Here come the mermaids

My only real concern with this is how it's done. POTC is "creepy" now but in a campy sort of way. Depending on how they add the mermaids it could end up more creepy and less campy which could be the death of the attraction. We're probably all reading into it too much and it'll be a barely noticeable thing (especially since they are doing it overnight while the park is closed and it opens the next day) BUT... DS6 already gets a little nervous when he first boards the ride... if the additions are at all scary he may never want to do it again. Things that cross the line from creepy to truly scary haven't done well at WDW in the past (Alien) so I'm hoping they learned from those mistakes.

Interested to see how this gets implemented. There are ways to do it right for sure, hopefully it is relatively subtle. The cave sequence has always been a bit "static" so I could see some value in adding to it there.

The fog projection bothers me more. Never liked the Blackbeard one, and the alternating version they have at Disneyland seems like the best option.

I like where they are adding these. That part of the ride has always been so empty and boring. I never understood why either? I like this idea an cant wait to see it! Does anyone know if this is going to be an extended rehab with the ride closed down for a few moths or something they will be able to do still and keep the ride open?

What I don't understand about it is why would they add something for the fourth one? It kinda sucked IMO... I feel like the new addition may just be a reminder that the series started out strong but kinda ended bad. But who knows, they may make it nice and subtle and kind of cool. We'll just have to see I guess

thats exactly what im afraid of. the adding doesnt bother me, as long as it keeps with the style and look of the ride. even though i'd love for things to stay the way i remember them, i realize kids today might be confused why jack sparrow isnt anywhere on that ride. mermaids might be cool, who knows? but when i WILL start to get angry is if they remove things or update things to suit the films. pirates is one of the best attractions, and theres a reason for that - dont mess around too much with a good thing. psh.

They have removed things already to make room for film references. I used to LOVE the old scene at the end with the pirates raiding the treasure room, with the guards tied up and gagged. Now we see Jack Sparrow sitting in a chair.

Ah yes, I loved that last scene. Was beginning to think it was a figment of my imagination.

This is all just part of Disney's inside joke on guests - to add mermaids to every attraction. Peter Pan, It's A Small World, Philharmagic, Pirates, FLE, etc.

A few years from now, guests won't be looking for Hidden Mickeys; they'll be looking for Hidden Mermaids.

My God I never thought of it but you're right... now you got me trying to think if there are any others...

What if the mermaids called/whispered your name? It was rumored a while back that part of Nextgen might include certain attractions "talking to you", or at least "knowing" your name.
Wouldn't it add a creepy dimension if the mermaids knew one or two people's names and called out to them?
