Disappointed with very few fun room displays at Pop this year

We were really disappointed that we only had one fun room display done for us during our entire stay at Pop this year.

My kids always look forward to returning to the room after a day at the parks to see what the room looks like.

My hubby actually called the front desk to ask if we could get more displays done.

We did leave a tip for the display that was done.

Our mousekeeper was very nice - she tried to be helpful by giving us a cute elephant that was made from washcloths. We thanked her, but it just wasn't the same as having the room done when you're not there.

I think they had a change in their mousekeepers crew & I know that when they are new, they have to attend a class to learn how to make the displays.

We were just kind of disappointed, that's all. :(

Correction: My hubby informed me that he did not call the front desk. He had to go to the front desk to check on something else & he just asked them if they still did the displays. They replied that the mousekeepers who had been to the class usually did them & they had a towel animal sent to our room. He didn't ask for one. Sorry about the confusion. :)

While not quite sure what you are referring to (I've stayed on site several times and have only ever come away with towel animals so I'm not sure what a room display is...). Maybe you have gotten lucky in the past perhaps with an over-the-top mousekeeper.

And you just have to keep in mind that the staff has a lot to do and to count your blessings that you even got towel animals! I've been many many times and out of all of my trips only had two instances of returning to towel animals so just keep that in mind!

And next time don't focus on it so negatively and try to get someone to do it for you. I know Disney is great with guest service but the main purpose of mousekeeping is to clean the rooms so be thankful you had a clean room! :p Instead focus on the great time your spending with your family and all the fun waiting for you at the parks!

Edit: I reread this and just want to say I hope it doesn't come off rude. I was really just trying to say to not focus on it so negatively because it is an extra perk that you once had and focus more on the great time you're getting to spend at the parks once again!

I've stayed in WDW resorts I don't know how many times, and I've never gotten a "display" in my room. I did have ONE mousekeeper who used to put my son's plush Komodo in odd places, if that's what a display is? I've also gotten a few towel animals over the years.

I expect the mousekeepers to clean my room; no more, no less. I would never call the front desk to ask why the housekeeper wasn't doing something above and beyond what one would expect at any other hotel.

Now, if the bathroom was dirty....

I can understand the disappointment. However, two things jump out at me.

1, you shouldn't call the front desk about this. Sorry, that seems a bit extreme. If your room was not cleaned, then by all means call the desk. But I can't imagine what they must've thought when someone called to complain that their room was lacking towel animals...sorry...

2, the tip isn't for "displays," it is for their work. Their work = cleaning. Anything extra is great, but in case you haven't noticed, it is tough times for many people right now. These mousekeepers may be under an extra time crunch because Disney is cutting back work hours for them...who knows.

We've never really had any "displays" in our rooms...from Values to Deluxe. It's nice to see but won't make or break our trip. I hope it didn't totally ruin your trip and hopefully next time you can not sweat the small stuff

We have had some very cute displays in the window with our DD's stuffed Disney toys awaiting our return before and we were very pleased. We didn't expect them though, it was just an added bonus. We, of course made sure that we tipped a little extra that day to say thank you and mentioned it in it our thank you note that we always leave each day for the Mousekeeping staff. Disney rooms are some of the cleanest and I am just really thankful for that, these guys do an awesome job! Anything else is an extra magic. :)

Wait...you actually called down to the desk to complain that there weren't enough towel animals, etc left in your room?!

Mousekeepers are there to keep the place clean, not to entertain the guests.
Anything else is icing on the cake. In all the years that we have been staying in WDW hotels we've only ever had 3 instances where we have gotten a "display" of any kind. Leaving a tip has nothing to do with it, the mousekeepers schedule and expertise in making those towel animals do.

Did you know that you can buy books and learn how to make them at home?

No, that's fine. :)
I guess I was comparing this experience to our other recent trips.

It sounds like the OP experienced cute displays daily on her 2007 trip to Pop (which I believe was her first stay there), which is why she thought it would be that way again this year. I can understand that.

I don't think she realizes that most mousekeepers do not do this, but now she will for next time. We've never even had one single towel animal during any of our WDW stays.

As far as calling the front desk, we have no idea if her husband complained or simply inquired about it.

I was very satisfied w/ our mousekeeper...she was great!

My kids always take alot of Disney stuffed animals & during our last couple of trips, the mousekeeper has set up displays for us. For example, on our first trip, she made it look as if they were lounging by a pool - it was so cute!
The people at the front desk & our mousekeeper were all very accomodating & nice.
Our mousekeeper explained to us that she had not attended the special class for that yet.
Oh, I forgot...she did make a cute toothbrush holder for the kids out of the washcloths too.

No, it didn't ruin the trip at all.
The only reason why we called to check on having some done for our room is because our kids were asking about them & it is what we have received in the past at moderate & value resorts.
We asked nicely & the front desk person was very nice & said that they would take care of us.
I feel that a bigger tip should be given when someone goes at least a little beyond what is expected, but that is just my opinion.
I can only imagine how hard the mousekeepers work.
I think most people are feeling the economic crunch these days.
Thanks for sharing!

It wasn't the nature of the call to me...it was the subject of the call. Which was towel animals. I would imagine they are pretty busy at the front desk and likely didn't appreciate a call about towel animals. Not a huge deal, just felt it wasn't appropriate or likely appreciated.

Anywayyy I do hope your next trip is filled with excessive and varied towel animals!

Our mousekeeper was the one who mentioned the class.
I would not have had time to make them myself - I was on vacation! :D
Thanks!

Yes, we just asked.
We didn't complain.
I would only complain if it was actually something serious enough to complain about.
You are right, I was just going on my most recent WDW experiences.
Thanks!

The displays not only include towel animals, but they will incorporate your own stuffed animals too!

When our sons were young and they brought their stuffed animals, they never asked why the mousekeeper didn't put them somewhere different. But they would always, as well as the DW and I would, be pleased to find that they decided to have some fun with them while they made up the room, we actually came back one day to find them all in the window waiting for us to return sitting on one of the chairs with the curtains behind them and a small sign saying we missed you!

Our first trip DS put together some Lego we bought for him and the next day they were quite artistically displayed in our window when we returned from the parks. He was initially upset they had had the gall to touch his Lego!

After I explained that they were trying to make his vacation more fun by setting stuff up to welcome him back to the room he was pleased. I'm glad the Mousekeeper wasn't there to hear his initial reaction though! He was 5 and his Lego was, and is, very important to him.

I've noticed a big change in Mousekeeping over the last few years. I attributed it to increased workload per staff (don't know for sure). They used to do cute things like arrange our kids stuffed animals. Once, we came back to find our son's stuffed dog propped up with the TV remote control under his paw watching a Pluto cartoon! It was soooo cute and really impressed us.

Lately, although we tip daily, we don't see the same extras. Our room is clean and tidy and we occasionally get a towel animal (now only washcloth animals or toothbrush holder), but that's OK. I liked the extra attention to detail, but our sons are older now so it doesn't mean as much to them anymore.

But we still talk about finding the stuffed dog watching a Pluto cartoon - and that was in 2003!

We took pics of the ones that were set up for us on our other trips.
It is fun to remember the kids' reactions to such fun little things.
I guess we just thought that this was a regular thing since we received it on our trips on 2006 & 2007.
The mousekeepers are probably overworked.
I did appreciate the clean room & they were all very friendly during our visit.

During our last trip to WDW we stayed at All Star Movies. Our nephew and neice got really excited about they were going to find in the room when we got back each evening.
The Mousekeepers had always arranged the stuffed toys and towel decorations and the kids just loved it.

I was hoping it would happen for our first trip with our own DDs next year when we will be staying at POP. If it doesn't happen I won't get too upset as I am sure it will be a magical trip anyways but it would be nice.
