So, families that have young children are no longer allowed at F&W on the weekends because you locals decided to make it your hang out? Disney already had to shut down Pleasure Island because of the less than family friendly atmosphere your excessive partying created and given we are their bread-and-butter market, it is only a matter of time before they send you local drunks packing.
Perhaps you should check before calling other posters locals! The last time I checked NYC was not very close to WDW.

I beg to differ. Over the years the "quality" of guests at WDW has been going downhill, in all parks. People scream at kids, damage the park (if your kid is there striping the leaves off of a tree, how about you tell them to stop), litter like it's their job, have no problem standing right in front of your kid at a parade, ush past and cut in line, and do a host of other things as well. The general population of any given park at WDW on any given day has been less polite.

Sure it is not the all out war zone that many of these posts seem to make it out to be, but there has been a definate downward slide in the general plesantness of the people that are attending.

Why, I really do not have an answer.

that's just society in general :(

If he is not a local, then why is he so concerned about our wanting to take our families to F&W on the weekends? He acts like he owns the place or something and kids repulse him. I have news for you BuddyThomas or whatever your name is, if you don't like kids, stay away from Disney!!

I just reread his post and nowhere could I figure out how you got that from what he said.

Sounds more like you don't like adults.

"or whatever my name is"?????? That's my name. Look me up if you don't believe it. I don't hide behind a generic name or a pic of Mickey Mouse.

I have absolutely NOTHING against kids. I do, however, take issue with a self imposed moral majority hurling around their self importance like it is going out of style.

EPCOT serves drinks. Get over it. This is not going to change. They are making a fortune.

And I am not local. I live in NYC.

PS-

I just have to say: BRAVO to the moderators for allowing discussions that contain differences of opinions.

That is why I love this board. On that "other" board, if two people even have the slightest hint if a disagreement, they instantly lock the thread and that is the end of that.

I think that the fact that we are all on this board means we have a basic love of Disney. We will obviously disagree on many things, and the fact that the moderators here, for the most part, allow free discussion, is pretty awesome.

A matter of time? Don't think so. Never gonna happen.

WDW is a business and they will never give up that kind of dough

Sadly, I do not see Disney cutting back on alcohol. Mixing drinking and kids seems to be their #1 priority.

We just got back from Disney yesterday, and in 10 days, did not witness one brawl, one person getting sick in the bushes or anyone being asked to leave because they over indulged. I did witness MANY families with children having a great time. Crowds were crazy busy on the weekends, and the only problem we witnessed were people smoking wherever they pleased (and we're smokers but, come on....) Disney seemed to handle the crowds well, even in the restaurants. Not once did we wait more than 5 minutes after our ADR time, to be seated.

We try to go every year (except for this year :( ) and honestly I have never witnessed it either. We DO go in the middle of the week. We do stay late. We do drink responsibly. We do have children. We ALL have a fantastic time. IDK how people get stinking drunk in the FL heat and NOT pass out and I'm a Floridian! I've run into plenty of a-holes in all parts of WDW Resort and frankly it has absolutely nothing to do with alcohol. I just take it with a grain of salt (sometimes a shot of tequila and a lime) and if the kiddo it there, use it as an example of what not to do and go on with my life:joyfull:

I love World Showcase and love Food and Wine Festival but some people just cannot handle it. Being 23 yeah I go get drunk at F&W but not obnoxious, blacked out puking and tripping on children. However there is nothing you can do about it really other than avoid Epcot during F&W unfortunately. To be fair though its only 2 months a year in 1 of the 4 parks so you can't get TOO upset about. End of the day some people just cant handle drinks around the world at Epcot :p (Disney has to love all of the drunken purchases people make at F&W)

I disagree. There IS something I can do about it. If I find anyone drunk in public, then I take pictures of them on my phone and call security, or the police. "Drunk in Public" is an arrestable offense and creates a public endangerment situation. These drunks have to get home after the park closes, and I don't want to be on the street when they are behind the wheel. I am surprised that MADD has not taken up a stand against this event, if Disney is going to let this kind of mayhem ensue.

On top of this, NO family with children should ever feel intimidated, unsafe, or like they don't belong at a Disney Park...EVER !!!

IMHO: Yes, it is Drunky Town. We won't go during that time again. Last year, a drunk couple fell & landed on my child. They thought it was funny. My husband was lucky he didn't get escorted out of the parks after that incident. We were actually headed out because of all the disorderly drunkenness. The next afternoon we had lunch reservations. Thinking that there would not be very many drunks out at 1:30, we went to them. Yup. Some drunk girl was puking over the black fence with a drink in her hand. Just not our cup of tea, so we won't go back that time a year again.

I am afraid that if any drunk landed on my child - they would be up for charges of "drunk and disorderly" and "criminal assault of a minor". No adult should be allowed to just walk away from that. Suppose they had broken the child's arm!! Shameful !!

If you want to get drunk - go to a bar - not WDW !!

Hard to enforce drunk in public without walking around breathalizing (sp?) people or having "bouncers" walking around Epcot on patrol and that just isn't going to happen so yes you Should be able to do something and it stinks some people can't handle drinking and don't know when to stop but wherever drinks are sold that is just how things are unfortunately and Disney makes a lot of money off those drinks so I don't see then cutting people off telling them they can't spend money anymore on 10 dollar drinks

Just to add more fuel to the fire. We just got back from our F&W trip. We went expressly for F&W - the only other thing we did was see the Osbourne Lights.

Thursday and Friday in EPCOT was a delight. Saturday, not so much. Saturday was extremely crowded, and with crowds come the pushing, waiting, rude people, and short tempers.

I did see on Saturday 3 people who could have been intoxicated - not sloppy drunk, but intoxicated. However, I had to remind myself, this is WDW, it attracts all kinds of people. Just because you feel the urge to turn around in line, hold up your drink, and proclaim "I toast you all" does not mean you are drunk - that could just be how you are. Just like the family of 8 all wearing kilts (including the too too short one on a woman), or the two girls dressed up in anime cosplay, or the person in 70 degree weather wearing jeans tucked into his knee high oxblood Doc Martens.

I came to realize that WDW attracts all kinds (in fact sometimes it tends to attract a disproportionate amount of "odd" folk). People who may not have any compunction about toasting the queue while sober, or regailing me with the history of EPCOT (I know it, I don't need to hear it from you, and I don't go around bragging about my Disney knowledge - really it does not impress me, and it makes you look kind of pathetic).

I saw no public defication or regurgitation - what I did see could have been tipsy people, or just your normal cross section of WDW guests. That, coupled with the Saturday crowds did make us decide to go back to the resort around 5 M - but I would not call it Drunkytown.

I went to Epcot the other day. Several people yelling. Another group singing. During the wait for the bathroom, we had to add an extra person to the wait because a young girl showed up proclaiming that she had to vomit and couldn't wait.

No fighting, though. So, yay that!

Oh Good Gravy, your personal attacks on "locals" (mods? hello?) are getting as tiresome as they are offensive.

Guess what? I am a local. I have young children. I took my wife and young children to Epcot earlier this month, on a Saturday afternoon, to experience the Food and Wine Festival. This was a deliberate choice. And I hate to break it to you, but all Hades did not break loose. There were no hordes of local drunks vomiting on the promenade. No inappropriate displays of affection. Nary a swear word was uttered. There were however plenty of families and groups, local and NON-local, enjoying each others' company, the sunshine, fresh air, and festival atmosphere.

So tone it down Pal. As a local I am pretty darn sure I've spent far more $$$ on Disney parks around the world in the last 15 years than a lot of "non locals" will spend in their lifetime. We have just as much a right to be there as you do. And most of us are pretty darn nice people as well. So please quit your tiresome ranting and useless over-generalizations. Thank you and have a nice day.
