Disney is apparently claiming the gingerbread man mascot for the event is the "first original character created for WDW since Figment"

lol, lmao
I feel terribly sorry for the Spectromen

These poor fellas are currently living in Wasteland alongside other forgotten Disney Characters since late 2010.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Buzzy, Sonny Eclipse, Timekeeper, Skippy, Waldo, ect be considered original characters as well? This company. I can't.
Waldo debuted in The Jim Henson Hour prior to Muppet-Vision (which was later shown at DCL) while Timekeeper would appear at Disneyland Paris.

That claim is definitely confusing - they must mean Park Mascots specifically, or something. Disney certainly hasn't created enough parks-specific original characters since Figment, but it would be wrong for them to say they've created none.

Also, why would they think in either case that would be a point of pride? You should absolutely be in the business of regularly creating fun new characters for your guests to enjoy, Disney.

Adding Daryl to the list of park characters made after Figment. Being generous and presuming they're only allowing cartoony ones, otherwise they also forgot Seeker, Marsh, Chester, and Hester (who I would call vague enough to not count if they didn't have meetable versions).

Edit; AND THE MERRY MENAGERIE!

They have shorts on the Tree of Life, they should count.

And the Phineas and Ferb line is 2 hours long.

It’s the only ‘unique’ offering for characters. Everyone else could be found in HS this past summer. Heck, what do Rescue Rangers or Powerline Max have to do with 1920s Hollywood at all? And why are the Six’s costumes so poorly themed outside of kinda Minnie? The whole thing feels all over the place. Mickey looks like I’d find him on a Jersey boardwalk scamming me in a carnie game.

Hopefully the sign can be a tax write off, as I don't see this event returning next year.

I don’t think they’ll quit on this after just one year. Maybe a large retool to give it one more go and see if the obvious issues can be resolved.

It became a miss as soon as management figured out their fans will pay for anything! And the fans did.

A lot of people were waiting for tonight before purchasing. I don’t see the reviews selling any extra tickets at all.

Nice try, but I don’t think the Spectromen were ever considered Disney Characters. And they sure didn't look the part after Spectro's refresh in 2007!

JBJB! Looks better than I thought. Nice to see more Pyro from the Chinese Theater!

Not being present of this event, the wait times were as good as it gets. Slinky was hovering 10-20 mins every time I checked. They should also put Rise on standby or allow for multiple VQ entries.

The event has potential but some of the logistics stuff has to be sorted out.

I think the big issue is they factored in the draw of low wait times as a reason to go - but this event is way more targeting to locals and adults having like a date night, etc that are there for the entertainment, the food, the drinks, etc vs the rides.

So you have like 80% of the people focused on 30% of the offerings and it became a mess.

Maybe they should go like full in on a "food and wine" type structure, lower the attendance cap, include the food and a drink, and charge like $249/person or something
