Food & Wine Festival - Drunkytown?

I just got back last night. This last weekend(25,26,27) was not as bad as I have seen in past years. It did not seem as crowded and the people I saw were behaving. Maybe I am getting old but some of the clothes the women were wearing, or not wearing in this case was shocking. I don't know how they made it into the park. I saw a lot of see thru pants with thong style or no underwear. I don't know anywhere that would be appropriate except for a brothel.

I'm not whining. I'm stating my observation. This is a discussion forum, and I'm responding within the subject of the thread. Don't take offense if I don't agree with you.

I've seen alcohol destroy lives, and I rarely drink. Maybe I come from a different school of thought. I don't need to get plowed to have a good time.

I've never done wine pairings but have read it adds a whole different perspective having the right wine to compliment a specific course. Personally I would not know the difference in Moët and Two Buck Chuck, but do like my tea sweet. I don't see how they could ever remove alcohol. And letting irresponsible fools ruin it for the majority does not make sense to me. More staff, more security and a crackdown on idiots would seem like a good solution if the problem grows. So far it seems the problem is a matter of perspective, and security can't really fix that.

Absolutely right! I looked to learn about wine pairings for my business, and have been lucky enough to meet some wonderful chefs, however, wine pairing is a few sips of wine with a small portion of food. Yes, some indulge a wee bit much, but most don't, at Disney, from my personal experiences. Alot of people know we do food and wine every year, and asked me for suggetions and I always say, sample the wine (or whatever spirit is paired with a particular food) and drink lots of water or soda in between. (I am actually not a fan of soda, so water with lemon is my preferred drink of choice)

I'm at Epcot all the time mainly in World Showcase and I don't see that many drunks mainly people just having a good time and enjoying themselves. There is about 30,000 people a day at Epcot and I'm sure not all of them are drunk or as bad as many people exaggerate.

I had a great time at F&W a couple of weeks ago. Not a drink of alcohol and didn't see anyone out of hand. I was on DDP and used snack credits so I wasn't even bothered by prices at all. Of course, I was there for lunch in the middle of the week so I'm sure that helped. Still, I very much looked forward to it and wasn't disappointed.

There are times I make my way around the WS without incident. There are times that I witness ridiculously poor, obnoxious, foul-mouthed, foul-gestured behavior.

You'll have good luck. I feel it.

I was there last week Monday, Thursday and Friday for F&W. Monday's crowds were fine, and they were on Friday until about 4pm, when things started to build. But that's when we left, as we knew to get out before the crowds get too crazy. One thing I did notice is that the crowd levels were fairly high on Thursday evening, and it seemed to us that a lot of the folks there were college-aged kids. Makes sense if they were taking advantage of those discounted tix; this was just an updated "bar night" for some of them. But even with the extra people we didn't see any signs of drunkenness or obnoxious behavior. Of course, we know to avoid Friday night through Sunday.

I should also proclaim that the Crispy Pork Belly in Brazil won "best of show" for just about everyone in our group. That was fantastic... lots of other worthy offerings, too. Argentina and Africa come to mind.

As far as Flower and Garden... I was there this year for the first of the new food booths, and thought they were a nice addition. They are deliberately making sure that there is no overlap between items at the two festivals; if anything the Garden booths offered slightly larger and more expensive portions. Plus, there were about half the booths as Food & Wine... of course, we'll see if that holds in 2014.

I just got back home yesterday. I was expecting to see UFC style fights from all the drunks in Epcot. Well I was sure disappointed to see people eating and drinking responsibly. After reading some of the threads on here, I was expecting to see some serious smack downs and folks throwing up in the street.

I went Saturday night, then closed it down Wednesday for the EMH. Not one fight or rowdy drunk in the whole place! Maybe next year.

Nobody has said it isn't possible to have a good experience. What we've said is that it is also possible to have a bad one...because we've had them.

Was there last weekend and had to leave because I could not stand the crush of people and the smell from the foods. This Friday AFTERNOON, around 3 - not nighttime, in front of the American Adventure there were a group dressed in kilts, quite drunk, yelling MFers while the Fife & Drum Corp played the national anthem. That total lack of respect qualifies as Dunkytown for sure.

We were there Sunday 11/3 and Monday 11/4 we didn't have any problems with drunks or annoying rude people it was just crowded on Sunday afternoon and we were leaving as it started to get crowded Monday. We were there 1 - 4 Sunday and 11 - 5 Monday. We got every booth done and got our completion stamp. My DD was very happy as we had promised her a F&W Duffy Bear if she earned a stamp from each booth She happily tried bites of food from each country and liked most of it. My DH and I had to help her out with the few alcohol only booths

IMHO: Yes, it is Drunky Town. We won't go during that time again. Last year, a drunk couple fell & landed on my child. They thought it was funny. My husband was lucky he didn't get escorted out of the parks after that incident. We were actually headed out because of all the disorderly drunkenness. The next afternoon we had lunch reservations. Thinking that there would not be very many drunks out at 1:30, we went to them. Yup. Some drunk girl was puking over the black fence with a drink in her hand. Just not our cup of tea, so we won't go back that time a year again.

I love World Showcase and love Food and Wine Festival but some people just cannot handle it. Being 23 yeah I go get drunk at F&W but not obnoxious, blacked out puking and tripping on children. However there is nothing you can do about it really other than avoid Epcot during F&W unfortunately. To be fair though its only 2 months a year in 1 of the 4 parks so you can't get TOO upset about. End of the day some people just cant handle drinks around the world at Epcot (Disney has to love all of the drunken purchases people make at F&W)

Maybe in the future with mymagic they will be able to regulate how much alcohol one consumes in a certain time period. If you want alcohol you have to use your band or ticket with RDIF... I don't know, just a thought. Because, it is nice to have a drink and walk around WSL, listen to the music. So, if the drunks can't be responsible for themselves, then mymagic can hold their hand...

So, families that have young children are no longer allowed at F&W on the weekends because you locals decided to make it your hang out? Disney already had to shut down Pleasure Island because of the less than family friendly atmosphere your excessive partying created and given we are their bread-and-butter market, it is only a matter of time before they send you local drunks packing.
