Yea, but I just mean other than Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, and MAYBE Flash, they don't have characters/brands that are very popular with the general populace.
Compare that to Spider-man, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, the Avengers, Hulk, etc Marvel really beats the pants off them in that department.
Eh...yes and no. It depends on whom you talk to.
As far as comic book fans, yes, there are a lot more popular Marvel heroes just from the sheer numbers of available characters. However, when talking about the general populace, with the exception of Spiderman, X-Men, and now Iron Man (because of the film), Marvel heroes aren't exactly as held in such high regard as cultural icons. It's only recently with the big-scale films that they have started to get brand recognition beyond Spidey.
For example, my grandmother would know who Spiderman was, and may have an inkling of who the X-Men are, but she would know all about Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, et al.
It's also the secondary characters (mainly villians) that DC has a leg up on as well. Even as a pop culture person myself, I can barely name three or four Marvel Villians, whereas to the public at large names like Joker, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, Riddler, etc. are household names.
Personally, I am more a fan of the DC characters, but enjoy the Marvel ones as well and I'm very pleased to hear about this aquisition. As many, I am extremely curious about the ramifications for the use of Marvel in Universals parks. I can't wait for more details on how it will affect them will come out.
