Yup,
everything is decorated. I've never seen so many people flying our flag. To be honest: I've never seen that many flags since being in the USA shortly after 9/11.
One of the major roads I'm driving on to work also leads to our stadium and over a stretch of about 4K/2.5mls there are FIFA-flags every 50 meters on both sides of the street. We have public viewing areas with jumbo-screens at several locations all over town.

Cool! I've seen some of those on TV. They are really nice! But I have another question: when the World Cup is not in Germany, do you still have all these decorations and German flags?

That's a good question:
You know, with our history many people still are a bit reluctant to display patriotism too openly as the border between patriotism and nationalism can be a very thin line. Of course my generation (I was born 63) and even my parents' generation (Born '42 and '45) don't carry any responsibility for the atrocities that happened '33-'45, but nevertheless it's part of our history. If I want to be proud of Goethe, Beethoven, Roentgen, Daimler, Benz, etc. I also have to be ashamed of what Hitler & his cronies did.
With the reunification, our involvement in former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, with our leading role in the European Union (Together with France and the UK) a lot of pride came back and so I think we deserve the right to be proud again and to fly our flag.
And I also think that the outcome of the WorldCup will play a major role to display our flag. The win in 1990 gave our country a huge boost and so everybody hopes for the same this time.

I hope this post doesn't violate the 'no politics'-rule. It is in no way intended to start a discussion, it's just an explanation.

Cool answer, DisneyCruiser! I think you guys have all the right to be patriotic, as everyone should, indeed. (well, except for me.. but I am a freak! ) Every country should be supported by its people, otherwise it just doesn't work... What bothers me here in Brazil is that they only display patriotism during the World Cups. They have many other things to be proud (and ashamed) of, and nobody seems to care... but when it's World Cup time, people become hysterical... By the way, some decorations here have your flag. It's a nice one, I think.

Disneytati,
I just bought a Black, Red & Gold-backpack to wear during this year's WDW-trip proudly displaying our colours. We also bought a ton of WorldCup2006-garments as gifts for our American friends. For our last Disney-cruise I gave a friend a Germany-Jersey, which lead to a funny situation: That friend was leaning against a railing on the upper deck enjoying a smoke when he was approached by someone addressing him in German, because that person thought hew as German, too. Unfortunately that German didn't speak much English, but somehow they managed to start a conversation.

Back to topic:
Today England will play Paraguay here in Frankfurt. 40,000 English fans are expeted to come, but only 15,000 hold tickets. The rest has to watch at public viewing areas or in sports bars. German and British police are patroling the streets together to prevent violence.

My son was so upset that Poland lost yesterday. My wife has some Polish blood in her, so my son does as well. I told him that if he's going to get as upset as he did yesterday every time a team he likes loses, then he's not watching the rest of the matches. I don't want him growing up with a complex...

Edit: Now if you'll excuse me, off to watch the second half of England v Paraguay

 That must have been funny! Such things have happened to me a few times, as I like to display the American Flag, so when I talk to people at WDW they ask me where i am from, and I go: "Guess!" I've heard Florida, New York, Canada.... but nobody could tell I am not originaly from the US!

Ok, now back to the World Cup: black, red and gold is such a beautiful combination of colors, I think it will call great attention! I've taken a few pictures of home nd street decorations around here, I'll try to post them today.

And I am curious: "Do people in your countries normally decorate their houses for the World Cup?"

Not in this country. Actually, if I want to find a good crowd that's watching the World Cup, I have to go to an English Pub I know in Orlando. I'm going to try to get in there for the finals, definitely, and possible for some of the other matches, especially in the elimination rounds.

Here, everyone forms "groups" to watch all the games, specially Brazil's games. There are people who plan their vacations for the Wolrd Cup time, so that they can stay home and watch ALL the games.

WHAT A MATCH!!! Trinidad & Tobago just played Sweden to a Draw... and I almost picked a draw this morning when I was reviewing things!!! AARRGGHH!!!

Seriously though, that was really one of the best matches I have had the pleasure to watch, and neither team was one that I would normally root for over the other.
