Girl’s Cruise on the Disney Wonder! January 4th-8th Tons of Pictures!

Girl’s cruise!!:sohappy:

Who: Me, my mom, my sister-in-law, and my friend from CA

When: January 4th-8th

Why: I got a great deal on the cruise, and my family couldn’t go. Airfare was cheap, so I decided to invite just the girls to get away for a few days.

I’ll start off the report with a thank you to all the husbands who parented (it’s not babysitting when it’s your kids, it’s parenting:D) while we were away. Our hubbies did start calling it the “Suckas cruise” because they were sure they were “suckas!!” for staying home while we sailed off to paradise.

Okay little background – I’ve been on three Disney cruises now. A 7 night, a 5 night, and now a 4 night. We’ve got another 7 nighter scheduled in May!! I’m becoming addicted to cruising. I will never want to stop going to the parks, but cruises are such a wonderful vacation. Disney cruises can cost a little more, but they are worth every penny. Disney knows how to do it right.

Day 1 – January 3rd – Travel Day
This morning I woke up at 7 and headed out the door at 8:15. I flew out of Providence with snow everywhere. I left my coat in the car (no need for it in FL!!) and made the FREEZING walk from the parking garage to the airport. Flight was on time, I settled in for a long day of flights. I flew to Dulles, where I sat for three hours and then Orlando where I met my sil, the first to arrive.

After I got my bags, we went to get our rental car from Budget. The rental agent was insistent that we needed to upgrade our car to an SUV to fit four women and all their luggage. I decided to risk it, and we all ended up fitting quite nicely in the Chevy Impala.

My mom flew in at 6:30 pm, my CA friend was delayed until 9:30, so we drove off in search off an Outback. We came across a Ruby Tuesday’s first, so we ate there. Then we headed back to the airport, filled up the car and headed for Port Canaveral!

We usually stay at the Radisson. They have a great pool, free shuttle, huge Jacuzzi tubs in their suites and free parking. This time I decided to try another one for experience’s sake. I’ve read great things about the Residence Inn and we tried that. It was very nice. It’s all suites (at the Radisson the suites are a little more), the pool looked nice although we didn’t try it, and it included a great hot breakfast. The shuttle isn’t free but we didn’t need it anyway. Parking for the length of the cruise is free there also.
It was late so we just repacked a little and went to sleep. It was dark so I don’t have any pictures. The pictures start tomorrow!!

Ahhhh great memories!!! We went on a Disney Cruise last april 08 on the Wonder...Oh so gorgeous....We were not so lucky to be able to go to Castaway Cay, the Captain tried a numerous amount of times , to the point it seemed so close yet so far... But it was just to windy ...So your pics there....are Depressing!!! But brings back so many great memories...It truly is a beautiful ship.... On the ship even though it was school vacation it did'nt seem crazy with kids at Disney World (we did the land and sea thing 4 nites on ship and the rest of the week at our DVC) Oh my god, I was taking pics of the crowds to make sure I look back and say never again in April, (yes we should have known) We what a great time..Our girls who are 8 and 5 had a great time.. To see their faces as we got closer to the Disney terminal and you see the ship in the distance ....Priceless I'm glad I got it all on video and pics!!!!

By the way your pics......OH MY GOD ....Beautiful!!! We had issues with ours , not bad but nowhere near your.....Which we ended up buying a new one when we got home ....For the next trip to "The World"!!

Thanks Dixiegirl!! :) I do feel your pain. We couldn't make it into Castaway Cay on our first cruise and we were so so sad.

In September we were supposed to go twice but only made it once.

Now that I've been and seen how amazing it is, I don't ever want to miss it again! I hope you get another chance too!!

So I've finally had a chance to read through your report, Tammy, and let me just say WOW! Fantastic report and stunning photos! I could feel the relaxation and excitement as I read it.

You've got me really itching to get on that cruise. Your pictures made me feel like I was there. And like Jenn, the character pictures have me ready to book... I think I counted three different Daisy's! I'm very proud of you for taking time out to stalk :sohappy:.

Thanks Holly!

I knew you and Jenn would love all those characters!! Believe me, there were many more that we didn't take the time to go see, and a few that I don't have pictures because I didn't take them on my camera. Ya'll would love it!!:)

Tammy -

Great report and fantastic pictures! We went own our first Disney cruise on the Wonder (also our first cruise ever!) in August - and I am so ready for another one. I have plans in place for late September for my husband's 50th (without DD and DS!) My husband is a school teacher - so he is hesitant about taking days off with school only starting three weeks earlier. My "you only live once" is starting to wear him down! Now I'll show him your pictures as a reminder of the great time we had!

Thanks again for sharing!

We always cruise on the Magic b/c my dad likes the 7-day itineraries. ("Three days isn't enough time to relax!") But I might do a 4 day this Spring just to see the Toy Story show. And I really want to see the terminal in Port Canaveral again. Last year, we sailed out of LA and the year before, we sailed out of Barcelona. So no beautiful terminal and no Castaway Cay!! Gotta get back. . .

I've never been on a cruise of any kind, and really thought I'd never be interested in one, but now....hmmm.....

It would be so hard to go on a Disney cruise that wasn't going to Castaway Cay!! Not that I wouldn't enjoy every second of it of course:lol:, but now that we've experienced it I would miss it!!

I wonder if Disney bases a new boat in CA (or moves an old one there) if they'll try to find something comparable on the West coast?

When we went on the 5 night in the Fall I was worried, it would be to short. I was also worried about the 4 night, but it was great!! We had plenty of time to relax and settle in!

Tammy...just got the chance to read this...it sounds like you all had a wonderful time. I wish I had the money to take a Disney cruise right now, but alas, that is not the case at the particular moment. I will go on a Disney cruise in my life though...I've loved cruising. It's such a cool way to see a bit of the world. :)

And wow...your pics are so phenominal! I actually really like the portrait ones of your family (And that's a huge compliment as I see portraits all the time in my line of work). You did a fantastic job on those. And the rest of the pics look superb as well!!

Thanks so much Nibbles!! That means a lot coming from you. :)

I think everyone should try a Disney cruise once in their life. They're expensive to be sure. When you look at how much you're getting and how much is included, it really does help even it out though!

You're right it's a great way to see the world. You see so many different places on one trip!! My sister moved to Hawaii in October and I really want to do an inter-island cruise there. I figure it's a great way to see a bunch of islands without paying for all the island hopping!!

Well it's included in what we payed for the cruise anyway.
