I will continue watching as long as Miami and Minnesota are still in it...if they get knocked out, I really have no interest.
Now look what you made happen by posting this.

I agree with you about the playoff structuring, by the way. Division titles have become watered down accomplishments since the realignment of '02 (I think?) put only 4 teams in each division. I understand WHY they did it, to maintain symmetry in scheduling as the league grew, but divisions have so few teams now that you're always guaranteed to have some mediocre team(s) hosting games in the first round. Not to mention squeezing better teams like the Patriots out.

I think they should go to a 14-team playoff. Keep the first-round byes for the best team in each conference, but make the 2 seeds play a 7 seed in the first round. Also, get rid of this crap where winning a division gets you a home game. Winning a division should get you IN, but that's it. Home games should be decided by record, like in the NBA. (This might be the ONLY example where I think pro basketball gets it right and the NFL gets it wrong.)

Sorry to keep on ranting about the playoff structure (and it only HALF has to do with San Diego getting in with a mediocre record while teams that played much better are sitting out.)

The playoffs go by division winner...and get seeded accordingly.

What happens when the draft comes?

Yep, San Diego (because of their record) get better draft picks than teams that didn't even make the playoffs.

This year is just proving that it's much better to just "squeak" in...than play fantastic throughout the year.

Why is it one way for the playoffs but another way for the draft?

San Diego should get 28th pick. (Worst record among division winners).

No wonder I follow college football more...oh, wait, they are fouled up too.:ROFLOL:

Actually, you want to know how to fix the problem. Look at how English/Eruopean soccer is structured. I don't think there are as many issues with the winners of the EPL/FA Cup/Champions League.

In my eyes...there should be pre-requisites.

1. Top 6 teams from each conference gets in. (4 Division Champs...and 2 Wild Cards).

2. Every team must have a winning record. (If Division Champs do not have a winning record, they do not make the playoffs...the next team in line with the next highest record makes it.)

(If there are only 5 teams from each conference with winning records, only 5 teams make it to the playoffs. Don't reward mediocrity or sub-par playing. It's not good for the sport and it's not good for the fans.)

3. The teams are seeded according to their record. Home field goes to the team with the better record and top seed plays lowest seed...etc.

4. Top 2 seeds from each conference get first round byes (Goes by record, not division status).

5. Draft picks go by playoff run...and THEN by record.
