Frozen

In some aspects I agree, but with some of his other points eh not so much, overall they seemed like they liked it. I do agree what he is saying though, that this is the reboot disney needs for the rest of their animated canon, this is the little mermaid, before the blowout classic beauty and the beast. I personally can't wait for the next film coming, however what worries me is that WDAS hasn't announced their next musical fairytale. We have zootopia which really doesn't interest me at all, and big hero 6 which I am very worried about.

Well, assuming nothing changes in the production schedule, Giants and Moana follow Zootopia, with the former probably being a fairytale. Whether or not it's a musical remains to be seen.

Zootopia sounds kind of interesting. I'm eager to see Disney return to films starring anthropomorphic animals (of course I'd be even more eager if Zootopia were being animated in 2D, a la Robin Hood)...

Giants was never officially announced, and Moana is for 2018 and between now and then it could never even happen it was also never officially announced.

Well, I think it's got a better chance of getting made than King of the Elves. A Disney animated adaptation of a story by Philip K. Dick, a writer who wrote high concept stuff about drugs and perception and sometimes straight up Jesus happens man because though we think it's the 20th Century it's still actually 50 A.D.? Yeah, there's no way that's ever gonna make it to theaters.

Brother Bear and also Treasure Planet. In many adaptations, when Jim lets Jon Silver go, I think, "Jim, you're a shmuck." But in TP it was justified. While something of a crook, he had a code. In most versions, Silver is in charge because he's the nastiest; his redeeming quality is that he likes Jim. In Treasure Planet, it seems like they worked their way back from that good point, thus making him a pirate who's just barely keeping a bloodthirsty band in check with his wits and the promise of loot. He reminded me very much of Captain Cold from the Flash comics, particularly the 2000s era and onward, and that's a good thing.

I really enjoyed 'Treasure Planet'.
Not sure why it was considered a 'flop' by some measuring sticks, but i loved the visuals and interesting sci-fi twists to the story.
A solid picture, i thought, with a great John Newton Howard score and some breathtaking visuals.

It is a real shame that it was not released just a year later...when the whole world went 'pirate crazy' in the wake of the first POTC film's release.
I have always felt that if it had been released AFTER that film, it would have done much better at the box office and had been in the public's eye.

Completely agree. I hated that Treasure Planet was a "flop." Can you imagine what they could've done in the parks?

That's one film that I can't wait for my son to be old enough to enjoy.

Agree about Treasure Planet. Very good movie, absolutely beautiful. Loved the new take on Long John Silver. Damn shame it flopped at the box office. It's Disney's Iron Giant IMO.

Well, hopefully, those of us that love it will tell others, those people will buy the DVDs and get converted, then tell more people, and it'll turn into a classic, like Sleeping Beauty or Alice in Wonderland (two other Disney films that weren't immediately beloved when they initially debuted.)

Indeed.
That is the magic of 'home video releases'....or i guess in today's world, 'internet access'.

I do hope more animation fans check out 'Treasure Planet'. It had a very mature sub-plot involving Jim's relationship with his father.
Well, lack of relationship actually.
I guess us fans of the film can at least feel good knowing it was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2002 Academy Awards.
Wish it won...

Silver is a wonderful piece of work.
Wonderfully animated by Glen Keane and brilliantly voiced by Brian Murray.
A real personality...i would totally stand in line for a M&G with that character!

Dr. Doppler is also a piece of work...some amazing character animation there.
Watch his reactions to things in scenes when he is with other characters.
Hilarious and completely in character.

Captain Amelia ( Emma Thompson ) is also a big fave. Love her sassiness.
Some interesting and unique character designs abound in this film, and she is just one of them.
Scroop, Oxy and Moron, and Hands are all just cool looking.

Apologies...i am getting off topic.
This is a thread about 'Frozen'.

Folks i work with keep telling me i need to go and see it.
They assume since i am a 'Disney freak' it is high on my list.
Still hesitant, but i am slightly more interested then i was last month.
The pre-release trailers really alienated me....but the fan feedback has painted a brighter picture.

Let me encourage you to go see it. And to do it soon.

I truly loved it. Don't let the early trailers stop you from seeing a wonderful film.

Based on the trailer I'm sure your talking about (the one with Olaf and Sven) I thought for sure I'd be disappointed. I wasn't.

And I don't think you will be either.

Thanks Dr. Jones.
Hard to turn down a recommendation from a world famous archeologist such as yourself.

Perhaps i shall take a chance and have a peek.

And if YOU like it, I'll go see it. Deal?
I feel so powerful….

But seriously, I think you'll enjoy it. Nothing like the initial advertising at all. I smiled through the whole thing(which is not normal for me…) As did my wife and her 2 sisters.

Love to hear what you both think of it if you end up seeing it.

And if you don't like it then we'll blame someone else….maybe Belloq….

I've seen it twice, the second time in 3D just today (as a bonus, it was snowing as I left the theater). It takes a heckuva film to get me in there twice. The last time was Episode I- we were still in denial, and we had heard there was credits business we missed the first time. Imagine our dismay to sit through that again and the credits to just hear Vader breath once. Ack.

Anyway, it is absolutely GORGEOUS in 3D.

I don't do 3D myself, just messes with me, but that doesn't surprise me at all.

And I plan on seeing it again as well. My wife who is nowhere near the movie fan that I am told me as soon as we left that we'd be watching that one in theaters again.
so, the general consensus is "Indy approved, should watch" ?
You guys have got to stop…all this power is going to go to my head.

Frozen was #1 at the box office this weekend and the soundtrack is climbing the charts

From Entertainment Weekly

The first weekend in December is a notoriously weak one at the box office, and, true to form, most movies faced harsh declines this weekend after the record-breaking Thanksgiving frame. But Disney’s animated musical Frozen managed to score a not-so-severe 53 percent fall to $31.6 million this weekend, which sent it past Catching Fire and straight into the No. 1 spot on the chart.

Frozen has earned $134.3 million after 12 days in wide release, 39 percent more than 2010′s Tangled, which had earned $96.6 million at the same point in its run. The film will match its $150 million budget by this time next week, and if it maintains its current pace (which seems likely given its “A+” CinemaScore), Frozen could be headed for a finish of about $280 million. The film’s box office success is sending its soundtrack into the upper echelons of the music charts. The soundtrack debuted at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 last week, and it’s risen all the way to No. 4 on the iTunes chart as well.

I don't usually either, but I made an exception in this case. Likewise, if they ever rerelease Treasure Planet or Atlantis: The Lost Empire or Hercules in 3D, I'd definitely catch those.
Treasure Planet and Atlantis would look pretty spectacular. But I think we have a better chance of Horizons being built again then either of those getting a rerelease…
