Downtown Disney Reopens July 9th - Tracking The Changes & Closures

There goes my second trip. Lol

My airline changed our flight down. No longer doing direct flights to LA, so they put us on a one stop in Phoenix flight. I bet that would enable me to qualify for a full refund now rather than just a credit towards future flight if I cancel. Not sure how much longer to wait it out. Probably zero chance of then opening by early august now right?
Are there direct flights to Orlando?

Using a solid four business week timeframe from a Sacramento announcement to a Main Street USA rope drop, I think the best case scenario right now is a reopening date of Friday, August 7th.

I may be wrong, there may be some serious backroom dealings going on in Sacramento that could accelerate that, if Disney promises to send 50 gallons per month of hair gel to the 2024 Newsom Presidential Super PAC.

But from all previous information, and the timelines Disney has alluded to, August 7th appears to be the best case scenario right now after the close of business with complete silence on Friday, July 10th.

Also from Bioreconstruct on the Twitter machine, is this photo of Disneyland taken this afternoon. Looking very abandoned.

Just look at the zoomed in Main Street USA, waiting for the Brain Trust in TDA to acknowledge @Th3 DUd3's idea to turn this into part of Downtown Disney to get some valid interest from customers.

That is so rude of them. I've been there 5 or so times and each time my wife and I have never gotten bread or our beverages refilled, despite them paying attention to other tables.

The problem is they have this mass of people in prison uniforms that clean/refill/bread-service the tables instead of your actual waiter. They aren't keeping track of anything and just kind of pick and choose random tables to service.

When I emailed patina about this I got a response with them saying "we will give you a real italian exeprience", with no contact information or instructions. I also have no idea what they meant.
Next time e-mail the general manager of Naples. They'll take care of you.

I love that guy! But where was he back in 2018 during Star Wars Land construction?

Just look at that photo. There are some humans hidden under the shade and along the sides of the buildings (especially up by the World of Disney entrance), but Downtown Disney at approximately 1pm on Friday afternoon looks like a total ghost town.

This was Day Two, when they still had Ebayers scrambling for 65th Merchandise. What does it look like a week from now? Another week where Sacramento fails to give any "guidance" to California's theme parks on when they may be able to reopen. Best case scenario right now is Disneyland reopens Friday, August 7th.

This is not a viable business plan for Downtown Disney this summer.
Per California's guidelines theme parks are supposed to be given clearance to open in advanced stage 3. Orange County has effectively reverted back to early stage 2. Indoor dining and bars will be allowed to re-open long before theme parks will. Disneyland probably won't open for a couple of months at least. Downtown Disney will likely shut down again before the end of July.

Thanks TP. Despite my whimsical approach to most things I was really being serious about my efforts. I just don’t want to be a jerk and throw a 100 posts a day or create a new topic. I honestly predict all of Disneyland will be closed again before we know it and as a result I wanted to think of something modular, something that can be cut back or expanded quickly or gradually, I wanted an idea that benefitted all parties and not just the Mouse House. With this idea you give people a little of what they are craving without nickel and diming them. I get that Disneyland can easily become a beach or a concert in terms of people and crowds but I don’t know of a company in a better position to manage crowds.
1. Count how many go in and out at bag check.
2. Count how many people go in and out of Main Street
3. Count how many people go in and out of Buena Vista Street.
The only thing I could see holding up my project is the legality of permits, certifications and classifications. Disneyland is a theme park, but what are the legal hoops to jump through to get a temporary operating permit for this to happen. So despite great ideas the red tape may not allow any of it to happen.
I still appreciate the support TP. I really do want to work at Disney for a retirement gig, if I make it that long.

A Jon Hamm’s Leather Briefcase awaits you if our paths cross at C33 or at Napa TP2000.

Love your idea @Th3 DUd3. Even if they couldn't get your idea passed, Disney might be able to help out the DT businesses by adding some sort of characters out and about. If not on the street itself, maybe have them waving out the windows on the passing monorail?? That could potentially elevate the area to be "not just another mall". They could also work with a couple of the businesses to have them temporarily sell Dole whips and Mickey balloons. :)

Any chance you can push it back to sometime in September?
Hoping they will be open by then, but someone supposedly in the know has suggested that November is a target month.
I have a hard time believing that...but we shall see.
I'm still positive September will be a go.

:)
