Housekeeping

Of course it becomes "they're cheap and reducing housekeeping". We don't know that for a fact but let's keep making assumptions. But to be fair, if many guests aren't wanting housekeeping, they probably do have to reduce the staffing and how they schedule them. JMO.

I like the idea of a gift card. I'm someone who doesn't really get housekeeping done because I often go solo. If it's longer than a few days, I'll get it but I'm quick to put up the do not disturb sign. I don't need everything changed daily or having someone in the room.
If it's a win/win and people want this, then I don't have a problem with it. We won't take advantage of it, but we aren't frequent travelers like some here.

But do you honestly believe they are doing this so their housekeeping staff can focus on cleaning more intensely?

No to the last part. I personally didn't suggest that, and I don't think that's true at all.

Disney brought a 3rd party company in to REDUCE THE COST of housekeeping this is, Not IMPROVE housekeeping, The 20 buck gift cards will soon disappear as well I give those 90 days max and soon housekeeping outside of the DVC schedule will be an 'upcharge' item just as it is for us DVC members.

Mission 'Sav-a-Buck' Accomplished.

Once again So glad I'm not visiting any longer because things like this were part of my Dystopian nightmares now they are coming true.
And your proof is ????

What?? Most green programs mean hanging up towels if you don't need replacing, and changing sheets every 3 or 4 nights unless otherwise requested-things I am fine with. But no service at all??

Most Timeshares don't get any service at all, so a refresh on day 4 and full service day 7 IS a perk. I don't care when we stay in a timeshare because I can do that stuff my self anyway, and there is more room to spread stuff out, I am not tripping over stuff as I round the bed to pull up a cover.
Now a regular motel room I DO want my bed made and trash taken care of, stuff replenished etc. I am on vacation, staying in a 340SQ room-yes I want it tidy when I come back, because the space is cramped already. But yep-definitely see this as a way to reduce upkeep from daily automatic, to 2x week and PAY if you want more (on top of ridiculous prices already-RESORT fee anyone??)

My experience is the opposite of your first paragraph. Most green programs I've seen do not come in the room daily unless requested.

You know what's funny?
We all saw the news right here on WDWMagic the news item how Disney was bringing in a consultant to update their 'best practices' for housekeeping about a month ago

And now this little gem appears not hard to connect the dots so to speak

Sure. Disney is introducing a standard operating procedure seen at many hotels that will not affect a guest unless they opt into it. And if a guest decides to opt in they are rewarded.

Everything is not a slippery slope or conspiracy.

I'm going to revise this after thinking on it..most
Hilton suite hotels haven't had daily service in years...I don't think they came in my room at all. At other Hilton brands, with a resort fee, I've had the option to decline, as opposed to the option to request.

At a few non Hilton hotels, also with a resort fee, I've had the "included bottled water" replenished, but not full daily service.

I'm not sure about Marriott, don't stay in them often enough now to remember. But I'm pretty sure SPG has had a similar program to Hilton for several years.

If you're staying in a resort hotel, not DVC, where do you take your trash?
We always stay at Pop Century or Art of Animation which has trash cans dotted around. I'm guessing only the values have this, would be weird to find a trash can down one of the Floridian or Polynesian hallways lol

There are trash cans located around all resort properties.
