DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

Small update on Phase 3 following a brief conversation that renewed my interest in the project. While the project is very likely to occur as it has already been budgeted money and multiple acres, there are several options being developed, of which Cars is just one. There are some at WDI that realize this overall project is unique in scale and scope and would really like to hit it out of the park; a rehash of material already built or being built elsewhere is more of a base hit, so there is some push for a novel Phase 3. Of course, if the Big Cheese decides to drop in on a meeting and say, "I had an idea on the treadmill at 4 am and it involves Cars" then that is the route they will go. We should know sooner rather than later. But not this year. I would be willing to wager a large sum of churros that we will get at least a Phase 3 though.

Interesting. There still seems to be quite a bit of flexibility with the DHS project, and not just with Star Wars Land but parkwide.

Things are ramping up. Things are being accelerated.

Things are going to happen sooner than originally planned and more will happen at the same time. Hence changes we're starting to see.

Random semi related. Is the long term plan to leave old hat area open?

Interesting.

It's also worth mentioning all the news and drama coming out of Disneyland this week regarding Star Wars Land. In summary; On January 10th the Rivers of America (which has 4 different rides operating on it in Anaheim, one ride less than what DHS has operating right now) will close, the Disneyland Railroad will close, and Fantasmic! will go dark. These closures will last between 15 and 18 months, until the summer of 2017.

Disneyland's River and Railroad will both be majorly re-routed and re-Imagineered. The Fantasyland Theater will close by spring as the new railroad tracks go right through that space. Star Wars Land will heavily remake and enlarge the entire northwest quadrant of Disneyland, adding 14 acres to the size of the park when it's done in 2019.

Beach that canoe, and shut down that locomotive - Darth Vader needs that land!

If they are going through all that trouble for Disneyland, they certainly are going to do the same scope at DHS. I can't believe they would try to do chintzy stuff like salvage Echo Lake, instead of just bulldoze the whole area and start from scratch for DHS.

Can you please take the Disneyland crap elsewhere?

We're specifically discussing Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

So no, it's not revalent whatsoever.

I apologize. You're right that this is a DHS thread and we should keep it about DHS. I've removed the Disneyland mentions.

I let the fact that Star Wars Land is a near-identical 14 acre project in both parks lead me into a tangent about the latest Star Wars Land news from Anaheim when I was really just trying to make a point about the DHS version of the project. It won't happen again. :)

So, tomorrow is October 1. Does that mean that we'll see a third of the park implode as work kicks into gear? ;-)
I'll admit that I don't know the exact Disney financial calendar, but normally financial calendars are based on the day of the week, rather than the date its self. I would bet the new fiscal year starts Oct 4th or 5th. That keeps the weekends lined up with weekends, etc. year to year. So the wrecking ball (with Miley riding on it) would start swinging Monday. :D

I may be wrong, but I think the fiscal year actually ended this past Saturday. The second and third quarters ended on the last Saturdays of March and June, so I assume we are already in the new fiscal year.
