To all those cheering for Avatar to halt, enjoy the "nothing" you'll be getting instead.
Exactly. People were dancing in the isles when Sounds Dangerous closed and all we were left with was an empty theater. It seems that a $500 million dollar expansion has been pulled off the table and I fear that we will be again left with nothing but an empty table.

I'd rather have nothing than Avatarland.

I love the AK. It's my favorite of the Disney parks. And I would like to see a little more there. But wanting something new isn't the same as wanting anything at all that is new. I want something good and something that fits in with the AK. Avatar doesn't qualify for me. If they brought in a cool Jungle Book singing & dancing show, that would be good. A cool ride would be great.

I'm not really jazzed about Carsland because I'm not a Cars fan. But I think it works at DS. And I don't love the Studios, anyway, so I wouldn't be opposed to whatever they did there.

Also, this announcement that is supposed to be made was not in any way related to the AK.

There was already a Jungle Book show at DAK in the Theater in the Wild.

"If" Avatar does actually get cancelled and they move on to adding a Carsland to DHS then it just proves the indecision of corporate and upper managment in the the WDC Themeparks. The cancellation of Avatarland would also show that they reacted without thought and planning to counteract Potter Fever @ USO. Now, if this Carsland expansion is announced for DHS it would again show the lack of thought and planning and a reaction to cash in on it's current popularity in California. I am in no way saying that adding either or both would not be needed or a true benefit to the parks in which they would be added, but the constant knee jerk reactions with little follow through is almost becoming the norm these days.

I hope everything I typed is completely wrong!

You do realize they already had a singing and dancing Jungle Book show that lasted only a year or so right???

And you do realize Avatar's theme/message of conservation does fit into DAK, just like Kali River Rapids' theme of conservation fits, right?

I'm still confused about the "announcement" part. Is there a place where one can watch it or listen to it, or where it is being liveblogged?

I was always in the camp of "well it's better than nothing I guess". A half hearted "oh ok, well that's kind of underwhelming but we'll see how that turns out" at best. I could at least see potential in the concept if it were backed with creative minds as well as a good budget (neither of which I was confident would be provided). But I definitely would much rather have something else such as a Beastly Kingdom or even Mysterious Island (JTTCOTE), not to mention taking care of lands that I feel need it worse. Or heck, even something new like a Jungle Book flume, elaborate Lion King dark ride, Up ride (plus South America land), or a demolition of dinorama to make a huge POTC-esque flume ride through the many prehistoric eras of the past.

But honestly if this were canned, what would we likely get in its place? I doubt anything major or nothing at all. With the way WDW has been treated lately, seems there's a very good chance that the funds for a big project like this would float right back into the pockets of company heads. Not even re-routed to another major theme park project. I'm certainly no insider like Lee or '74 and the others, I want to be wrong more than anything. But the way WDW has been and continues to be run into the ground, it doesn't inspire confidence that I would be wrong. It's kind of a lose-lose situation.

Signs seem to be pointing to funds being diverted to DHS now that Avatar is spinning its wheels.
Carsland (or parts of it) is in play, along with other potential concepts. A DCA-lite style makeover may be the result.

This is speculation on my part, based on what I'm hearing in the whisper stream. Could be wrong, but I don't think I'm far off. And AA always at Disney, until I see plans I remain less than 100% certain.

If by "realize" you mean "know", then the answer is Yes, of course I know that. And it wasn't bad, but it could have been better. I think it would fit again.

I don't agree that Avatar is a good fit for the AK. I know other people think it is. I'm not saying they aren't entitled to their opinions, I just disagree. I don't want it and would be happier with nothing than something I feel is a bad idea and a bad fit.

Avatarland at DS would be okay. Just not at AK.

If you have a different opinion, you are certainly as entitled to it as I am to mine. :)

Shouldn't Disney be preparing a DCA-full fat style makeover though? Actually shouldn't they be investing capital in all their parks concurrent with other park projects?

You pretty much read my mind. I think that Disney had the money set aside for this project ($500m?) but saw that Avatar was taking too long. The money needs to be spent, so they decided to go with Carsland/DHS instead.

DAK has a conservation theme. Avatar has a conservation theme. How does that not fit exactly? And how do you feel about Kali River Rapids being in DAK? No animals and the basis is conservation. So, if Kali fits, Avatar fits. So, if your opinion is AVATAR'S CONSERVATION THEME DOESN'T FIT IN A PARK WHERE CONSERVATION IS A THEME, then your opinion is misguided. And really only based in your dislike of the movie.

Hey, maybe they'll announce that they're putting AvatarLand into Downtown Disney instead of Hyperion Wharf, with the blue dudes flying around hanging from the bottom of any future Characters of Flight balloons???? Or how about an Avatar Club instead of an Adventurers Club? I don't know, but to me it seems that they have too many of these teaser announcements these days. I seem to remember that they basically used to have one big press day (if any) around anniversary time to make "special" announcements. Now it seems they have things daily...FLASH, WDW announces new plastic drink steins for Gaston's Tavern!

Well they won't be shelling out on that one, that's OLC money. ;)

Not sure who is paying for what exactly, but I'd bet all of the global expansion is at least partly to blame for why WDW is feeling the neglect these days. Only so many Imagineers in the Mouse House, after all.

(Of course, I could totally be wrong here. I'm just speculating.)
