Details on Space Mountain Refurb

Right now Jan 9th to close, but that`s commemorating a decade of no Horizons so it *could* creep a week or 2 either way (yes, either way) and will probably last the year. They hope to have it open for - or on - the Mountains 35th birthday.

Typically, does not splash mountain take some downtime every January? If this is the case would they have two mountains down at once.

Needs be what needs be. They can`t postpone the annual Splash refurb for a year. Splash's furnishings take some hammering by the nature of the attraction, and need regular TLC.

I am kinda hoping that date moves back just a couple weeks as we are arriving on the 16th of January. I still won't be too disappointed if it closes before we get there though, I know it needs the refurb & it will make it even more special for the next trip.

As for TTA possibly closing during the refurb, I remember them keeping it open years ago during a seeminly long refurb of Space Mountain years ago. So I guess it really depends on what they plan to do with the refurb to determine whether it will close or not.

The problem is that it sounds like there will be a lot of heavy machinery and welding for this refurb. Plus work around the boarding area to add a ceiling to the loading platform, perhaps new post-show scenes, etc.

In that case, they may not run the TTA at all. Or, they'll run it as often as they can but have to close it for stretches of time where work is being done too close to the TTA track.

Am I the only one that sees the complete possibility that they can simply re-route the TTA track from not going into Space Mountain? It can be done!

They'd have to keep part of the original track, since TTA storage/maintenance is inside Space Mountain... (the bay is to the left as the TTA turns right in front of the Space Mountain sign and enters the mountain).

Here's what I'm thinking, you know the side-by-side track straight-away that leads into space mountain? Have it turn right before entering the straight-away and continue with the rest of the ride. But like you said, they could add a switch in the track there so if, when needed, the trains can head into the storage area.

While we're at it, let's throw some banked curves in there!

And gold! Let's paint everything gold! That's futuristic right?

Anyone? Anyone? :lookaroun

this sounds awesome

the new slight themeing of the unload area will be cool, ive always thought that seemed a little bare.

maybe they'll use the same lift hill chain technology as they have on everest, that one is sooooo quiet and quick.i think its a chain used on EE?

gonna be a long old job though,i bet splash and big thunder will be packed with space mountain down.

No, see... you paint everything gold and speed it up, but DON'T put in any banked curves. That way, you have to slow down for every curve. :D
