Oh... My... Gawd. You live near Florence? I'm sure you've told me that before during our various chats, online and offline, but I'm such an aging idiot that I keep forgetting that and think you live in the Portland metro area. And you keep asking for my opinion on your re-re-rebooked Disneyland vacation, and I keep saying "Aw, forget it, go to the Oregon Coast and visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory instead" as if that's something exotic and adventurous for you and your family.

I'm an idiot. I'm so sorry. You freaking live on the central Oregon Coast, perhaps one of the most stunningly beautiful environments in the entire Lower 48. You don't live in boring hipster Portland (with admittedly great restaurants).

You guys! - This is what the average view looks like for @Curious Constance almost every day as she runs errands...

Here's a picture of @Curious Constance on the misty, salty, central Oregon Coast just before she makes her weekly Target run, trying to remember what she needs besides paper towels, Skippy peanut butter, and Tidy-Bowl toilet tabs.

Honorable Mention to Constance for her fun Side Pony hairdo and Tomato Red skinny jeans. Mother Nature Is On Notice!

She's been trying to find a vacation destination for her family that could rival that, and then Disneyland keeps being closed. This is going to be hard, especially when the only Disney Experience! happening this summer in Anaheim is this...

I think I know which option I would choose.
I am fairly certain they meant Downey, TP.

Hahahahaha No apology necessary! I wish all of that were true (living directly on the coast, the side pony tail, AND the red skinny jeans) but I actually live about 45 minutes from the coast, and sadly don’t own red pants, but sometimes my hair does sort of go to the side when I have it pulled back! Not nearly as high though. 😕

There was a time in my life I would have loved to live in Portland, but at this point in my life, there is no way in hell I’d ever move there. Despite not living far from the coast, we don’t get there nearly as often as I’d like and going there is very much a much needed retreat. The ocean and ocean life are my absolute favorite things and just make me happy. I mean look as those pictures, it’s ridiculously enchanting!!!!
Also last year we got an adorable puppy that we all have fallen in love with and we are going to take him with us. The kids can’t wait to see him play on the beach. I’m hoping he doesn’t consume as much sand as he does grass and weeds. 😁

Sooooo the only thing I’m mad at you for is for assuming we would eat Skippy Peanut butter!!!! 🤢😤 JIF all the way!!!!!

You know what's really stupid? I almost typed JIF. I'm a JIF Creamy man myself. I knew there was a reason I liked you.

But for whatever reason, I went with Skippy on this one. Maybe because Annette Funicello used to do the Skippy commercials, and so sub-consciously I associate Skippy with a Disneyland message board?

Also, I agree about Portland. There was a time in the 1990's and 2000's when I really enjoyed that town. Before Portlandia, when it wasn't so self-aware. But also post 1980's when it knew it was the scrappier and hipper version of Seattle with great restaurants, great shopping with no sales tax, lush boutique hotels (in the 90's before boutique hotels were a thing) like the Vintage Plaza and Hotel Lucia, plus the incredible Powell's Bookstore.

But now? Portland in 2020 with all the violence and daily protests and nightly looting? No thanks. I'll just Shelter In Place in OC with my Amazon Prime membership and avoid that civic disaster, thanks.

Confession -

I had to look twice at that photo of the gent wearing that WDW 'Castle hat' as at first I thought it was just a Photoshopped image.
But then i realized it's actually REAL.....and the hat is real.......and now I don't know whether to laugh myself silly or be deeply disturbed.
🤭

And why does that guy remind me of a certain former head of a CGI animation studio....?
Must be the shirt.
( groans )
Now I AM deeply disturbed....being reminded of 'that guy'.....!

OK, another post, but has anyone heard how the crowds been the past two days? Kind of funny you got all these reports from the first day and then zip after that lol.

I'm waiting for @TP2000 's exciting report whenever he gets himself to Downtown Disney.
He promised us more of his fabulous photos and first hand reporting!

Those local vloggers and lifestylers have got nothin'....
TP doesn't get paid off by TDA to talk like he just snorted a handful of pixie dust and gives honest commentary.
Looking forward to his visit!

( So when are you going , TP? Surprised you aren't there already for the hot scoop! )

I'm not there for the hot scoop because it's too darn hot! Anaheim hit 100 degrees today; that baking, brilliant, blast-furnace kind of mid summer sun. Even shady Villa Park reached 98 degrees. No thanks.

I'm sheltering indoors with some lemonade and the AC set at 68 degrees.

But it's supposed to cool off back to normal summer temps later this week, and I want to check out Downtown Disney and the state of the Anaheim Resort District as a whole, and then report back.

Plus, I need to go to World of Disney to find one of those giant Castle hats!

The heat wave kicked in hard on Saturday and today, and from the Twitter that I looked at yesterday it seemed very... dead. Who would go there to that outdoor unshaded retail canyon in this heat?

Let me go look at my Twitter and see how it's going today...

Here's a photo from 20 minutes ago. Looking rather desolate.

And here's what the Esplanade looked like at 4:30pm today.

Earlier today, this is the view from in front of Earl of Sandwich at 1:00pm today.
This is apparently what the After Church Lunch Rush looks like.

Thank you! Yeah it does look pretty sparse lol. Maybe it is the heat keeping people away. I certainly wouldn't be going with the lack of shade that place has. And it's compounded worse since all the restaurants you are forced to eat outside and can't be near any real air conditioning. I know on hot days like this when I hit DTD we usually go to the lobby of GCH or DLH to find a place to sit for awhile. But those options don't exist now.

We may try and go sooner now since it looks like either way it's not exactly crazy with people....when it's cooler of course.

Does anyone know if the restaurants are taking reservations for big groups? I’ve called Naples 4 times today and no one picks up the phone nor is there any automated message.

Both Saturday and Sunday the resort closed off parking for a bit because DTD had reached capacity. That said, capacity is being kept very low for now so DTD never really feels busy unless you are trying to get into World of Disney or Naples. Every day has seen the largest surge late morning/early afternoon with the "crowds" tapering off throughout the day.

The reason you haven't seen any coverage this weekend is all the bloggers showed up on opening day and, having conversed with a few of them, they had little interest in retuning until the parks (or at least more restaurants) open back up.
