Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

To me, my relationship with Disney is 100% pure transactional. I have DEEPLY loved their products ever since I was 12 years old and since then I have spent massive amounts of money on Disney products because of that. Disney used to make EXCELLENT products. In recent years, I have not enjoyed their products and I have drastically cut the money I used to spend because of that reason.

The money I spend on Disney is directly based on how much I desire their products. I have no "loyalty" to Burbank and Burbank certainly has no loyalty to me as a customer.

Simply said: If Burbank makes something I'm attracted to, I'll buy it. If they don't?...I'll spend my money elsewhere.

That is the only relationship I have with Burbank.
This is well-said. No one should be spending money on something that makes them unhappy.

The common threads are probably that they love acting…or just have a talent for it…and they enjoy the recognition and more money than Elon could blow in a week…

What doesn’t wash is younger, not well established actors don’t want the last parts…

If they don’t want it…they kinda semi-retire like Julia stiles or Kiera nightly did of sorts back in their days. Jodie foster comes to mind as well. Daniel day Lewis.

Is Daisy sitting under a tree reading Shakespeare now?

…she could be
There is much more emphasis on work-life balance these days than there used to be - at least from my observations and experience.

The vast majority of us have no problem not spending money on things like movies that don’t make us happy, and that’s becoming a problem for Disneys box office.

That’s a completely different topic than saying we don’t like Disney though, most of us still love the parks, DCL, the resorts, and even many of the movies, we just dislike many of the individual decisions the company is making.

So Daisy Ridley and everybody’s favorite niece Halle are on sabatical now?

Or upon quick review…

Is one airing her baby daddy drama on twitter and the other one doing a bad low budget Australian zombie movie and pumping Kathy Kennedy’s tires on a movie she will star in that is a guaranteed bomb? But it won’t get made anyway

Just after a quick search…and just to be clear…those things were going on yesterday

Sounds very tranquil and zen 🧘🏼

There is this old, worn-out saying: "Get Woke, go broke".

This notion has been peddled for several years now we have thoroughly debunked it on these forums over and over again. Disney does NOT need to be concerned with this phrase and it's idea because it has been 100% proven wrong. Disney should not and will not be altered by any fear of this silly idea.

The new thing now is: "Snow White is going to flop because it's Woke". I'm certain this is FAR from the case. "Snow White" was the character that started the Disney studios and is very much an evergreen IP. The movie is going to be a huge success. Even if it slips a little bit, it won't be because it's "Woke". It will more likely be because of where they placed it in the spring movie season. This should have been marketed in the summer "blockbuster" months with a higher marketing budget. Even still, this movie is going to be an excellent box office performer.

We really need to end this "Get Woke, go broke" trope that somehow just won't dei. It's insulting and just not factually true in 2025.

Someone get that man a Bud Light! 🍺

So we should just leave, huh? 😎

Going further, nobody should spend money and be loyal to a brand because they used to make products you loved in the past. Those days are long gone.

It seems to me that Disney fans love the brand MUCH more than the people in Burbank love their fans. We need to see Burbank the exact same way they see us today.

Exactly…which means the relationship is “unbalanced”…and it needs a correction like everyone’s 401K

(…too soon?)

I just saw a commercial for Snow White and I am going to say something controversial.

The commercial looks GOOD! For the "normal" person (not Disney fanatics here) a normal person not knowing anything about the movie, if commercials like the one I saw, can get the normal folks to buy tickets, it does not matter how bad the movie is, at least initially, until the word gets to the normal folks.

That's probably true, given the number of people who complain and still go to Disney movies and parks. Some correction is definitely going on there.

But don't forget the large numbers who buy Disney products because they love them the way they are now.
