Downtown Disney Reopens July 9th - Tracking The Changes & Closures

Love your idea @Th3 DUd3. Even if they couldn't get your idea passed, Disney might be able to help out the DT businesses by adding some sort of characters out and about. If not on the street itself, maybe have them waving out the windows on the passing monorail?? That could potentially elevate the area to be "not just another mall". They could also work with a couple of the businesses to have them temporarily sell Dole whips and Mickey balloons. :)
Exactly. This would even help the supply chains of Disney as well since they can ramp up production of goods and perishables in a way where it doesn't shock their supply system as well. Small batches and then when demand increases they already have a foundation. If things get worse then they aren't laying off everyone that would have come back on a large scale.

I've tweaked the title of things but think Downtown Disney's American Homecoming Revival works because a lot of us consider a Disney theme park as "Home" and the "Revival" is because my hope is more people have woken up about things in life, woken up about perspectives and more importantly act on those new found revelations to create internal revolutions. It's not Disney and it's my own thoughts, but that was the original idea.

My pseudo press release

Come back home to embrace lost freedom and be a part of the revival to the spirit of imagination.

Any chance you can push it back to sometime in September?
Hoping they will be open by then, but someone supposedly in the know has suggested that November is a target month.
I have a hard time believing that...but we shall see.
I'm still positive September will be a go.

There's been quite a bit of bad press regarding WDW's opening which will explode if there's a WDW outbreak. It's a safe bet if that happens DLR's opening will be pushed back even further to mitigate damage to the brand. It really all depends on if Americans can get their collective act together. If we want the places we love to open and stay open we all have be proactive in stopping the spread of the virus. Otherwise it's possible Disneyland won't open until next year.

Yes, and I've been told that as well....
Next year.

Interested to see how this all unfolds.
Today alone has been......interesting.

I think I’ve kind of made the decision that I’d rather wait until everything calms down and some what normalizes before going. I wasn’t looking forward to wearing a mask for a solid week at Disneyland in the August heat and wouldn’t feel comfortable going at this time without everyone wearing masks. Also, once school starts back up in September it’s too hard taking a middle schooler and high schooler out of school for a week. Going on vacation knowing there is an associated risk going along with it (even if it’s small) kinda puts a damper on things anyway. It costs a lot of money to go and I’d rather wait until we can enjoy it to the fullest. My kids feel the same, so it just feels right to wait.

We are going to the OR coast for a few days in a hotel on the beach. It’ll be secluded and we probably won’t be near anyone the whole time. We will have some down time and just relax :)

Oregon's only had 232 total deaths. Seems like a pretty safe place to be. I have a sister in Florence, on the coast. I live in LA so there's no comparison in death rates.

Wait it out.

Yes
I'm actually kind of jealous of that lineup, especially with opening month severely reduced capacity of 25% or less.

As much as I made fun of Millennium Falcon: Target Run and Star Wars-Rise Before Dawn, I actually found them to be not bad rides. And Runaway Railway looks even better, really innovative and fun! Add in the decent Midway Mania and that Soarin' Over IP That No One Cares About thing in Avatarland, with a nice dinner at California Grill, and it actually sounds like a really fun day!

I sincerely do hope you and the missus enjoy yourselves, and that you report back on your experience here. :)

Exactly my thoughts. Judging from the crowds at AK today, which anything Disney has been packed on day one and then decreased in interest/attendance afterwards, I should have a great time with the missus. It's been a number of years since I went to those two parks as I wanted to wait until construction was done. Now that they're done, I can truly enjoy the new experiences. With no crowds? We will be able to finish quickly and avoid staying in the heat all day (or do the rides over and over again).

Have fun! We had plans to go to WDW in September but so many factors finally made us not to try. Sadly the fact Florida is just getting worse in terms of the virus is a big one but we actually cancelled before it got crazy as it is. We can always try again but financially probably won't be able to for awhile anyway. But if the crowds aren't crazy and they keep reservation in place through the rest of the year, we may try again. It was going to be my girlfriend and our kids first time there.

We are going to be there primarily to see my mother and father, this just happened to fall in place and figured with the low crowds, it was worth it. The virus is definitely worrying and something on the forefront of our minds for sure. Thankfully, we won't have the kids, so I think that will make it easier to manage since we won't have to think about the kids with their masks and everything. With kids would be nigh impossible.

You will have a great time! Honestly! Pandora—of all the immersive Disney lands I have been to—is my very favorite. Beautiful to walk around and just soak in the ambience. And flight of passage is actually one of my very favorite rides. It actually makes me giddy, the sensation of flight beyond that of Soarin. My sister rode it 4 times in a row yesterday at CM preview 😆.

Toy story land is pretty at night, but hell during the day. No shade, and no water features. Rides are meh, slinky is okay, but I love midway mania (but you have that here).
Not a big fan. Especially since it came right after Pandora.

Galaxy edge is the same as here.

Expedition Everest and the night offerings at animal kingdom are pretty sweet actually. Fantastic is much worse than here.

California grill is a wonderful choice, great food, great sushi (though small portions), and great desserts. The view of the magic kingdom is incredible; a magical experience.

Topolinos — this one I haven’t tried, I went downstairs instead—but they have phenomenal homemade pasta I hear. So fun to ride the skyliner and end up here.

You made a good choice to visit ☺Let me know if you have individual questions! Like I said, I’m new to DL, but the WDW parks are embedded in me lol

Thanks! I used to live in Windermere and visited WDW quite a bit. The last five years I've lived in TX. I can't wait to experience the new offerings at AK and DHS though. Plus Topolinos. Really excited for the new attractions and seeing my wife experience it for the first time. Hoping to experience the Skyliner as well!

They legally can't allow anyone into the actual park which main street is a part of. Your plan could never happen.

We don’t live too far from Florence and have been there many times :)

Oh... My... Gawd. You live near Florence? I'm sure you've told me that before during our various chats, online and offline, but I'm such an aging idiot that I keep forgetting that and think you live in the Portland metro area. And you keep asking for my opinion on your re-re-rebooked Disneyland vacation, and I keep saying "Aw, forget it, go to the Oregon Coast and visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory instead" as if that's something exotic and adventurous for you and your family.

I'm an idiot. I'm so sorry. You freaking live on the central Oregon Coast, perhaps one of the most stunningly beautiful environments in the entire Lower 48. You don't live in boring hipster Portland (with admittedly great restaurants).

You guys! - This is what the average view looks like for @Curious Constance almost every day as she runs errands...

Here's a picture of @Curious Constance on the misty, salty, central Oregon Coast just before she makes her weekly Target run, trying to remember what she needs besides paper towels, Skippy peanut butter, and Tidy-Bowl toilet tabs.

Honorable Mention to Constance for her fun Side Pony hairdo and Tomato Red skinny jeans. Mother Nature Is On Notice!

She's been trying to find a vacation destination for her family that could rival that, and then Disneyland keeps being closed. This is going to be hard, especially when the only Disney Experience! happening this summer in Anaheim is this...

I think I know which option I would choose.

I'm an idiot. You freaking live on the central Oregon Coast, perhaps one of the most ruggedly beautiful environments in the entire Lower 48. You don't live in Portland. I'm sure that I'm racist for thinking you live in boring hipster weird Portland, instead of out on the stunningly beautiful Oregon coast.
