We love the ducks. We have a running joke about how Mr and Mrs Duck are on vacation like us.

That's another thing. If ducks are swimming in the pool it's just gross because you know they aren't hopping out to go use the ducky potty when nature calls. :lookaroun

I don't mind the ducks at all.In fact last year at Epcot one of the female mallards walked up to me as I had some McDonalds fries. It just stared at me and so I fed it a few fries and it went away happy and my brother took some good pics of the whole meeting.

I like having the ducks around, and cranes, and squirrels, etc. I don't usually feed them, but since people do, they continue to pester folks for more. But I like seeing them up close.

Now, we all know that ducks are abundant in WDW. Do they really annoy you? Do you mind? Do you LIKE having them around?

I remember last summer, when my brother and I were at Flametree BBQ. They were everywhere in the seating area, making my brother really uncomfortable. They were relentless- going under chairs, and being generally crazy.

Thoughts on the ducks?

I love the ducks, they have every right to be there and to exist.

The problem you and your brother had was a result of dumb ignorant people feeding the ducks. Ducks arent meant to eat popcorn or pieces of sandwiches or fries. This practice results in the Ducks being dependent on humans for food and they lose the instinct of finding their own food. Ask a Disney conservation member at Animal Kingdom!

I've never had a problem with the ducks. The squirrels, however, are a different story. Especially at McDs at DtD. We were sitting outside once and I was getting more and more annoyed with this woman who was encouraging her little girl to feed a squirrel that was hanging around.

Well, the squirrel jumped on the little girl's leg and all of a sudden all heck broke loose! My DH had his hand clamped over my mouth to stop me yelling "serves you right!"

I've actually stopped watching Home Video programmes because I get too annoyed at the videos of the people feeding animals like bears and monkeys at the safari park and then freaking out when they try to get in the car.

I absolutely love the ducks. I think it's great to watch them walk around, and just totally be relaxed and normal. My wife probably gets as much of a kick out of the ducks as she does the attractions. She could walk around Disney all day with her camera, and only end up taking pictures of ducks. :)

Haha this sounds like my wife. There is something charming about seeing a duck followed by several baby ducks while walking through the Animal Kingdom

Those would be rodent traps. They must be working though because I've yet to see a single rat. Now a Mouse, yes. :animwink:

Saw one 2 weeks ago run accross the path infront of us in Hollywood Studios near those bathrooms in the Hub that are attached to the AIE building... YucK!

EDIT: A rat that is...I see ducks all the time, but this was the first time I had seen a Rat in any of the parks!

The ducks don't really bother me, its usually the other 30+ small birds who divebomb you when you try to eat a meal outside. I remember on one of our trips we were sitting at an umbrella table at Carribean Beach eating breakfast and we had 2 small birds who kept flying under the umbrella and sitting on the support bars above our heads waiting for food. I kept having to shoo them away, my wife was freaking out cause they kept skimming her head to get under there.

Personally I love the ducks and the other wildlife in WDW but I don't feed them. As many others have pointed out the number one reason wild animals become a problem to humans is when the associate them with food.

To put it politely I do not care for the ducks, especially when you are trying to eat your lunch. I see plenty of ducks back home, so it means very little to me that they are infesting the parks.

I love them, as long as I am not sat down at Flame Tree Barbecue trying to eat my lunch!

They can be extremely annoying on that area of the park. I am always afraid one of them will attack my food, and they stare at you in a really creepy manner.

Never had a problem with the ducks. they always provided entertainment while waiting for illuminations. People who feed them create there own problems and entertainment for us. Its the litttle birds that get us, but oh well.

We just got back from our stay at the Wilderness Lodge and those ducks are fearless of people. They swam in the pool when it was filled with people. We decided to have luch outside and they literally were walking on/over our feet to scrap some food, there was one duck that just stood there like a dog would waiting for scraps. The kids thought they were cute at first and then when a bird literally swooped down and stole one of my daughter's frenchfries from her plate, we decided it was time to move lunch inside. They're a pain but nothing nearly as bad as the HUGE snake I saw at the WL.

I think they are great ... as long as people obey the rules and don't feed them. I like all the wildlife, especially the lizzards, at WDW.

I too have seen those large snakes at the WL ... I think they are cottonmouths. I usually see them going under the walkways out to the boat launch. I don't mind them but the better half is scared to death of them. :D

I feel sorry for the ducks! With all the food people insist on feeding them at the parks, it's amazing you don't see them dying in the middle of WDW all the time.

I was totally appalled on my most recent trip at the number of parents who encouraged their children to feed ducks pizza, shrimp, fries, etc. The worst two were the parents who said "Oh honey, don't feed the ducks until you finish your food first." She said she wasn't hungry and thye were like, "Oh, okay, just let the ducks have the rest then (she was eating pizza and fries!) The other worst was a parent who was yelling at his crying son, who was afraid of the ducks, because the son would not feed the ducks out of his hand! I believe the dad was feeding him Doritos. Had a pretty difficult time keeping my mouth shut with that one!
