If Disney has plans to completely change not only the ride, but the appearance of the building itself, then it needs to be honest and say the celebration of the magic of movies is dead at that park. Which I don't understand, given Disney's place in movie making history.

Now that the Hat and the temporary stage is gone, or at least it was my last visit, what a view down Hollywood... and I was a fan of the Hat. Frankly, I wish Disney would bring back the concept of a functioning studio. Florida has a very vibrant film industry and is the home of one of the top film schools in the country, along with two other good schools, Ringling and Full Sail.

If I'd been the one making decisions, I would have taken the entire back area, turned it back into functioning studios and tours (like Universal in Hollywood was), kinda what MGM Disney was. Plus, with FSU, Ringling and Full Sail, you have a pipeline for filmmakers and interns. All while enhancing not only the history of Hollywood, but being a prime incubator for future filmmakers who might make Disney Studios some cash down the road. But I guess I'm probably in the minority.

The park is going through a major overhaul, and clearly they are trying to distance themselves from its original studios theming. Removing this ride is sad, since its always been one of my favorites since I first visited WDW, but makes sense going forward. With Toy Story, Star Wars, and eventually a retheme of RnRC and TOT most likely coming in the near future, the park will have a new identity and will be completely reinvented for the future.

Sounds like a pitch for "The New Coke"

Aside from going from one identity crisis to another, a bigger issue is no increase in actual park capacity.
Lets hope that with the retheme of RnRC and TOT we get a 3rd land built behind them based on whatever they are retheming it to (Superhero land) which should add some guest eaters if Disney doesn't take the cheap route like usual.

So as we find out in the preshow, Mickey's late to his own gala premiere (lazy sight gag opportunity: Goofy wearing a Mickey Mouse watch), and we have to travel through Hollywood to get him there on time. On the way, we'll run into some of Mickey's best friends featuring some uninspired Marc-Davis-esque gags, the final scene being a montage of Mickey's greatest moments. Exit through the gift shop featuring Mouse stuff.

So basically RNRC meets Superstar Limo meets Philharmagic meets Main Street Cinema meets Great Movie Ride.

4 and a half minute ride time. Family friendly. An "E" by modern WDI standards.

Like, ok, but someone needs to explain to management that the park needs more rides. Which has been the case since, oh, 1989.
Good guess....
But, from what I know, the whole ride is a trip through Mickey's greatest(ish) hits.
A rare departure from the "something goes horribly wrong" template.

GMR is scoring badly in guest surveys. Though no one seemed to have realised its maybe because the body of the ride has never had a proper update in 27 years.

Yes, this saves money. No new building. No new infrastructure. No exploding bank. No 27 year old ride system. And a fraction of the amount of cast members needed.
I have not been a fan of TGMR for years, especially if they're not running the Cowboy scene.

I am very excited for this idea and welcome it with open arms.

I am so bummed. Really bummed. I thought maybe, just maybe, it would get some TLC after Toy Story and Star Wars came out. I'm a classic film buff (working on the AFI's lists right now), and this attraction was special to me.

Might as well say it, calling dibs on the Singin' in the Rain and Casablanca scenes... If I can't get Rick and Ilsa, I definitely want Gene Kelly.

If this closing of GMR is based on surveys, I would think they should be other attractions in MK that should close other than Stitch. Most of MK park actually.......

GMR is lousy right now but could be updated. I certainly understand the need to add and not replace but in terms of decisions for this park, I'm very much in favor of this one.

As for using surveys to justify things. That's all they're there for. They're not an integral part in the attraction replacement process they're just another way to pitch something.

I still think it would be nice to have the great Disney movie ride... and have show scenes with movies (in a timeline) for popular or well known movies including some not represented at the parks currently. Steamboat on up - last scene could be changed with video of some of the latest movies that year or currently playing (which would help promote as well)

sorta like the Disney history movie ride
