affect a guest unless they opt into it. And if a guest decides to opt in they are rewarded.

Everything is not a slippery slope or conspiracy.
So you have never dealt with efficiency consultants?

What is the purpose of developing SOP? By introducing opt out housekeeping, the goal is not to enhance customer experience, but to cut costs.

Checking out of All Star Movies today. We were here for a class trip and all 5 rooms got a gift card for every night but the first one. This was the same thing each guest was offered. Four nights- $60 card, five nights- $80, and so on. They brought us an extra sack of soap and shampoo, and another stack of towels when I called and asked. We aren't messy and it saved us the trouble of cleaning the room before we left every day

Man, what a horrible cheap company they are ;)

(That was sarcasm, everyone)

You know what's funny?

But who cares? If this affects you it is because you opted into it.

Until deferred housekeeping become so popular that daily housekeeping becomes an upcharged opt in.

Deferred housekeeping will cause more rapid deterioration in room quality.

Oh. You're a slippery slope guy. Got it.

Evidence of this practice being used throughout the industry says otherwise.

I have been receiving extra point for years at both Hilton and Embassy Suites for declining service.
The 3 Waldorf's we frequent halways have daily service, and I've never received a special offer in exchange for declining it.
Homewood Suites does not have daily service, unless you request it.

I've also received several points for declining service at hotels under the Starwood or Marriott umbrella. Starwood has been doing this much longer than Marriott, at least from what I've seen.

I'm surprised people are seeing this as a negative. You don't have to do it, but Disney is finally gettting on board with what most others have been doing for the past decade...or close to it. I know I received points for stays before my child was born..and that's more than 7 years ago.

Then don't leave your room in a tip. Boom, no deterioration in room quality. Mousekeeping don't want to pick up your used underpants anyway.

I thought I'd be okay with this but I just spent a few nights in a suite in Cleveland that didn't have daily housekeeping and I absolutely hated it.

It's ok, some people are a little more high maintenance than others..

(I had to edit and add this..;), just in case people didn't realize it was a joke.)

How? They still have to service a room on checkout day.

If the deferred daily housekeeping becomes permanent, several things "could" happen.
  • Housekeeping staff size could be reduced leaving fewer people to clean the same amount of rooms (reduction in work force/cost savings) in the same amount of allotted time leading to less efficient and less thorough cleaning of the rooms in general.
  • I don't know what housekeeping's daily routine is for cleaning, but I would think a room not cleaned for seven days requires a bit more time to clean than one that has been cleaned every day.slowing down the overall process.
Right now this only affects people who opt in to the program. For some people, especially those on 7, 10 or 14 day stays, this may be a big help with food expenses. If it stays optional, it's probably something we would not use.

Sure all of that "could" happen. We don't know it is happening, or will. Unless someone works for housekeeping at Disney or another hotel/resort and would like to chime in.

Housekeeping is the first step of the preventative/predictive maintenance lifecycle..

Housekeeping identifies maintenance deficiencies that can then be scheduled for repair.

Daily housekeeping yields 365 opportunities per year for deficiencies to be identified, planned and scheduled for repair.

The opportunity to plan and schedule repairs will be reduced to 121 scheduling opportunities for 3 day turnover to 52 opportunities in case of 7 day turnovers.

The delay in identification will result in delayed repair which will lead to decreased satisfsction.

How about we wait for Disney to do the bad thing before we get mad at them for it? In case, ya know, they don't.

How about I start getting mad at Disney for once again looking to Walmart their operations. if I'm staying at a deluxe and paying $400 a night a $20 credit is a joke. On the other end of the spectrum as regards to the values look for them to turn into total crap holes.
