Disney After Hours was great!

My family of 4 are super excited about the Disney After Dark event at MK on 7/14. We also are going to Moonlight Magic at Epcot on 7/16. We saw the value in spending the additional money for the 7/14 event for several reasons. It is July, so that means heat, crowds, long lines, and we just really love the parks more at night. We use to attend e-ticket nights and figured we would give this shot. The price is definitely an issue for a lot of people, but we have vacationed in lots of other places, and I feel Disney parks are quite a value for what you get in entertainment.

About 15 minutes for Astro Orbiter thanks to how the queue is setup. I think Peter Pan was listed at 20.
For us, Peter Pan was a walk on, the coolest part was that we’ve never seen the standby queue so I asked the CM if we could see it. She pointed us on our way and we were alike to spend 10 minutes all by ourselves in the queue. It was amazing! The interactive shadows were incredible! We liked it so much were even considering standing in standby with our kids just so they can experience the queue!

We did the same thing and got great pics. We were the only people in the queue area the entire time. Our longest wait was Tomorrowland Cars (still a fave of our kiddo’s). We waited about 10 mins. We rode somethings multiple times without getting off, sometimes the only family on the ride, like Dumbo and Little Mermaid. We never found the popcorn. Where was it at?

I so often get amazed at how a happy topic, about a personal experience, get turned into grumbling “cash grab!!” topic from people who have never done whatever ‘cash grab’ in question.

News Flash- any non-essential item in life is technically a “cash grab”. Yet we still spend money on non essential items and entertainment which makes us enjoy life a little bit more than than with out said item/experiences. :)
Agree. If you don’t want to do it or if you have personal convictions for not doing it then don’t. Why bring others down about it if it is something that may work for them?

Did you miss the part where it went that way - by choice - because of bad humor attempted stupidity that ignores the context??

Wait...I withdraw the question from you, Stamps

If you don’t want the “happy” brought down...don’t try to be sarcastically cute like sophomore year...lesson to all.

I wasn’t being sarcastic. Was just pointing out the obvious. :)

Not you...ole Cap, stock watch extraordinaire, threw a match on pile of wood that wasn’t in need of a spark...
Normally that doesn’t really get called out. But you can’t claim people are starting stuff 95% of the time, stick your keyboard in your mouth...and start stuff.

There is zero doubt that “after hours magic” is a tactic that puts a crush on the customers. Those that Buy it and those that are in the park before it.

It matters not to me...but don’t trivialize your fellow consumer.

I agree- we had a great time at the one in January! My parents went to the one Saturday night and loved it. They said they were expecting it to feel like MK did back when I was little and things were way less busy. They were pleasantly surprised that it was even better than that!

I can understand some of the complaints and was a bit skeptical when I purchased our tickets. Having experienced it though, I would absolutely pay to do it again.

I think DAH would be perfect for a semi “non-park” day-hang out at your resort, go swimming, explore the resort, check out the gift shops, have some dinner, then head to MK for 3 hours of walk-on rides. If you got a regular park ticket for MK, getting the DAH ticket doesn’t make much sense-you’re spending well over $200 per person when chances are you’ve hit most, if not all, attractions during the day.

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly does DAH work? What I mean is:

1) do you need a separate park pass or hopper pass and then have to buy the DAH ticket on top of that, or is the DAH ticket all you need?
2) is the DAH ticket linked to your magic band just like a regular park ticket?
3) how do they ensure that the people without the DAH ticket are cleared out of the park before DAH begins?

Thanks in advance for all of the insight! It’s much appreciated!

That's my thing. MK, for me personally, is more than just riding everything. It's enjoying the scenery, food, entertainment, etc. To each their own, of course, but four hours in MK would not be enough for me, personally. I'm already a little worried about going to MNSSHP for 8 hours because we aren't planning a sit-down dinner and prob won't have the same amount of time to enjoy everything. I'm hoping the lines are shorter and we can ride the same amount of rides but, again, for me, MK is more than just the rides.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

But on many of those days the Halloween/Christmas parties are crushed with crowds...they feel more slammed than a normal busy day.

They’ve oversold them...whatever “limit” they enforce now - it’s too high.

Since the price is now $100 and the crowds are not light...I can’t really see myself going back. A lot different than $35 in light crowds circa 2001...but many things are.

I hope you have a not crowded day booked...because I hate people to get little value out of there upsells.

The last Halloween party I went to - in Disneyland - was probably the worst day in a Disney park. But there’s a different dynamic there...so your chances are better.

HAHA well we were hesitant to celebrate Halloween in August but everyone said to try the Party bc it's so much fun. We were going to go to MK that week anyway so we're going to see what it's all about! Enjoy the Lodge!!

I do like the parties for the changes they make...very neat.

It’s just the crowds...my last was in 2010 in October 28th when it was 90 degrees at 10 pm...

So bad juju for me there.

We were at a Christmas one on November 10 in 2014 and it looked like it was free beer Friday.

To each their own...I’m done.

They used to stay until midnight.

Or even later at times. And it wasn't even that long ago really.

Ironically, as a passholder, I would go to the parks for the last 3 hours on a Summer night because everything was walk on during the parades/fireworks, etc., and it didn't cost me anything extra.

As I explained in my original post, I am not bothered by anybody who purchases a ticket for this. That is your decision, and perhaps good value to you personally. However, in my view and based on my experience as a 15 year local passholder, this is great for Disney and not so great for the broader consumer base.
