Here's a link to "Ferrari World", a park set to open next year in the Middle East.
Watch the hype video and see the live construction cam, it's real.

Thoughts? Is this the way things are heading where a brand is a park?

Worked for Legoland I guess.

RE: Ferrari World - world's fastest coaster...hmmmm... I have to say it looks pretty cool.

And did anyone catch the DC Comics park in the same link? ...double hmmmm...

Reminds me of a Johnny Quest-ish overly elaborate Billionaire's Theme Park where all the rides are over the top and goofly themed to the guy's products. The kids end up fighting goons in the "Giant Engine Boat Ride." I'm sure.

Watch out for the Pistons Johnny!

Oh, and "Flying Over Italy", don't think I don't see what you're doing there!

It's probably going to be a glorified Six Flags under the giant, red, and beautiful dome.

Kinda sad :/

The biggest problem I see is that there is really nowhere else to go with brands that are so limited in their focus. Sure, ferrari could change the style of the cars to match the latest F-1 designs and show off the latest consumer cars, but what else?

With Ferrari, I also question what this sort of venture has the possibility of doing to its real customers. Disneyland Paris tried to get a Formula One race, and it really went nowhere. The overlap in people who can buy a Ferrari and those who enjoy theme parks is not that large. Add into this that sustaining a theme park, to some degree, means opening up to a "less exclusive" clientele.

Having worked for Ferrari and visited their factory, I realized that they are far more than a car brand. They sell out their models to collectors and make most of their money in licensing their name to F1 and in merchandise, as in that part of the world they and F1 are king. So the fans are the business and the romance of the car and racing is what they sell. It's Italian sensuality. So I could see this working over there if the experience blows away the guest. (That remains to be seen.)

Here's the project we worked on for the Wynn Resort. A Ferrari showroom in the Casino that actually charges and gets 10 bucks admission. It's their number one selling American dealer too.

It looks like the Shanghai project is a go. It will be fun to follow the conceptual artwork as this park looks different than the others. Congratulations to WDI.

I heard that it will not be a traditional DL style park, have you heard anything like this Eddie?

Ah, but the more Ferrari pushes their brand and their merchandise, the more they lose their allure and luster with me. Most Ferrari cars still make my head turn, but increasingly the branding is leaving me with a sour taste. At what point will Ferrari lose their racing soul? Ferrari bean bags? Ferrari snuggies? I have heard their factory is impressive, but shouldn't that be where it ends? A theme park seems excessive. I would think a better way to further their brand would be to attach theme park experiences to their dealerships. A way to further the brand while keeping the core message honed. If Ferrari keeps up with their branding drive, a car like a Spyker would be more appealing to me rather than a Ferrari. But I suspect that is just personal preference.

Moving on, Shanghai could be unlike anything WDI has ever done before. There is a risk of the Magic Kingdom "brand" becoming a bit stale if steps aren't taken to shake it up. Why not place the castle in a vastly different setting for each park? Paris is the only one that really seems "different" to me, although I'm sure the mountains behind Hong Kong's castle add a different feel. Why not a big lake in front of the castle? Why not build a castle into a cliffside? Why not a castle that isn't a castle? Why not build DOWN, not UP? Plop a large bubble down and have it be the weenie visible from Main Street and as people draw closer, they can look down and see a gleaming gold castle visible through water-- Ariel's Castle? People can take large bubblevators down and see actual sea life swimming around. Why not?

Finally, "in-betweens" are what separate good companies from great companies. There are those who are content to design an interesting exterior and fill the inside with generic furniture; and there are those who design everything, including the air people breathe.

Funny, I was wondering the same thing, and asked as much on another forum. Something about the way they are referring to it as a "Disney Theme Park" and not as "Shanghai Disneyland."

I, for one, hope it isn't a DL style park.

We all crave originality, and maybe they'll actually give it to us here. The possibilities are endless.

From what I have been hearing the Shanghai park is supposed to be in this style.

My favorite "in-between" is the lagoon in front of the WDW Magic Kingdom. It's a shame no other park replicates this. We didn't like how close the RER (railroad) was to DLP and how the park wasn't in a far-away land, but sometimes there is only so much land to go around!
