Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

I'm not from the US so I never cared about the parks, but as a Disney fan I'm absolutely devastated by what Bob Iger did to this company.
Turning their backs on hand drawn animation, Disney's biggest legacy, and then doing mostly just pointless remakes with no passion behind them, more sequels, focusing on franchises, focusing only on grossing billions so there's no risk taking and no innovation anymore. It hasn't been detrimental to Disney alone, but to Hollywood entirely. Most movies are basically the same now, they even added irreverent "MCU humor" to Lilo and Stitch now.

Unless you have enough money to keep the parks profitable on your own, it doesn’t matter what you or I think. It’s what the majority of people think and the sentiment has been increasingly negative for years now.

But maybe those people are just loud. Since demand for Disney theme parks, movies, video games etc says otherwise.

Some early “unofficial” reviews from people who’ve reportedly seen the film are starting to pop up, the seven bandits are reportedly the Prince’s sidekicks, similar to how the seven dwarfs are Snows sidekicks. Early “unofficial” reviews are also generally positive overall, will be interesting to see the official reviews once the embargo is lifted.
I just listened to the soundtrack, and it's really good. I don't want to get my hopes up only for the script and performances to ruin them. But honestly, it's the best soundtrack for a live-action adaptation— it even reminds me, in a good way, of the songs from the classic Barbie movies.

Don't worry, it will pick up soon.

The past month has been the late winter doldrums, since Captain America 4 flamed out fast after a rather dismal opening.

We just haven't had much box office news to discuss. But in a week we'll have the Snow White premiere weekend, and then we'll be off to the races again on Disney box office talk, with hard facts and Cherry Picked 🍒 data to back it all up! :)

Until then, here's a few fun Snow White nuggets today from industry media watchers...

Here’s another one bemoaning the anticipated failure of this movie by Disney from the left (and see if you can spot the absolutely abhorrent re-characterization and framing of a hot button issue in this diatribe)

There are any number of reasons why an actor isn't in the next big blockbuster, being blackballed by Hollywood for whatever reason some here think is probably 1000th on the list.
Totally agree. The point I was making, and I get it, I don't know what's for sure going through their mind. Is that the overwhelming majority got into it for the fame and lifestyle. That doesn't mean I think they don't love acting. But I can't see many wanting the scrutiny and lack of privacy and all that goes with it unless they want the fame and lifestyle. I'm sure there's some because it's never everyone or no one.

Completely wrong…and a total misunderstanding of how consumer economics work.

It’s a relationship…not commands from the supplier
Correct… it is a relationship…. And if your partner does not make you happy anymore…. You break up… unless you are addicted to the toxic relationship

If enough people move on…. Maybe said company will change course

There is this old, worn-out saying: "Get Woke, go broke".

This notion has been peddled for several years now we have thoroughly debunked it on these forums over and over again. Disney does NOT need to be concerned with this phrase and it's idea because it has been 100% proven wrong. Disney should not and will not be altered by any fear of this silly idea.

The new thing now is: "Snow White is going to flop because it's Woke". I'm certain this is FAR from the case. "Snow White" was the character that started the Disney studios and is very much an evergreen IP. The movie is going to be a huge success. Even if it slips a little bit, it won't be because it's "Woke". It will more likely be because of where they placed it in the spring movie season. This should have been marketed in the summer "blockbuster" months with a higher marketing budget. Even still, this movie is going to be an excellent box office performer.

We really need to end this "Get Woke, go broke" trope that somehow just won't dei. It's insulting and just not factually true in 2025.
Quoting for posterity.

This is the kind of nonsense post that got the Snow White thread shut down. Are you going for two?
As a matter of fact yes, I will be seeing it twice in the theater. Burbank worked VERY hard on this movie and put a ton of extra attention into it to get it right. I support Burbank efforts with this movie and will buy two tickets for it.

Or you can vent about what’s bothering you and salvage what’s an otherwise good relationship.

Disney is like the husband who’s leaving his clothes on the floor, leaving the toothpaste cap off, not taking the trash to the curb, etc. Nothing that’s divorce worthy but annoying as heck to his partner none the less.

If everyone got a divorce the second their partner did something that bothered them there wouldn’t be a single married couple left on the planet.

How much is disney promoting early ticket sales? I just took a look through the available seats at the Irvine Spectrum for thurs through Sat next week and there's like, 20ish people with seats across the formats for those 3 days... total.

Perhaps people aren't aware the film is coming out?

I was surprised they're releasing it in IMAX. Doesn't seem to warrant it?

But the husband won’t change unless he wants to. Complaining nonstop to the neighbors won’t help and the neighbors get sick of hearing it and move away.

I am fine with venting on grievances…. There are items within Disney I wish they would change course…. I was responding to someone who said everything Disney does is of poor quality
