Guardians Tower announcement Saturday in SD ...

Surely that's true of any theme park land whether it be the old Wild West, Hogsmead, Pandora or Mainstreet? In the end of the day they are theme parks and those pesky tourists and souvenirs are going to jar in the best themed lands.

Yes its true, but most don't push this immersion 'bubble' myth so heavily.
Look at the art for Pandora. There's one that shows a parent/child wandering along some sort of dirt path, surrounded by open space, trees, etc. Not too many people, it looks so idyllic.
What does Guardians of the Galaxy have to do with old Hollywood? Even when it becomes something of a larger Marvel presence, what will those attractions have to do with California?

A sad day for an attraction from Disney Park's glory days.

This is all Chapek. He owes his job to Perlmutter (Marvel) and will do whatever he needs to for his appeasement. This is Step 1.

A sad day for an incredibly original concept, created by the Imagineers that pushed the boundaries of ride technology, story telling, attraction environment and sheer size.

Marvel may have a place at the parks, but it sure isn't by slaughtering a Disney Parks original. If Tower isn't safe, nothing is.

We deserve better than this.

Then why did he not say "A TRON coaster is not coming to Walt Disney World" instead of "A TRON coaster is not coming to Epcot" ?

I would go crazy if they built it in Magic Kingdom, it would fit perfectly in Tomorrowland.

And it would help revitalize that stalled area as well as give them the ability to close Space for a while with a nice long refurb.
You're right, it wasn't.

Plane ticket needed then I guess. I'll still hold out hope for some Tomorrowland love at some point. Last time I rode Space I thought I felt like I was going to need to visit a chiropractor after.

What is going to happen to Hollywood Studios' Tower or Terror then? I thought the reason they were re-theming it in California was partly due to an issue with CBS Twilight Zone rights? Won't this also apply to other versions of ToT?

I cannot say that I am 100% against what Disney is trying to do here. I think a lot of the criticism that has been levied thus far has certainly been legitimate and warranted, especially from an artistic and thematic, perspective but I actually am a fan of reducing redundancies between DL and WDW. It makes each of them a little more unique and it certainly makes sense from a business perspective as it forces people on each coast to have to cross the Mississippi River to experience certain attractions.

I've never been to DL, unfortunately, but from what I've read and heard, if we had to pick one of the ToT to save, keeping the one in DHS seems like it would've been the nearly unanimous opinion among those who have experienced both and are not biased towards either of the parks.

Of course, I am not naive enough to think that this announcement permanently saves DHS's ToT. I fully suspect that Sunset Boulevard and ToT will eventually be completely re-worked with a brand new theme. Once (or if) Disney ever gains the ability to fully use its Marvel properties in WDW and if they decide to utilize them in DHS, a renovation of ToT into Stark Tower would not shock me at all. Note: I say this without any knowledge whatsoever. It is nothing but complete speculation by me and me alone.

There is a reason why the newer ToT's dropped (hah!) the fifth dimension scene. Like you say, it is an ineffective (to you) scene that merely detracts. As with movies, or DL into WDW's Pirates, common wisdom is to edit out that which detracts from the pace and story.

There, I fixed that for you ;)

That scene still wow's 36-year-old me as much as it did when 24-year-old me rose it for the very first time.

It's that scene with the elevator moving forward that make it so much more than just a drop in the dark ride.

Anyone else thinking that this looks suspiciously like what will replace the mirror scene?

Now I'm wondering what could possibly replace the hallway...

I'm wondering if there's a chance that they'll combine both of the show-floors to make one giant vertical screen? (I don't know if this is possible or not due to the layout). I'm not sure a single floor is enough to convey a "warehouse" feel otherwise

I think it's safe...for now. DHS is a giant construction site so they couldn't afford to lose one of the handful of rides that are left for 1+ years until SW Land opens. Once that happens, who knows if they will change it to something else. Probably not GoTG if that goes to EPCOT, but we are still talking 3+ years away. Lots can change by then. For once the glacial pace of construction at WDW is working in our benefit;)

This is what I think lots of people are missing about Star Wars land... yeah it looks great in the concept art when the only inhabitants are wearing rags and space outfits, but when it's crammed with hundreds of strollers, people in Disney T-shirts, Brazilian tour groups... you're going to feel a whole lot less like you've been transported to a galaxy far far away than many people right now seem to realise.
Which is why I want them to shoot a TV movie set on the new planet using the theme park land for a location shoot before it opens.

Won't go into this too much as we might be veering off topic - but that has always been the case with concept art (and why people should never take it too literally), I don't think I've ever seen Hogwarts (and its surrounds ever like this!)

That was my first thought too, @Mike S . However, the hallway would allow for added depth, which might improve the perspective.

I would guess the mirror will be used to introduce the storyline, with the Guardians viewed in the existing hallway scene.
