Frozen

We just got back. Absolutely incredible. It's a full blown broadway style musical in that the songs advance the plot. Most songs are really good and a couple are as good as anything that I've heard in 20 years. They aren't really hummable, so if you are expecting pop style hooks (like Lion King) you may be disappointed. Let it go is the closest. What I really liked was that the plot was well paced and didn't feel at all forced. It was also unpredictable in places and you should avoid spoilers is you can. Who knew that Kristen Bell could keep up with I.M? At the end, over the credits, about 15 little kids were up front dancing to the music. I haven't seen that in awhile. A grandpa was singing Let It Go to his grand daughter as they left the theater. Disney hit this one out of the park.

This sounds quite encouraging.
Interested to hear more views from everyone...so keep the opinions coming once you have seen the movie.

A heads up for those interested in collecting merchandise related to the film:
JC Penny has a nice series of dolls, plush, figures, and children's clothing now out in stores related to 'Frozen'.
My local just put out a huge display, with a 10 foot tall Olaf snowman plush for $300 as the centerpiece.
The smaller plush is excellent quality...think Disney Store, but better...particularly for Sven the reindeer ( only $12-15 and he is large in size! )

I noticed the display and made it a point to look over the offerings and was actually a little impressed by the quality.
Thought i would pass along the info to those who may be looking for such things.

Agreed on Olaf! I really didn't like that early teaser (released over the summer). In the movie though he is used perfectly. He steals scenes but not in an annoying manner. He doesn't really appear until halfway through the movie, and when he does remains clearly a supporting character. No worries on it ever being his movie. It's really about the sisters.

This is also very encouraging to me, as the pre-release marketing casts Olaf as a incredibly annoying 'comic relief' character.
A real turn off for me and he is part of the reason i am hesitant about making any effort to go and see this.
Up until now it has not sparked any desire to do so.

The marketing really smacked too heavily of a 'Tangled' clone in my mind...another turn off for me personally....and Olaf just pushed it over the edge.
I have had little interest in this film based on what i have seen pre-release.

I am open to changing that opinion, but await further insights.

Hearing this however is indeed encouraging.

Keep Moving Forward
That first teaser with Olaf and the reindeer had me cringing, it was awful! Now I'm completely turned around and can't wait to see Frozen. I've been watching some of the interviews and found this tidbit interesting. Then the song Let it Go was turned in it was so good that they had to rewrite the movie to "earn the song".

I'm also reading the movie is worth seeing in 3D (which we won't be doing my DD can't see 3D movies because of her lazy eye) but I read a few review where the reviewers had seen it in 3D and regular and said the 3D was worth the extra money.

Just saw it. Absolutely FANTASTIC. It was the best Disney movie I have seen in awhile. The songs were great, and left me inspired, while the visuals were amazing. Disney has found a new forte. The views of a snow covered Norwegian kingdom were breathtaking. The writing was also superb, as they kept the viewer engaged, thoughtful, and anxious on the edge of the seat. Olaf came off as a sincere character, even more so than the similar sidekick Lumiere. The whole film we were left guessing, unknowing how the story would unfold. Meanwhile, the short beforehand was exhilirating, combing animation styles to honor the company's core values. Overall, I say you should go see the movie. Disney Animation is back and we are in a "Revival" of sorts. Here's hoping the coming years can bring more thoughtful memories to viewers. But for now, Let It Go and go get Frozen! ;)

Would we all agree this one is better than tangled? Cause thats what I felt after leaving the theater. I love tangled, but couldn't feel that it was missing something. I think that something is the music and score this film has.

I really liked Tangled, but Frozen is a far better film. Fewer pop references and a plot that takes a few risks.........all of which pay off. And the music. Is it as good as the Ashman / Menken scores? No, but they were among the best ever. The music is exceptional. It isn't Pop, but it is very fun, and drives the story in a way that you rarely see anymore. I know that some critics are not impressed but I have read some of those reviews and I feel like they saw a different movie. My 20 year old son and I are going to see it again this weekend in 3D. If this isn't the hit of the fall then something is really wrong with how Disney marketed the film. I mean............ Wow.

My recollection is that the trailers for Tangled were also pretty abysmal, so I held out hope against hope for this movie that they wouldn't go the way of Dreamworks. No worries. Absolutely amazing.

And Let it Go on the soundtrack just gets better with repeat listenings. Listening to the instrumental version is powerful; adding the vocal is superb! Never heard of that chick before, but she's about as good as Lea Salonga (Jasmine/Mulan)

Buy the 2 disc soundtrack too, the amount of deleted songs are staggering and they are all pretty dang good. I want bobby and Kristen to continue their relationship with Disney after this film.

I bought the two disc set as well. It's really good and makes me appreciate the music even more. I played it yesterday at the office and people were going on line and getting tickets. Lol

One Little Spark...
I saw it this afternoon. It was pretty good. Glad I decided not to skip it in the theaters.

The effects (especially the rendering of snow...WOW!) were fantastic. It had it's spectacular moments.

The story got off to a sluggish start (in my view) because you don't really find out who the villian is until well into the movie (no spoilers), so I found myself about halfway through having trouble connecting with the main characters.

I think they could have gone a bit further with the angst the queen feels. Her character as a whole (outside of the beginning) felt rather flat. Well acted, beautifully illustrated...they just didn't do as much with the character as I felt they could have.

Emma on the other hand was excellently portrayed, and you find yourself cheering for her throughout the film. Likewise, Cristof was a perfect companion for a movie that is essentially hers. The Reindeer was extremely well handled. I thought the character was going to be much different based on the previews.

But, the heart of the movie certainly Olaf. Hands down a great character, and fits with the story (not just as comic relief).

The villain was decent. The reveal was excellent, and genuinely surprising.

The music was pretty good, but it's not Beauty and the Beast or even Mulan. I'd rank it up there with Pocahontas (perhaps a bit better). The opening music is epic. Certainly something I'd listen to again. There were a few songs that I wish had more emotion.

And, while the songs did go along with the plot, and were well performed, I feel like there could have been more of them. If felt like a great script that they slapped some songs into, rather than a script developed around amazing songs (no villain song?).

All that being said, it made me laugh, it made me sniffle, and I walked out with a smile. Worth seeing!
