It'll definitely be used. I'd honestly expect a third gate by the end of next decade.

The next logical step though was fixing tomorrowland and continuing to build out DCA. The latter is happening, not exactly how people want, and the former was happening until the plans... you know what.

WDW took the too many gates too quickly route, now it's left with a bunch of parks in various states of decay and the wonderful animal kingdom that's still under built.
In all honesty, I can't speak in definite terms on what the long term future of the company looks like. But if Iger's successor is anything like he is, than I can assure you that things won't change and a third gate is even further off. In terms of Tomorrowland, I agree that it should've come first. It's obvious why Disney wanted Star Wars/Marvel in the parks asap, but they still could've done over Tomorrowlan for 60th and still meet the demand for geek properties through building a third gate by 2020/2021. In short, if Disney was a more long term focused company like they used to be, then everything we could think of and thensome would be either completed or on its way.

I think they missed the boat for that 3rd gate. It should have been Star Wars. That would have taken the crowd pressure off an already over crowded DL and they would have had room to grow the SW concept.

If they can't fix what they do have what makes you think they can handle a third gate?

No one said they can't fix things. DCA definitely supports their ability to fix things. DLR is far superior ending this decade than it started. I know there is a fixation around the basis of ideas, but yes DLR is heading in a good direction.

The only outstanding item is Tomorrowland and it deserves more than a coat of paint. I'm willing to wait for the bigger plans to coallesce.

Sounds like a missed opportunity. Why not have a land like that, with a Cars ride or two? I don't think the Cars IP will still be popular 25 years from now, so I do think the land currently runs a huge risk of becoming outdated relatively quickly.

Cars is an incredibly popular franchise and the kids that saw it 10 years ago will be sharing it with their kids 10-20 years from now. Peter Pan, Snow White, Mr. Toad, Pinocchio, Alice...all franchises that are very, very old but still popular with old and young. Not that Cars is on the same level as Star Wars but SW remained very popular during the period it was pretty much out of the public eye (beyond books and comics) and continues to be one of the biggest (if not biggest) franchises out there.

Agreed. That's why I said it probably will never be used if Disney continues down the path they're on right now.

I hate to say this, but when you look at this building among the surrounding area it takes DCA a step away from being a theme-park towards being an amusement park.
Silly Symphony Swings, Goofy's Sky School, Screamin...all of those things already made DCA look more like an amusement park. That was one of the big knocks from day one.

I don't believe that's what Fractal meant. Maybe I'm wrong, but I took it as Tower now being out of theme with the land. Amusement parks don't have themes, they are hodgepodges of different attractions with multiple ideas going on.

@fractal Is that what you meant, or did you mean something else?

I think it certainly undoes some of what they've recently done to improve the park...that's pretty much been the biggest complaint many of us have had from day one, it doesn't remotely fit the theme no matter how hard Disney tries to shoehorn the story into a CA theme.

True, true. That's why I was hoping they would just bulldoze that entire area and start from scratch, but alas... Oh well.

Exactly what I meant. The Paradise Pier area has "amusement park" type rides but that area, whether you like it or not, is themed to be a early 20th century park. With the new GotG tower, I'm walking down "old Hollywood streets" listening to music from that era but the skyline is dominated by this monstrosity. It reminded me of a Great Adventure type park.

Indeed. I know a lot of people hate Paradise Pier, but at least everything is cohesive and consistent there.

"Monstrosity" is a good word to use. The juxtaposition will be so painfully obvious. Leaves you wondering how exactly this got a pass in the meetings. It just doesn't make sense.

I don’t think it’s an either/or proposition, though. Just because a Stars Wars area is going into Disneyland, there’s nothing preventing Disney from putting a substantial Stars Wars presence into a hypothetical future 3rd Gate.

Sure, anything is possible. It just seems a little far-fetched to me. Not to mention disjointed having it in more than one park.

That would be like having a Harry Potter land in two sister parks.

So when GOTG:MB opens in May will it be located in Hollywoodland on the park map or Future Marvel Land / Super Hero City?

Can they call it Marvel Land on the west coast? Still confused about that.
