Stop. It's something that has been going on awhile. I've just decided to point it out.

F&W is an acquired taste.

Sorry :o
From what I've seen, he just posts his views, many of which just happen to not coincide with yours.

Yeah, I guess that you just have to be into it. Otherwise, it could a rather dull experience, I think.

And why are you apologizing? We are just having a discussion. Nothing to apologize for.

Yes id rather drink straight Jack then wine, they should have a beefest!
My family never drank while I was growing up, so I think that has to do with why it doesn't appeal to me.
No matter if it has a price or not, it's not something that I'm likely to attend. I guess that's what I'm trying to say. :)

I was apologizing for my bad humor. But not really.:p

And my grandpa used to stick my dummy in his whiskey before giving it to me when I was a baby, so I guess environment is a factor. :animwink: Funnily enough I cant stand Scotch, like everything else though.

I obviously have a different view of people on here than you do, which is fine. However, I would like to end this conversation and return to the topic of the thread.

Just wondering, is there anyone out there who would gladly pay the $8 if the event stayed exactly the same and the crowds remained?

Yeah, your living environment, especially while growing up, reflects upon you a lot as you become an adult.

I wouldn't.

I wouldn't stand in the lines for free, so I'm sure as heck not going to waste an hour of my day just to pay $8.

In all honesty, $8 is worth about an hour of my time. I would want my wait to be less than 20 minutes tops for it to be worth it.

$8 is also near the top of my price point as well. Any more than that and they become not worth it to me.

Can we please stop the petty bickering thats going on here? Each time we get a thread with some discussion, we have people chiming in with nonsense and getting totally off-topic.

JT04 I think you two need to take a break away from some of these threads.

Remember, we are here for discussion. We don't need the bickering and getting off topic with personal disputes.

Please do now carry on.

Maybe they are just trying to raise funds to reopen WOL?

Now that is something I could get behind! :D

On topic, if this happens, I hope Disney adds something to the experience to justify the cost (whether it be portion size, entertainment, etc). I, sadly, doubt that will happen. :o

Perhaps the wineries can't afford to give the wine away anymore? They've been hit pretty hard, as wine is something that can be easily cut from a family budget. Too many people were taking advantage of the free wine, but not buying the featured brands when they went home. (Which is the whole purpose of the wineries being there.)

It reminds me of a neighborhood shopping center's Christmas party. It started as a way for local merchants (in a shopping district) to thank their patrons, and have their shops open later. They would provide liight refreshments, and have music, sleigh rides, etc. It has gotten so crowded with people from outside the neighborhood that the locals don't go anymore, and the shop owners no longer provide free wine, cheese, etc to shoppers. In talking to a merchant, it really doesn't increase sales, so many will no longer participate.

I would be willing to pay extra to attend an "after hours" F&W Festival, if it meant returning to the atmosphere of the original.

How was it in the beginning Mom? I have only experienced it once and found it to overpriced (for the portion sizes) and sort of lacking. I greatly preferred F&G.

Seeing that I have been dragged into this...
Agreed, its becoming very expensive - basically out of my price range now. It's been heading this way for the last few years. You can basically buy a sit down lunch somewhere now for the price of trying a few tiny samples. I cant imagine what it must be like for a family of 4 heading around World Showcase trying to do some of the samples - $100+ for some very small offerings.
I strongly agree-
Which is essentially ridiculous seeing that that you used to get it for for free.

Unless the quality goes up, I don't understand the change....Especially when guest spending is down.

That's the same 'tude here. You can't love WDW and still wish Erin Wallace, Al Weiss and Phil Homes were in the unemployment line? ... well, you can.
Another post I strongly agree with. Nothing is absolute. I agree with the company philosophy. I agree with the product the market and produce. Do I agree with the decisions used to proliferate it these days? A firm and emphatic NO. Seeing that, it's possible to gush and love and GO to Disney and still enjoy yourself. I'm poised to do that... But I am also poised to question, to wonder, and to notice things. These things that I do pick on are often brought up here. It's a prerogative.
"Evan", who claims he hates bickering, never hesitates to compliment anyone who tries to insult me or some other posters here. He lets others do his dirty work. I find that a bit snarky. I'd much rather he confront me directly if he has a problem with me. I have it on good authority he knows my primary antagonist here so I have an idea what his motivation is.

Now can we please return to the topic at hand.

The F&W festival is like a fine vintage or me. It only gets better with time.

What is this? Is it supposed to scare me?

You insult others as well. You insult me. It's a big circle. Honestly, I appologize if a comment hurt you, but you should have spoken up. I would have stopped. :o:wave:However...I have spoken up, and you do not. You "wonder" what the insult was when it was veiled and there all along.

And if I know people, I know people. You know people too, and I could care less. I'm not about to get into a laundry list of "He knows! She knows!" If I have people who I know who I agree with me, more power to me...And the same to you. You have it on good authority. Communications is a great thing, but that's the SSE Fan in me speaking.

Now....Can We Go On? I have a trip to pack for.:D

Have fun. I've agreed to avoid the OP at all cost and will do so.

Looking forward to the trip report.

Adios thread. I feel better already.

Liquor sales are rising. That can't really be used as an excuse.

I don't really understand why this is being discussed as though it's something new...the information that Disney would be charging a nominal fee for these seminars has been available since April at least, and the exact price has been available since mid-July or so (and there's a whole other thread dedicated to this information, as previously mentioned).
So while I acknowledge wdw1974 tends to have lots of inside information, this is really just re-hashing something that's already been discussed.

Personally, I made many trips over to the festival center last year (which is not a fun walk when you're on the other side of the world showcase), only to be turned away from demos I really wanted to see because they were already full 45 minutes in advance. I had friends that insisted they wouldn't go back to the seminars because they got irritated with the people that came in, drank their free wine/ate their free food, then left in the middle of the seminar to get in line for the next one. So, I applaud this decision - I hope I can buy the tickets first thing in the morning and know which seminars I'm "in" for so that I know when to make the walk over to the festival center in advance.:sohappy:

Wine around the showcase is ~$4 for a little sample...the seminars usually have at least 4 of those little samples per person...so that's about $16 worth of kiosk-priced wine, with some education added in. I'll pay the $8 and see it as a bargain.

Im sure a few days ago, this gentleman did a piece on how Johnny Foreigner has destroyed the US's beer production and through socialist imposed taxes drink sales have plummeted. An opinion Im sure that is fair and balanced.

Thats why when they tell me the date I check the calender.

However, you are leaving out key components in making that decision.

No offense, but you and others are just seeing in the past it was free and now they are charging and that is bad.

You are not taking into account the situation. Over the course of the Food and Wine festival, before they reduced wine tastings, waits were still hovering around 45-60 minutes to get in.

It seems to me that Disney is charging a fee to help reduce the wait times.

If this is effective, then the quality of my experience will go up.

Just because something that used to be free is now being charged for doesn't make it bad out of prinicple.

Liquor sales are rising. That can't really be used as an excuse.
But what about wine sales? That's like saying don't complain about potato chips, because pretzel sales are still strong!
