I don't think it's the GOTC IP that has people upset in and of itself. It's the complete laziness of taking a beloved attraction and retheming it to shoehorn in an IP. So much for an original experience. How many people aren't going to think of Maelstrom when riding backwards away from trolls, er, Elsa? Or ToT while "breaking out" on GOTG:MB?

It was one thing to do a retheming on a temporary basis for DL's HM or SM. Now it's permanent.

I can see it now on other attractions:
GOTC: Star Lord's home (HM)
GOTC: Groot's Land (LWTL)
GOTC: Rocket Racoon Safari (KS)
It's a Small GOTC
GOTC: Space Mountain
GOTC Energy Adventure (not far from the truth if rumors are to be believed)

Where does it end?

I totally agree with you, but if they are going to do this GOTC stuff at Epcot, that title I would be happy with. It sure would be a heck of a lot better than the horrible mission breakout and or frozen ever after which still and will always bother me.

When the IP crashes.

I say they have about a decade before Disney makes sure that GotG is the lamest most uncool IP on the planet.

The real question is which will get there first? GotG or Star Wars? With the 43 new Star Wars movies, the 23 Star Wars spin offs, the 12 stand alones, and the 9 TV series coming. I think Star Wars will hit the super saturation point first.

The difference is a new land for SW, Toy Story, or Avatar. Yes, existing areas closed and will be replaced with a new land. Different from shoehorning an IP into an existing atttraction.

So, after they "Millionaire" the IP, stand alone shoehorns will be much easier to replace, and since they killed the macrotheme by the first shoehorning, the second has no limits to what will be used.

Millions. Literally 10s of millions.
Millions upon millions of new guests simply do not know, nor do they care, that these rides were once something else.

This is something that "most" of us Disney "fans" just don't understand or refuse to acknowledge. A large portion of guests that visit Epcot will never know that there was anything in Norway but Frozen cause they don't care, the same will be true for Breakout.

It goes further than just the laziness. It's also the potential destruction of what I think is a nearly flawless ride in ToT. I was more annoyed with the fact that frozen didn't fit in Norway than that Maelstrom was being replaced.

Are you saying future guests? ToT, aside from being copy, is still a fairly popular ride at DCA

There are many reasons to not like IPs everywhere...but come on...People ride Tower of Terror because they LIKE THE RIDE and the theming of course. It's not due to Twilight Zone. So even if you aren't a GOTG fan, if you enjoy the ride, you'll go back on regardless if it is 20 years from now and nobody watches Marvel movies in the future. I sorta doubt that but still.

And I'm not a fan of the change just due to the area but I'm not against GOTG or the ride getting rethemed.

Star Wars has been generating tons of spinoff material for decades now with little signs of fatigue in the base even with the Prequel era. Only difference now is that stuff that would have been relegated to novels and comics in the past is being filmed or animated and that its more then just publishing now.

Guardians of the Galaxy can only go so far on smartass characters and 70s/80s Jams in space. Particularly when Fox still controls a ton of Marvel's cosmic stuff through the Fantastic 4 and X-Men rights. Only so much you can do when you're restricted from using Galactus, Silver Surfer, Skrulls, Shiar, the Brood, and Mojo. If they ever do get X-Men back, a Guardians movie with Mojo as a villain would be fantastic.

We are a acaptive audience. ;)

But the public at large, would they mind? I think not, families show up at Disney's gate nowadays with the dad in a Star Wars shirt with pun that is nowhere near as hip as he thinks and even less flattering to his figure than he fears it is, a daughter in latest princess garb, and a son in superhero outfit. They will be asking what there is to do for their princess, Spiderbrat and Peter Pan-syndrome dad. Would they even understand how somebody could possibly prefer the 1930s dust covered art deco ruin over the latest flashy Marvel Universe ride?
The people need to be protected from themselves. Disney was company a company that created aspirational products, now its a WALMARTED product for the lowest common denominator.

I increasingly worry whether I belong as a guest at WDW anymore.

I hope they retheme the one in Hollywood studios also.

I love tower of terror but its getting a bit tired and dated.

You want this showing up on Sunset Boulevard?
