Quality in some case is a personal preference. If by pay $8 I get to participate in a tasting, even if it is the same as last year, the quality of my experience went up, because I have been able to do something I was missing out on.

It's not a black and white situation.
I guess that makes the entire line of opinions warranted now, then, though.;)

Based on my own convictions, I think 8 bucks for one little tasting is a waste.:shrug:
Mmmmm, implying that she is both historic and a booze hound, and you got away with it. Im impressed. :animwink:
:ROFLOL:

supply and demand - this concept needs to be stressed more to kids and adults.

If $8 causes empty booths and seminars - then they will most likely go back to free or low cost.

I've found as soon as you even charge 5 cents for something, people actually take a second to think about whether they actually want something. You put "free" on a pile of garbage, people will line up to get a piece.

I have never been to the F&W but am considering a spur of the moment trip for October. I'm a little confused by one thing: the $8 that is in question, does that money go to disney or to the vendor?

If disney is getting the extra revenue, then there seems to be little arguement against greed being a factor.

If the vendors are receiving this fee, well, like any earlier post said; maybe they are sick of giving away free F&W to customers who have inclination of making a purchase.

sorry, if I am way off base but I don't know how this all works.
I can guarantee you that we will never know where it goes. No more than we know how our admission to the parks is allocated.

It really depends on the vendor.

We did Chateau Reynella and they provided with straight tastings of the different types of grape "wines" they mixed to get their Chardonnay. We then got to mix them ourselves to try and match their formula. Of course, then the guy told us not to buy their bottles at Disney and we haven't seen that winery since!

Then we did McWilliams and it was basically, "Hey here are four wine tastings. Enjoy." However, we really enjoyed their wine and usually have a bottle or two at the house.

Just opinion of course, but in my past experience the tastings are usually worth the $8.

As for Chateau Reynella, they may no longer be at F&W but you can still get a glass of their awesome chardonnay at Kona's for dinner.

I agree and I do not even like wine. Personally I wish they would put in a coffee tasting. Coffee is getting nearly as diverse as wine and I would love to be able to try some some different beans without throwing down $10-$50 for a pound of beans that might turn out to be swill.

That is a great idea. Coffee really is an untapped market.

Of course, I'm not sure Disney wants to showcase good coffee with the ink in a cup they serve across property (with the exception of the press pots).

Maybe it would actually get them to change!? Worst coffee ever.:brick:

Bring Starbucks in. :zipit::zipit::zipit:

Seriously, for most vacationers, whatever coffee of whatever flavor to wake up and go is good enough. :)

The coffee is a good idea because I hate wine but I was in DL for their FWF and they had a beer walk where you pay $5 and get to try like 8 beers from around the world. They should do something like this.

You can easily spend $100 a person just nibbling and sipping your way around World Showcase Lagoon and now the few free tastings are history.

I've never gone to a food and/or wine/beer/chocolate festival anywhere that didn't charge something. Either there was a charge to get in the door, or they charged by the food sample or drink.

I feel the prices charged at the Festival are reasonable, and the portions are enough to fill me up before I make it half way around the lagoon.

I'm sorry you feel that you're being shafted. :(

Well, looks like I'm skipping Food and Wine during my October trip!

I was looking forward to the free tastings. Looks like Halloween Horror nights is a lock for me!:D

Let's see if I have this right. When the wine tastings were free they sucked. Now that they are going to charge $8 for them they are going to be great. Why not charge $16 for them, and make them fantastic?

I don't think I would pay $8 for a free wine tasting. However I would for Grandpa's all natural malted barley flavored dummy.

You are leaving out a few details. When whine tastings were free they sucked because they became mob scenes. Now that they charge $8 for them they are going to be great because crowds will be smaller and you can actually interact with the wine makers and not feel like you are being rushed.

I left nothing out. That's what I'm saying. Charge $16, and make the crowds even smaller. After all, it's to much of a hastle to figure out a way to keep the tastings free, and have them more organized. Let's just go for the standard old raise prices. It seems to work for everything else at WDW.

Yes! :D And even mate from Argentina would be an excellent addition besides wine.

Maybe we should have prefaced that request with bring in good coffee.
 But of course!

Now if McDonald's were still sponsors with its McCafe's... :zipit::zipit::zipit:
