Downtown Disney District Extends to Buena Vista Street

Yeah, this I agree with. I don't think the parks will open fully UNTIL there is real stability and we are far far away from that unfortunately.

But that would take longer than next summer, I would think.

And yeah I agree with you, I'm sad too. I had planned to go to THREE Disney resorts this year (DLR, WDW and TDR)...and I ended up going to none lol. Tokyo and WDW both I haven't been over a decade so very excited to see those again. So it sucks, I agree. But we have to stay positive. The biggest one being when they DO open that you will be healthy and alive to go back along with all your family and friends hopefully. The short term sucks, but that's why I focus on the long term.

But I was mainly talking about opening up in general when I said there will be some normalcy, not the theme parks. As I said I don't see them opening until spring or summer the soonest because that's when they think the majority of the population has been vaccinated. But I put as much trust in that as I do most things I hear from the government these days, meaning none at all. ;)

But that would mean that they wouldn't reopen by fall at the absolute earliest. Or even until 2022.

Then where did your comment on Newsom's hatred of parks come from? Also, I wouldn't expect maybe summer or even fall for reopenings at this point. I believe they want to make it so that there is no chance whatsoever they will ever get sick from this at the parks.

I never once said Newsom hated the parks. Can you quote it?? Because I never said that. Maybe you just confused my post with someone else's.

Sure it's possible, I'm just thinking positively. ;)

But what I'm saying is IF things calms down and the hospitalizations goes down by March along with enough people starting to be vaccinated then you can probably open sooner. But yes are a lot of 'ifs'. So we'll see. It could be next fall.

I don't know why we would have to wait by 2022 though??? AGAIN if what they are saying is true and every American can be vaccinated by the summer then why would they have to wait until 2022? I'm not following your logic here.

Because you said you put no faith in the government.

Huh. You may be right.

But that would seem to just shut down all of Downtown Disney's restaurants entirely. Who would park a half mile away in Simba to wait to go through Security/Medical Screening to then walk to Black Tap or Brennan's to pick up food to walk back the half mile to your car and drive home with it? That's pointless.

Not me lol. I stopped going to DTD pre-virus because it was already a hassle to get into that place. Yeah I can't imagine most of these restaurants staying open just for pick up orders, especially when the point they can charge the crazy prices they do is for the atmosphere. I'm not paying for $20 burget when the one from Carl's Jr will hit the spot at home.

How do you take that to mean I think Newsom hates theme parks???

I'm guessing you're a bit on the younger side? Maybe a teenager.

No, actually, I'm in my 30s.

And apparently, it wasn't you (sorry I suspected you), but rather @TP2000 who claimed Newsom hates theme parks and that he is correct about that. Therefore, the comment still stands about the chance that Newsom will never, ever allow parks to reopen ever again, ever, even with a vaccine and the end of the pandemic.

I think I know what it means. It means that nothing less than a vaccine will allow anything to reopen. And I mean anything. And why wouldn't it? Why only do things by halves when, with a vaccine, you could go back to normal?
What interesting about the vaccine talk is this: we were treated to all these 6 Degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon scenarios. I get sick, I infect some number of people, each of them infect some number etc. They loved to show how this made covid infect a bazillion people in the space of a couple of months.

Now with the vaccine they say: until everyone is vaccinated it's not safe.

They're ignoring is their own logic. If I'm vaccinated I CAN NOT infect some number of people, those people therefore CAN NOT infect some number, etc etc. It doesn't take many vaccinations to curtail any spread significantly.

COVID-19 Vaccines Make Some Health Care Workers Wary : Shots - Health News : NPR

>>So many health care workers are expressing concerns and anxiety about getting COVID-19 vaccines that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says addressing hesitancy in this group is a top priority. A CDC survey, shared at a public meeting of its vaccine advisory committee on Nov. 23, found that 63% of health care workers polled in recent months said they would get a COVID-19 vaccine.

"I'm really hesitant about it," says Kida Thompson, a family physician in El Paso, Texas. Her city is in the middle of a huge COVID-19 surge, and she believes that the broad adoption of a safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine will be key to ending the pandemic. But she's not 100% ready to get one herself. "For the ones of us who are asking questions, there's just a lot of questions," she says.<<

I think this will be the first group that is told "take it or you're fired".

No offense but some guy on a message board claiming someone hates the parks because he doesn't like his policies sudenly makes it a fact. It's his opinion, a very hyperbolic one, but that's all it is.

AFAIK, pre-Covid I don't think I ever heard Newsom talk about trying to close down the theme parks. I'm going to guess nowhere in his campaign did he promise to crush Disney and any other theme park or Iger probably wouldn't have sat on his task force for years Are there any leaked documents or phone calls where Newsom talked bad about Disneyland and how it's a stain on California (well if he was talking about DCA most here would probably nod ;)).

I think the guy is just trying to get a global pandemic under control in the most populous state in the country first and foremost. People can certainly question how he is doing it, but I don't think it's some kind of hidden underhand agenda of trying to run Micky Mouse out of the state. He's also a big sports fan, but you would think he hates sporting events because none of those have returned either based on that logic.

We're all theme park fans here and want to see them open up again. I get why there is so much resentment towards the guy, but get a grip. And I'm on record saying I think they should've at least tried a limited opening on the parks. But that's life.

Hopefully things will improve drastically next year and we can all get back to just hating the executives who run the parks again or how much they suck now but still go every month anyway. As it should be.

I hope things improve, too, but I don't think we can truly go back to the old way of talking bad of Disney executives, much less go back to the parks, before the fall (i.e., almost a YEAR). I really wish I could be mistaken, but so far, I haven't been.
