Details on Space Mountain Refurb

The TTA will close - no other refurb has done what this one will be doing to the interior infrastructure.

So do you know if they will be going to a more modern beam structure like one poster mentioned, and remove all the scaffolding, or stay with the scaffolding structure? Redoing all the scaffolding would probably be a lot of work.

I think a cool element would be like a wormhole effect where you enter an enclosed tube and they have light rings that move toward the vehicle, increasing the sense of speed so it feels like you are going faster than you are...kind of like they do at the beginning of the ride but with a different color and light pattern. Maybe incorporate that into one of the drops or helices so it feels like you are really hauling. They could easily incorporate that into the current design.

As for TTA...maybe it should stay open. The showers of sparks from the cutting torches ripping the ride apart might look kinda...space-ish and cool.

Hmmmm, yeah add 3-d welding goggles and hardhats and you would have some serious immersion going on :D

There is no cheap way to run the TTA and bypass SM - there isn`t a way to run through the WEDWay garage since it`s a workshop and the radius of a right hand turn onto the single track infront of SMs satellite building is too tight - a whole new elevated track section would need to be built and intergrated with the existing system.

That's a shame...Perhaps they can work on the TTA while this is going on too...

What they heck!Just re-do all of TL.

I wouldn't mind a "disorientation" tunnel like they have at Disneyland... makes you feel like you're spiraling at low speed.

I'm definitely hoping this is a refurb where the Imagineers are looking at the "big picture" and TTA is part of it. It only makes sense they would update it at the same time.

The support structure will have to change to accomodate the newer, heavier track and trains. It will still be a bit scaffold-ish, but not as substantial as before.
Example - Take a look at DL's.

It's good to hear that Space Mountain finally getting its refurbishment. It would be nice to see the TTA egta little update as well, but we'll see. It won't totally kill Tomorrowland to have both down at the same time. The CoP is always there to soak up extra people. Despite the lower crowd levels of January, I'd be worried for the entire MK if Splash Mountain still goes down for its month-long annual refurbishment in January. Big Thunder Mountain will be swamped! Im excited to see what this turns out like, hopefully in 2010!

Must you be negative? If you don't have anything nice to post, don't post it all.

I'm sure that's in the rules.
Negative? Try, truth. But, feel free to tell everyone how you know more than the people in charge. That's one of the most ludicrous statement I've read lately.

And can we please rise above the snarky comments.

Sorry... forgot. Idiotic statements are fine, just not snarky.

This refurb that loses SM and TTA will go fine, crowds can be absored into other areas (CoP, Stitch may acually have a wait of more than 5-10 and other areas of the park can absorb some). The toughest part will be the annual Splash refurb, but we survived HM and SSE being down at the same time (I get, different parks).

Heck, during our July visit, SSE was closed and UoE and Journey were both down. That didn't have a dramativ effect on lines for the day.

It definitely sucks for visitors in '09 - but you have to go to Disney expecting attractions to be down. We're hoping to be back Oct. of 2010 - looking forward to things being down and having a preview of the 2011 attention that we all think is going on.
