I would think that HISTK won't close for a little while. That land won't be used until Phase 3 with Cars/Monsters Inc/Muppets/Something Else Land, right?

Details have come up.
The flex theater's primary purpose is to act as a venue for special events, like cheer-leading competitions, corporate event nights, etc. that wouldn't be pertinent to normal park guests.
They're building it now because once it's completed Disney will have the flexibility to close or divert access to Theater of the Stars, Premiere Theater, the Indiana Jones stage, etc.

If the demolition for this makeover is as quick as the demolition of the speedway, I think the timelines we've seen tossed around aren't too far off the bat.
(To be fair, the speedway was mostly a concrete wasteland, so it isn't really a fair comparison)
The demolition for TSL should be easy, it's relocating everything that is in those building that is the tricky part.

The bunglows which are training offices and other department offices is easily transferred to the half empty animation building (the 4 story office building) The prop shop is just a double of the prop shop they have behind MK so that's presumably moving there. The costume shop has a few different places it can move on property but it will almost certainly be leaving DHS. Perhaps they built space into the new laundry facility they built south of DAK. As for the rest it's all temporary trailers (two of which are Imagineering) and parking lots so it's fairly easy to clear that land. This process will take time to be sure.

I figure it's probably time for a change from HISTKids. The theme is way outdated. I do like the playground though and hope they build something even better but along the lines of free play.

Small update on Phase 3 following a brief conversation that renewed my interest in the project. While the project is very likely to occur as it has already been budgeted money and multiple acres, there are several options being developed, of which Cars is just one. There are some at WDI that realize this overall project is unique in scale and scope and would really like to hit it out of the park; a rehash of material already built or being built elsewhere is more of a base hit, so there is some push for a novel Phase 3. Of course, if the Big Cheese decides to drop in on a meeting and say, "I had an idea on the treadmill at 4 am and it involves Cars" then that is the route they will go. We should know sooner rather than later. But not this year. I would be willing to wager a large sum of churros that we will get at least a Phase 3 though.

They'll wait a couple of years to announce this. There is lots of buzz right now with TSL, SWL, all the changes at DAK and even Disney Springs. No need to announce phase 3 until D23 2017Honestly, if they announced another land for HWS right now I wouldn't be incredibly excited. I just imagine Disney HQ with hundreds of people scrambling around trying to work on so many projects at once throwing papers at each other

I don't personally think it'll be two years before the whole DHS makeover is let out of the bag. DHS needs everything it can get. Thus, the expedited timeline for the project.

Relatively new, so have not been to DW when expansion has been announced. Is it safe to say when the Site at DHS for SWL opens in Dec., won't it show what the land will be and where it will be located?
If so, would they also have some information on TSL as well?
Just curious if alot of these phase 1 and 2 questions won't be answered in Dec. at least, hopefully before.

Not necessarily. The Star Wars Launch Bay is about Star Wars in general and not just the new land. If there is anything about SWL there at the start it may just be the concept art that has already been released. I doubt they would show and TSL information there.
