Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be Universal who is looking to unload Marvel Superhero Island. Think about it... Universal now will have to pay royalties to Disney for use of the characters, so why would Disney want to change anything? I do however suspect that Universal will start heavily pursuing a deal with Warner Bros (i.e. DC Comics) to transform Marvel Superhero Island into DC Superhero Island. I would imagine a quick transformation of Hulk into Superman wouldn't be too hard. Turning Spider-Man into Batman would also make a lot of sense. Not sure what Storm Force would become. Maybe The Flash?

Anyway, although I can see Marvel popping up at DHS or MAYBE Tomorrowland, I think it would be a better jumping off point for a future Disney park, perhaps that 5th gate we all want so badly...

I'm sure the whole comic store at DTD is all but a done deal. It would make perfect sense...

Except that DC characters are in Six Flags... People say Universal is Six Flags now.. Imagine if that were to happen???

I'm thinking World's Finest (Batman and Superman) in place of Spider-Man, Dr Doom's Fear-Fall into Darkseid's Tower of Anti-Life, Hulk into Green Lantern (they wouldn't even have to repaint it then) and if it weren't for his obscurity, Red Tornado wouldn't be too bad a Storm replacement, though Flash would make more sense.

What ever Disney has in mind with the Marvel characters will be ok with me, as long as they let Marvel be Marvel and not screw with them.

Yes, we know. P&R carries a separate budget than M&A.
When was the last time M&A spent 4 billion for a M&A? Maybe 2006 with Pixar. Profit is split into different captial expenses. However one project can get less money allocated then others. So in order for M&A to get that much money, something didn't get some money. It is not uncommon for a business use profits from on entity and spend on another.

I am on the fence on this until I see how it will play out. I want to see how much saturation of the characters will be in the parks and where they will be. I do think they can tie into DHS. I would think that Disney would keep them out of the others though.

The main reason I was iffy was the fact that I always thought Six Flags and Universal was a cheapened brand. Since they both used Marvel as thier way to bring people in, I link the characters to cheapness in a way.

Marvel Superhero Island is either going to become Cybertron or Gotham City within the next 5-10 years.

*Sigh*

Six Flags uses DC, not Marvel.

And Universal is far from "cheap".:brick:

Come on, The Flash deserves much better than a teacup ride. It's funny, the superhero that makes the most sense as a high-speed roller coaster, and he's relegated to being the poster boy for Six Flags version of FastPass. Superman and Batman get a coaster at almost every park, with other ones for the Joker, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Nightwing, and even freakin' Bizarro now, but nothing for some of the major heroes like The Flash.

Marvel is a completly different company than disney's past two character acquistions, pixar and the muppets. where pixar/muppets and mickey can go together seemlessly in every park or movie, marvel cannot.

I do wish that disney has worked on the muppets a little more than they have been.

For someone who doesn't like comic books or even read one (and don't start, if I never read one how can I not like it), I think a M&M marriage is wierd (Marvel and the Mouse). While I enjoyed the Iron Man movie and the first two Spiderman's...I don't think Disney and Marvel work together....It might work together profit wise but I don't think that there will be any corporate synergy.

I agree. They just don't go together. It's like dipping oreos in miracle whip.

I am waiting to see how this plays out, but I'm pretty iffy on the whole thing.

I think this is a good deal for Disney even if Marvel characters never make their way into any of the theme parks. Say what you want about Bob Iger, but he has certainly left his mark on the Disney company.

Maybe it just comes down to the fact that it is cheaper to buy marvel then to create a new park or attraction(s) to battle harry potter, what better way to beat your competior then to buy up all their licence rights buy buying the company that owns them.

Checkmate universal... I bet you never saw this one coming.

Disney should have and could have spent that money on it's own theme parks. They need to quit buying other brands. Disney is Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.... They aren't Superman or that Penguin they bought a while ago. Another stupid move and waste of money.

I think there's more to this deal than simply fighting Universal, but even if that does enter into the equation, isn't it sad that Disney's content to buy Marvel instead of building new attractions at WDW? Seems like the guests are getting screwed yet again.
