Guests who Destroy the Magic

Ah, in some cases at Disney World, the parents join in with the bad behavior. I recall being on a Friendship going over to the World Showcase when a family started singing "Rock the Boat." Okay, no harm, just a little fun there.

But then the captain pointed out China and the whole family burst out in sing-song "Ching Chong Chong Chee Cho!" along with a bunch of Bruce Li "Waaa" sounds.

NOT COOL. Way to go parents!

How appalling . It's so unfortunate that people like that are raising their children to continue in their legacies.

Here's something quite un-magical regarding a family who was in line for M:S. A young boy in the family said he needed to use the restroom. Rather than getting out of line to tend to the child's needs, the mother got out a ziploc bag and told him to use that. Thankfully we stopped this, asked them to get out of line, and were nice enough to give them a rider switch so that they wouldn't have to wait again when they got back. But really, who does that?

As far as dive-bombing birds go, go around AA and look for all the round white spots scattered around the ground that happen to be the exact size of a funnel cake. It's amazing how good the birds are at knocking the plates out of people's hands.

And in the corner of the bush was a little boy about maybe 5 or 4 years old with his pants down pooing in the bushes out in the open... and it was excatly far back but right on the corner out in the open.. The mom i assume was trying to find something to wipe his butt!:lookaroun ...I don't understand that...when there is a bathroom not that far away... and people walk by those bushes daily!:hurl:

There in lies the ultimate problem - parents not making children accept responsibility for their actions. A HUGE pet peeve with me. I had an experience in Chuck E. Cheese's one time that made me say enough is enough. There was a group of kids standing on a skee-ball alley, putting balls into the 10,000 point hole - basically cheating the company and I was AMAZED no one was stopping them. I stepped over and told them to get off and that what they were doing was wrong. And who knows where the parents were, because I didn't find any of then. Then I informed the staff what they were doing and to be honest they didn't seem to care that much. So I took my kids who were unbelieving that anyone would consider doing this and left. I'm not saying my kids are angels, because they aren't, but they have respect for other people's property and doing what is fair and right, not only because I've pummeled into their heads, but we lead by EXAMPLE!

I'm with you. Way to go.

I've seen lots of signs posted around the outside eating areas not to feed the birds. People will sit in front of the sign and still feed them. I know it's hard to resist. How often in everyday life does a wild bird or animal come right up to you and act like it wants to be your buddy? I know. My sons beg us to let them feed the critters but we will not relent. It's unhealthy for the animals and there's a sign right in front of you telling you not to do it. I'm not about to teach the kids that it's okay to ignore the rules anywhere. In addition to people getting hurt by the bold birds the swarms of them lead to...uh...bird bombing incidents. My son was the lucky recipient of a lovely 'gift' from above in December. We took pics. I'm glad he had a sense of humor about it. Poor guy. I would have totally freaked. :hurl:

Gives new meaning to the Bible verse "Every good and perfect gift comes from above". :ROFLOL:

I have been thinking about this through out the years of being a Big Disney Fan like many of you, and I do not understand why Guests that come out to the parks physically try to destroy the magic. What I mean by destroying the magic is, putting gum on statues, messing up pieces of artwork during the Flower and Garden show, throwing trash in places other than trash cans, and feeding animals food. There are many times I go out the “World” and I notice these things. Here are a few examples:

n There are those amazing Zodiac topiaries of the animals in China. They were designed with seed, branches, leaves and other things from nature. They look amazing every year they are always designed differently. Well I know sometimes birds may pick off of them or nature works its magic to destroy it that can be fixed. But there was one time I actually saw a father and his son reach over and start picking the seeds off the topiaries. Is this necessary??
n This year there are Mosaic statues in the Dupont pavilion in the back of the World Showcase. There is the beauty Rooster, Key West Cat, and the Fish. Recently someone removed the whiskers from the statue of the Key West Cat, and on the Fish statue some of the tiles were chipped off. Now I’m not saying that a guest removed them but those whiskers were grouted in and would not just fall out.
n Tinkerbell’s Fairy houses, very detailed with pots and pans and other items from nature. Well because of the placement in the kiddy area parts of the details like the little tables and chairs and cups were pulled off or destroyed… is this necessary??
n There are a couple of times I have seen gum placed on the Busts of the Stars (Walt Disney, Opera, Bill Cosby) at DHS, and also the sword in the stone and the Disney Characters by the partner statue at MK.
n Through out all the parks I see people putting trash in bushes, on the ground, through out the ride lines. I don’t understand why people do this… it is a fact that Disney places their trash cans every 100 feet…so there not fair apart why do guests feel necessary to trash the place up. This is also similar to people who just leave all their food on their table at a QSR thinking the Castmember will make it in time to clean their mess, even at a busy time as lunch.
n And finally one of my big pet peeve is guests who think the parks are just one big wild Zoo and try and feed the wildlife through out the parks. For example, when I go to MK all through Frontierland guests are feeding the Storks and White Ibis and other birds …TURKEY LEG MEAT!! It’s Silence of the Lambs!! Or when I went to DAK my girlfriend and I were sitting out by the Flametree BBQ, and there was a family feeding a wild stork French fries!!! Because of the food throwing these animals have come to be accustom with human foods and it changes their natural eatting habit. (Yes I know on disney part, building a theme park on a swamp land already intrupts their natural habit and living area. Yet Disney has worked to fix this with the DWCF please go to disneywildlife.com to find out more info. And also the Walt Disney Wildlife preservation north of WDW its a great place they have help to preserve what we have left in this world!)

Do people do this because of ticket prices and they feel “I paid this much, I should be allowed to do whatever I want!” or its just plan carelessness??

Let me make it clear before I start to get bashed on here, I’m not saying ALL Guests, there are those select few who respect their surroundings, their fellow guests, and the environment. And let me also say, there is some parts that are Disney’s fault in of where they place the statues and the cleaning crew. But, Am I the only one who feels this way, or am I just crazy. Again in advance, I’m sorry if I offended anyone, it was not meant to be like that. AGAIN I’m Sorry…I just it bothers me to see this happens to a place that is suppose to be magical!!

I love your thinking... I go and i see things like kids tearing the paint off the walls in Buzz Lightyear's Space ranger Spin and Garbage Everywhere!!!
It is starting to make me think that people will slowly destroy my favorite place in the whole wide World!!:cry::cry:

:cry:i hope people just learn that Walt Disney put all his cash out on a big plate to build DL & WDW and that he doesn't deserve to be treated like this:cry:

I have not seen many of these things at WDW. It makes me sick and nervous for the children of some of these parents. I have seen way too much garbage, but not much else.

I agree with you about the whole Chuck E. Cheeses thing but so you are aware, they have sensors on the alley and can tell when soemone stands on it. Even if they "win" they won't recieve any tickets for the jackpot!:)

We have seen this as well. Unfortunately this disregard for property transends business, education and society in general. Respect, discipline, class, and manners seem be less prevalent today.

Parents who refuse to leave with their screaming toddlers from shows such as Philharmagic, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, American Adventure, etc. I just don't understand this. It happens all the time. Kid has a temper tantrum, screams at the top of his lungs, mom looks around like "oh I'm sorry", bounces kid up and down, kid continues to scream and hit her through whole show and nobody in their vicinity hears a thing that is said.

I understand this can happen, but after a few seconds if they're not calming down then REMOVE them out of courtesy of everyone in the theatre. I am the one who will turn around and stare at you until you leave. And yes, I am a parent.

I can't even tell you how many times we catch parents having their little boys ______ in the Splash queue. There's apparently something about all those bushes back there that draws them to it. It's sad, because if you ask the CM there, 99% of the time, we'll let you run your little kid to the bathroom and come back in line. That probably wouldn't work on every ride, but because of the way the Splash queue is set up, we can allow you to do that with minimal disruption to the rest of the line. Trust me, we'd much rather have you take your kid to the bathroom just outside the gift shop than to have to smell it for the rest of our rotation. Working at the parks, though, really was a study in human nature for me. You learn a lot about people in a very short time down there. It was especially shocking to me, since my siblings and I were raised to clean up after ourselves and behave like civilized human beings.

Edit: Is p-e-e-i-n-g really a bad word?

My wife and I were on line at Splash Mountain few years back. These 3 teen boys had drinks and taking the paper from the straw wrapper and doing spit balls on the walls.

After watching this I tapped on the ones back and asked him...

" I wonder how you will?"
He asked " how I will what????"
I answered "how you will walk around Disney the rest of the day with a straw stuck up ur A$$???"

These negative actions (besides feeding the birds) are products of our society today. When a person who puts gum on the door at Wal-Mart goes to WDW do you think he/she is going to "magically" stop that behavior when they are at WDW? I walked around all day with gum on my butt due to some moron who was on Soarin' before me. This is not going to change. People are generally self-centered. I run a company with a lot of people under me and 95% of them are irresponsible opportunists. People generally are lazy and want something for nothing. Again, going to WDW is not going to change humanity (if you want to call it that).

As far as feeding the birds, it would not matter if the people stopped feeding them or not--they would still "dive bomb" and beg because there is food all over the place in those areas. Besides, they are already eating all the food that the kids (and adults!) are dropping on the ground. Giving them a few fries is not going to make a difference.

When I was in the Dominican Republic this summer I was talking to an employee there about feeding the peacocks. Apparently, when the resort opened they were very strict about NOT feeding them and they were very aggressive in the outside eating areas. I know this is another country and things are done differently, but anyway, they stopped enforcing the "no feeding" and now the peacocks walk around peacefully and wait for someone to offer the food. No more jumping on the tables or jumping on the guests. I fed the peacocks--they were all so gentle. I realize, it could upset their nutrition balance, etc. But we are talking about a few birds here. This is like not drilling for oil in certain places in the US due to the caribou. I think we should respect our animals but we have to also think about protecting the people in this world. Feeding a few birds at WDW is not going to endanger the population of birds in the world.
