one other thing sweet pea, do u remember me jokingly asking to join your girls cruise?

well i im sad to say i have to cancel now

going on the disney dream lol

LOL! You're beating us to it! We don't sail until September 2013! Yay for fellow Dreamers, tho. You've got the creme de la creme for sure. I'm jealous. The holiday cruises are supposed to be awesome and you'll see Castaway Cay all decked out, too. Ugh! I'm hoping when the 2014 holiday cruises open to booking I can throw a "dummy" booking at it and not be sick over the price. I really do want to sail during the holidays to see all the decorations. Plus, I think it'd be awesome to be able to tell everyone we can't come visit because we'll be out of the country. Ha! When I think about it, tho, it's kinda startling to think we'd have to book our oldest son as an adult and our youngest as 17 yrs old. Yikes!

over at the other disney site there was a mention of a dummy cruise..please explain for this dummy?

If you book a future cruise while on a Disney cruise you get 10% off the cruise fare (that's before the taxes and port fees) plus only have to pay a 10% deposit vs. the usual 20%. Also, Disney offers great onboard credits to guests booking future cruises while onboard. In order to secure the offer even tho you may not want to tie up a larger sum for the deposit or commit to a specific sailing date you book a "dummy" or "placeholder" cruise for whatever random date you can find in the future that is the lowest price possible. In the past we've asked the future bookings rep to find us a "placeholder" and they know what you're looking for. Booking a "dummy" keeps the deposit super low but secures the offer. Then, sometime before the paid-in-full date for the "dummy" you move the booking to whatever itinerary you decide to go on. If there's a difference in price you'll pay that difference in deposit or get a refund. You still get to keep the 10% discount PLUS the onboard credit incentive. The onboard booking offer can't be combined with other discounts but if you happen to want to cruise an itinerary there aren't any discounts for it's a good way to save a chunk. For instance, our Fantasy cruise we have booked at the end of May is pretty pricey at roughly $5k. 10% saves us $500 + we get the onboard credit of $200. You can still have your regular TA assigned to your booking so whatever incentives or onboard credits your agent may offer would stack right on top of what Disney is giving you. The savings do add up. As of right now I think we have 2 dummies floating out there. Our last 2 sailings we've found good discounts so we didn't end up using a dummy. They're there, tho, which gives us options. Ya know?

Don't have to be back so soon on friday, so we'll be hanging out on the dream until they kick us off...they usually have a dynamite breakfast in the morning before you leave.

The question came up of...how much $$$ did this 5-day Xmas cruise cost, since it was 'bought' with Disney Vacation Club points (356 of them)
Well, based on the 3 and 4 day holiday cruises in 2013 I figured that this 5-day Xmas cruise cost over $2700/2 for the Standard Inside Stateroom.
And, using the same basis, a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom w/Verandah would have cost over $3100/2, or $633/night, or about $400 more than the Standard Inside Stateroom
So my Christmas 'gift' to Allyn was about $1,350, and we split the parking and tolls and gas.
But what really brought this question up was the fact that night 2 into the cruise (late Monday night), Allyn forgot his key to the room and while at the front desk he asked if there was an extra room available for him since he was having trouble sleeping (excitement) and having a roaring bear (me snoring) in the room wasn't helping...fortunately they did (?!?) and Allyn moved right into a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom w/Verandah for only a paltry $350 fee...for a room worth over $3100 (or $633/night). So for about the cost of a room upgrade, yey 'we' got a whole 2nd room for 4 nights of the cruise. WHAT A SCORE!!!
So now not only did I still have a buddy to enjoy my trip with, we both had our own private rooms and he had a room he could smoke from...so as Allyn said, it was win-win...and I will note this move for a future cruise.
Considering that and other things It would be hard to write a trip report that anyone would believe but here is a brief report...BELIEVE IT OR NOT
We arrived at the terminal early (~9:40am), waiting behind 1 family to get in (10:30ish), however when we were finally let in, there were already many cruisers there (?!?). My gold status popped me right up to check-in person, however our boarding number was 37 (?!?) so we didn't board the ship until about 12:45pm:-( I guess all the bus loads of Disney cruisers were let in before us, which doesn't seem fair since our $90 for parking is paying for the place?!?
While in the terminal I recognized Alan Kalter (from the David Letterman show) and he and his wonderful wife were happy to take some pictures with us. He even remembered my name when I bumped into him that evening during dinner.
After we got on-board changed our dining schedule to match the excellent server I had on my last cruise (Alex Ocampo), so we were now Royal Palace, Animator, Animator, Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace. Replacing Alex's assistant server (Artadana Artadana, on vacation) was a VERY beautiful woman (Duan Au-arun), 'nuff said...we were both VERY HAPPY...food was marvelous and plentiful the entire cruise.
Allyn, who couldn't sleep Saturday night before the trip, had trouble getting to sleep Sunday night, and despite the ear plugs the roaring bear (me) made it even more difficult. He did manage to get about 4 hours of sleep in the afternoon after running around Nassau, before getting his own room that night.
Allyn, normally was up early each day to watch the ship dock, and hit the exercise room while I slept in waiting for breakfast or lunch to occur.
Christmas morning (sea day) I was a bit disappointed that Santa wasn't giving out presents (he gave out Disney calenders 3 years ago)...all I got from him was a painful groan as I jumped up and down on his lap;-) At lunch Allyn and I attended a singles lunch that was dominated by guys (geez) and 2 beautiful perky...crew members. That night at dinner, I also recognized Megyn Price from Rules of Engagement at the table next to us. Allyn recognized her as well and remembered her name. She wasn't very enthusiastic about meeting fans:-( so we left her alone.
Allyn, enjoyed Castaway Cay, especially the barbecue, while I loafed on the ship.
On Wednesday, I attended my 4th DVC meeting (the 1st was for members) to 1) try to win a $300 on-board credit and 2) learn everything about my membership...turned out that the 4th time was a charm and I won the $300 credit for the day, which covered all my expenses/activities for the cruise. Allyn, lucked into an open slot to para-sail and had a blast...what an experience, I was so happy for him. Pirate Night was fun, with a party buffet afterwards in Cabanas (the only time I ate there), I lounged on the deck and watched the Pirates of the Caribbean...again...what a great movie (as they all were)! Magyn didn't show up for dinner.
On Thursday, I attended the final Bingo session and won $388 (the biggest of the non-jackpot payoffs), which I came home with (with just one bingo machine which was 'financed' by the earlier won DVC credit).
OVERALL, Allyn and I got along great socially despite our many differences, the crew was magnificent, the food was amazing, the weather was perfect.
As we left, I ran into Megyn again as her(?) little girl 'played' with the on-board Magician (who was amazing) as they waited in line to leave the ship...unlike Colter, Megyn wasn't very friendly at all...not that we wanted to disturb her vacation at all, which we didn't, but not a glance or a passing Hi or a wave...still love her, though, and just knowing she was on-board was a kick, and now watching her on Rules of Engagement is so different, like I know her...

This was the 2nd time I won the DVC credit...not including the $500 credit I received when I signed up for the DVC on my 2nd cruise...1st Bingo win, though.

Too bad it seems the 5-day cruises are going away, guess my next cruise will have to be 7-days on the Fantasy...any pretty exhibitionist women interested (dream on, Jeff) and willing to sleep to the gentle sound of motor boat engine with timing problems?

Well I figured that the type of people on THIS Disney board would be 'safe', and I'd rather go with someone than alone (even if it has it's advantages, the lonely time might have distracted from the fun)...but most of all I hated seeing a cabin spot go to waste when I know someone else would enjoy the cruise immensely. And with Allyn helping with the his share of the tips, and the parking (I HATE paying for parking), and tolls (I HATE paying tolls), and the small amount of gas there and back from Orlando, MY trip will be much more enjoyable as well. Ironically on my last cruise 7/2011, I had just paid the last toll on the way to Port Canaveral when I realized that I'd left my passport on my desk at work (needed it to file for retirement in May...normally it is ALWAYS in my car)...so I had to pay ALL the tolls (I HATE paying tolls) TWICE...and since I was hurrying home, I had to incur an additional toll back to I-4 that I normally bypass travelling to and from the Magic Castle.

When I was a single dad I used to cruise with my two kids. It bothered me to no end that I was paying for two adults and one kid when in fact it was one adult and two kids (the adult rates are a LOT more than the kid rates, but the first two people in a room are considered adults, no matter the age). On the last cruise we took I offered to bring along my then girlfriend, it would have been around an additional $400 or so to add her to a 5 day cruise because it would have just cost an additional child rate, but she declined - we had only been dating 4 months or so and she had work committments as well. I have since married her, so I hope she goes on future cruises :D - Not that it matter much now, my oldest is now an adult in Disney's eyes anyway.

No. If you're obscenely early before the port opens to embarking passengers there's a possibility they'll turn you around where you drive into the gated area. We've arrived at 10:30-ish for a 11-11:30 port arrival time and been just fine. Generally 10:30-10:45 is considered "early". Technically the port isn't supposed to open until 11. Back when they first started with the port arrival times they would keep people standing outside the gates where you drop your stuff with the porters curbside. I've not seen that personally but I've seen pics. You can get there early. The only time they'd turn you away is if you arrived crazy early or if the terminal is close to reaching capacity and your arrival time isn't what the current time is. I've never heard of that happening, tho.

We did that. Last cruise we stayed near the port and had nothing better to do so were were there VERY early - the building was not open. We waited where the porters were, and then were let in. We were the second family though security and in line. That got us absoutely nothing. (other than one of the first boarding groups)

I don't know why they held us back when they were obviously letting bus riders in?
Maybe next time I'll take a little walk to see if I can get in through the bus riders entrance?
Anybody know any tricks?
There's really no reason to keep people out...in fact it's better business for the porters, because then after bringing a departing guests bags to their car, they can take arriving guests bags back to the terminal instead of wasting a trip back empty handed...and considering the slight extra time spent doing that, they can always hire more porters.
They should let people arrive as soon as the passengers start getting off of the ship since they load/unload in different places.
I didn't really like the way they handed out boarding assignments where the counter attendant gave it to you...where you getting the next available, or the 'lot' they were assigned? That is if I chose a different attendant might I have gotten an lower/earlier boarding number? I liked it better when a CM handed them out before you got in line...first come first serve.
I want to get on BEFORE the fancy restaurant is full...I don't want to eat in Cabanas.

You won't be able to get over to the bus entrance. You'd have to check in with some cast members first, and I'm sure they wouldn't let you through.

I'm not surprised that they let them in first, but I am very surprised by your boarding number. Did you check in online and choose a port arrival time?

Those boarding numbers are based on your chosen port arrival time.

That could explain it since I couldn't finish online checkin until the last moment and therefore was left with a late arrival time...if that's the case though it's REAL stupid since the point is to manage terminal capacity and leaving us to rot in the terminal instead of quickly boarding us out of the terminal makes no sense.
The boarding number was pen written on a business card so it didn't seem to be determined ahead of time, the normal (non-castaway club) was half full and there were many seats taken already.
NEXT time I will online check-in ASAP and see what that does

That does explain it. It's based on that time you picked, no matter what time you arrive.

Very odd that it was pen written though! That's not normal.
