Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Why should we care about the numbers? It appears Disney doesn’t 😉

Disney will make movies. Some will make money, some will lose money, some will break even.

No matter what we say, Disney will continue to do what they do.

It feels like, to Disney, making movies is a cost of doing business and sometimes they can make some money.

It’s beyond the graphs….the graphs are the easy part.

And we have this fun “private” section here too. Maybe that’s where the real discussion goes when people tire of seeing little mermaid declared a hit when all evidence says otherwise…and it fizzled like a firecracker bought from the dollar store
Ah yes, the "private" areas where anyone can say anything was said without any proof, even if it contradicts what is said by the same poster out in the public forum. So forgive me if I don't believe anything anything you say about a poster who publicly states they don't really watch modern movies and is no expert in anything about the box office.

Nothing nonsensical about numbers

See that’s the problem…when data isn’t accepted the “counter” is a bout of fake amnesia or the ever useless “well I liked it…so therefore my opinion is all that matters”
Or the even more useless "Well I hated it so that means everyone else must hate it too so only my opinion matters no matter how much data is shown otherwise".

Maybe in your neck of the woods, boss

But for others it’s where honest discussions with the good and the bad happen?

Which is “reality” in your dictionary

If something can't be said out in the public forums, then maybe its not worth discussing. Also if someone claims one thing out in public forums but says something completely different that contradicts that in private I wouldn't trust that person. You don't know what the truth really is, ie they are insincere and deceitful.

Who ever says that?

And see the previous post

Only the mass/mainstream counts
Plenty of posters who discuss how they hate modern Disney and their management. And mass appeal does count which is why we have these box office discussions, so when you have a film that does well but still have posters saying that no one liked it you can tell they only care about their opinion.

Well I hate their management…it’s a clown show of compiling mistakes and showing what not to do based on their own History…

But that is NOT hating Disney. It’s the opposite.

There will be less bickering around here when the “standard” doesn’t fall into the “cheerlead or hate” factions

Then why do you post here?

That's the response to anyone posting "why does it even matter?"

It seems, it matters to you.

One only need read his movie-related posts, as I have been for over a year now, to know that experience in commenting does not an expert make. We've seen evidence of this phenomenon every day on cable news for years now, too. Don't assume that just because someone likes to comment on a topic, it means that they know anything about the topic.
When he first started posting about 'the biz,' he clearly knew next to nothing.

When we showed him where to find the stats, he cherry picked them to make Disney look bad, even going on a posting spree the year Disney's movies weren't doing well.

Then, in the year Disney movies were doing very well... a lot of silence.

Until he smelled blood in the water regarding Mufasa.

Some expert.

Lol…

What’s the charts tell you about Disney Star Wars?

…it shouldn’t be this easy

To nitpick: there are plenty of valid points that simply can’t be made in this forum because of forum rules. Political points, perhaps most notably.

More private groups could be quite fun.

I remain blissfully unaware. Highly recommend!

Not any more.

For a time I did have an interest in the numbers, but the fact is, we have no idea how much it costs to make a movie; a movie budgeted for X dollars does not mean it cost X dollars to make, it could have gone over budget, we have NO IDEA how much the marketing cost are, we have an idea how much of the box office goes back to Disney, we have no idea how much a movie makes from other sources of income like merch, etc.

I will glance at the numbers going forward for entertainment value only,

So I will say if I like a movie or not (if that's ok)

If the movie makes money OK if the movie does not make money OK.

I post here because its fun especially when the Penguin replies to one of my posts. ;)
