DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

For the show that make sense. For the stage that strikes me as rather more challenging. Either way this one is supposed to be back before the end of the year so it's hardly in the same category as removing attractions.

Disney is a multi billion dollar corporation, They HAVE the money to do this kind of thing yet they spend like a nearly bankrupt mom-n-pop organization. But no they would rather dump billions into mergers which immediately lose value.

Yes they're a publicly traded corporation. Which means everything bows to the quarterly earnings report. Expecting them to act any other way is pointless.

So for all my construction minded friends, if this was an entirely new set that was built behind the scenes and put in place when the show was ready? What are we looking at realistically? A few days closure at most? Same question for my entertainment types, What do you think? Also a few days at most? No need to take the show out for a few months that I can see. Marie

Yet TPWMNBN does it and brings new park assets online quickly and at far lower cost and their revenue numbers are much tastier than TWDC's numbers. Since Iger took over TWDC has had their stock price artificially pumped by the massive buyback program since Iger took over TWDC has bought back nearly 29% of their outstanding shares.

If they had not done that all the metrics which count on the street would be nearly a third lower and the street would be calling for Iger's head. Todays TWDC is all about financial engineering not products and services.

That's what I just said.

Except I'm also saying that is actually true of all companies floated on the stock exchange. If other companies appear to be doing more it's only because they get a more direct ROI that makes it easy to justify.

You don't have to like it, but I doubt you're going to change it.

Disney has the lowest CAPEX as a percentage of revenue in the themed entertainment industry and they lag their competitors by 25%, SixFlags is next lowest and they are spending 12.9% of revenue on growth capex. Yes Disney is at the bottom of the spending heap, Yet they have one of the LARGEST stock buyback programs of any public company. Can you say 'Financial Engineering'

It depends on the type of work that needs to be done to the actual stage itself. Does it new electrics, effects, etc.

I don't know if it's been said here before, but the WDW website is showing "No times available" for the hours of One Man's Dream starting on January 3rd.

But literally NONE of the attractions (save for some large things like Fantasmic) have operating hours after January 2. I don't think that really means much yet.
All the "big" attractions at DHS have hours. These 4 do not though. You may be right. I would be overjoyed if OMD stayed, but I don't know if it will.

Imagine if SWL at WDW wasn't in Hollywood Studios and was in Magic Kingdom...

Such an odd spot for it. You have lands based on a common theme (Tomorrowland- future, Fantasyland- fantasy, etc.) and then an entire land based on one IP. I can only imagine the uproar there would be on this forum if SWL was going into Magic Kingdom instead of the mishmash park that needs it (DCA and HS)

Hopefully the placement of SWL in Disneyland means that there's a nice chunk of land in DCA being set aside for a Marvel land..... Maybe then U.S. Marvel fans can experience superhero attractions without flying abroad to Hong Kong or wherever

Nooooooooope.

And yes, Marvel is supposed to be coming to DCA. That was supposed to be announced at D23 but they went with SW instead. Probably an attempt to stop the stock plunge.

As for the locals discussion, I cant speak for the parks, but I would argue that the Disney Springs revival is a huge commitment to the local community. Granted, it is geared at getting you to spend your money, but I don't' see how a large retail space, contemporary bowling alley and movie theaters attract guests who are there for a limited time and should really be in the parks. Add in some of the retail that IMO is not something I am spending money on while on vacation. Plus, who needs a parking structure that large when you are pushing your guests to use the magical express? I'd say DS is 80% focused on the locals.
Sure, Disney Springs will appeal to a large contingent of locals. But having visited Disney World for 40 years, DD was often the place to visit on day of arrival (who wants to waste an entire day's park ticket when your plane arrives at 5 p.m.). Similarly, a place to visit for one final shopping spree on the day of departure.

Nope many would ignore it because of the IP

I wasn't trying to insinuate that they were making Dis Springs for locals only, but more that they were including more retail and entertainment options that many vacation guests would not normally need. Therefore making it more appealing for locals day-to-day. As a visitor I don't need Uggs, Perfume, or high class casual clothing. However, there is still a bunch of gift shop type stores to keep vacationers coming back

I looked into the above mentioned closures and it looks like Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Playground has no times after October 17th. Thoughts, insight, comments?
