Details on Space Mountain Refurb

Yes! They are sealing off the queue!! This is a good move...it will finally make the ride space dark enough to be pitch black with just the projections visible. Also, it will make the ride more of an unknown, something I think adds to the anticipation for first time riders...they will have no idea what is coming. As it is now, yeah it's cool that you can see a bunch of glowing cars going around the track, but you can also see they aren't going very fast and it doesn't make you anxious.

Hopefully the new track will make the ride smoother and quieter, but I like that they are keeping the layout. It's a solid design that will benefit from just the upgrades in darkness and effects.

So the the track being replaced, it is possible that they may modernize the transitions from element to element with a computer model to make the ride smoother? The layout is good, but the curves and transitions were designed in a time when computers were not used for designing coasters. Now companies like B&M and Intamin use them to center the riders heart as the point of rotation I believe. Will they be incorporating these new techniques to re-profile the existing layout? Or, do they want to keep the rather abrupt, wild style ride the layout currently delivers? I wonder...

I imagine, with the low-speed of the attraction, that the wild-mouse style will remain. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's necessary.

I would just love for them to replace the footers so it's not a "scaffold" type coaster but is instead beam supported.

niiice. I wish they would double the capacity by giving the rockets side-by-side seats though. It'd be nice to experience the ride with my boyfriend next to me instead of in front of me :animwink:

Actually, I wish they'd go back to the in-line seating without the invidual seatbacks, where parties of two got to be very cozy on the ride. ;)

In regards to the question of whether or not the TTA will be closed as well for the duration of the refurb -- is there any feasible way to avoid this? Maybe I'm being overly sensitive to it, but it seems to me like the TTA being down in addition to SM for upwards of a year would REALLY put a damper on TL; particularly with the kinetics, look, and sound of the place. Hope that can be avoided if at all possible.

This sounds great, I can't wait for audio on board. Although, it has always been fun to ride while hearing other people screaming!

I'm not sold on enclosing the load area...it's also fun to watch the trains glowing in the dark as they zoom around in space.

Either way, this is going to be a great refurb...

In a word - yes.

That is incredibly interesting. If you are right then the idea of keeping the original layout is growing on me. Especially if they are going to fix the "leaks". A darker ride would allow for more specialized and sophisticated FX elements since their support systems could be hidden along a darkened track. I am becoming encouraged about this refurb. :)

I would bet that if TTA is scheduled for a refurb it will happen during the SM refurb for safety and other logistical reasons. Think of it as short term pain, for long term gain.

I agree. The scaffolding can be really visible and gives away the illusion. Beams won't really be that visible.

This is true. As if tomorrowland wasn't degraded enough already. But, why can't they just re-route the TTA so it doesn't go into SM? It can be done! And cheaply too.
