Thank you Corrus for making you opinion quite clear. However, since this is a thread for those of us who do enjoy the sport it might be more polite for you to refrain from any additional comment on this subject.
Excuse me??

This thread is for everyone...

1st. This is a public forum..
2nd. if you don't agree with me report me...

I don't like Soccer... but it seems that is forbidden to say...

I won't post in this thread anymore, but NOT because you say so...

You don't make the rules around here...

Sorry for not being a soccer fan...

I humbly apologize for calling it a STUPID game.. (although it is)
In what game has the most violent audience??? Soccer!

But I'll stop my negative waves... So you'll be happy too...

Corrus,

I never said you weren't allowed to post here. You can say anything you want to here or on any other thread you would like. What is or is not allow is at Steve's discretion alone.

I mearly pointed out that I felt it was very rude of you to come in here and begin insulting something that, clearly, most of the other posters in the thread enjoy.

Even wordse I really mean it...
20 people running like idiots on a field, trying to get a round ball in some net between 2 poles... and once they try to kick it in some other idiot, called a keeper, stands in front of the net and catches that ball... after that the "keeper" kicks that ball out of his way again... and the whole thing starts over again... So far for Fun!!! :lookaroun :lookaroun :lookaroun

That would be 22 "idiots". There are 11 on each team. Then there are 3 officials on the pitch. Do they count towards the idiot total? :p

Dear Ogryn... :) IMO you know what I mean
I know there are more in the teams, there are 20 field players running around... but the goal keeper don''t really run around...
And the officials have to be there, or else it would turn into a mess...

The problem I have with soccer is the whole hype and that alot of the so called turn into extreme fanatics once someone from another club scores...

Yep! I've seen it, and not only on TV but with my own eyes as well...
a lot of "fans" of the loser go berzerk after the game... Riots etc. etc...

but but never mind me... The post was meant as a joke at first, but the comments which came from a real soccer, didn't get is...
Which means that I was right... never say to a soccer fan that it's a stupid game, not even in a joke, don't say anything about his club...

And again... TV reporters often say Soccer is War... and indeed they're right...

Below a picture... which proves that Soccer brings out the worst in people...

rudeboy.jpg

And yet they say Soccer is a great sport... hoping your children don't grow up like this boy...

But as I promised to stay out of this, I will next time... :D

And you're opinion would be right ;) I'm just joshing with ya'.

It is the national sport and all that. Tally Ho Pip Pip.

Not all football supporters are that bad. Like anything that is extremely popular, you'll get good and bad. Football has unfortunately attracted the wrong sort of people in the past, usually tanked up on beer. I realise my country's supporters have been involved in rioting at previous competitions, and it is something that most of the population are ashamed of. In a lot of cases, it is organised gangs, going out for a fight, and using football as an excuse or as cover.

This (and the last couple of tournaments), known trouble makers have had their passports taken off them for the duration of the tournaments. Not just a few. Over Three Thousand. IIRC, because of these actions, in Japan/Korea 2002, we had some of the best travelling supporters of the competition (distance may have also played a part in that).

As for some of the Eastern European countries, well they seem to be where we were 15 years ago. Racism and violence appears to be common, but their attitudes can be changed. It just takes time.

What the heck? I don't know much about soccer, but I'm in!

Good luck to all!

You are probably at a great advantage. I was just trying to decide if I thought the US was capable of exploiting the Czech Republic's injuries. Its thought processes like this that invariably mess up fans who know a lot about any sports.

Every year in our NCAA pool, there is one guy who knows an order of magnitude more about college hoops than everyone else and he's always at the bottom of the pool. He really overthinks it. I already filled out the first round based without much thought based on my gut, but now I'm considering changing half of my choices, which is hard to resist even though I know its probably a terrible idea.

That happens all the time here in Brazil too! People actually kill each other because of a soccer game. Now THAT is stupid.

Well, I understood your post as a joke, Corrus. But I think I found it funny because I don't like soccer. It's like someone coming here joking about WDW being "stupid" or something, I think that we would all get ed at the joke. But... well... I agree with you about soccer!!!!

I assume you are talking about me here Corrus. If that is the case please allow me to point out that I never showed any anger towards you, never insulted nor threatened you in any way. If you don't care for the sport, that is your perogative. There are many sports that I do not enjoy so I don't pay any attention to them.

My point was, and still is, that I find it very rude of you to come in to this thread and repeatedly insult the sport (and by extention it's fans). I can't fathom what positive you see coming from such behavior nor why you feel compelled to continue acting in this way.

As for the behavior of some of the fans of the sport, there is no excuse for it. But this sort of thing happens around sports of all types in almost every country in the world. How many major titles have sparked riots in the US? Here in Denver somone was shot to death for sporting the jersey of the Broncos opponents after the Broncos has just won the Super Bowl. We have had rioting in the streets after both of the Avalanches Stanley Cup wins, riots in Boulder after a number of CU Buffalo football games. Sports bring out the worst in some people, which is truly unfortunate as it also brings out the best in the majority of participants and fans.

As for the picture, I feel that it is much more a statement on the parenting skills (or lack therefore) of that boy than an indictment of the sport as a whole.

Wow it all kicked off since I last posted wow!!! I love football, it's a way of life for me, watch it all the time, go as often as i can.

The picture Corrus has was of a little Dutch boy so am not too insulted by it lol, it's not all like that you know. I have a lot of friends who dont like football and i am a football geek, hell i even head over to the MLS website just to watch the highlights, Brian Ching was brilliant in week 1, so i have no-one to tell my pointless facts to over the years hence my interest in commentary or journalism in the sport.

It was nice to get a "soccer" thread going on here, i just hope it doesnt get tooooo heated when someone comes on here and says they dont like it, fair play to them, their opinion, just dont get riled up about it.

We can all live together lol

Nath!

Edit: Sorry, who's in on the ESPN thing and is anyone interested in doing the fantasy football/soccer?

Well Brian Ching was brilliant in week one but unfortunately he was brilliant at my side's expense. So that was a very painful game for me to watch.

The only consolation I have is that he know has the opportunity to recreate that form for the USA in Germany! We really have to win our group to avoid Brazil. Otherwise it is going to be a short cup for us.

Right guys ive mucked up my ESPN pick'em thing. The Stitch_kingdom is going to be inactive as i had to start again because i signed in and it told me to pick a new name etc and stitch_kingdom still exists. So the Stitch_Kingdom mwah ha ha is the real me and thats the one im gonna use, just ignore the other one.

Sorry for the confusion guys.
