You’re probably right. I have to wonder if they still have to pay some kind of royalty to their own songwriters, even if Disney owns the music itself.

Depends on the individual contracts.
In many cases, a royalty fee is collected and distributed to both the owner of the audio recording rights as well as the songwriter rights.

So for example, say a song like ‘On The Road Again’ by Willie Nelson.
The record company that owns the audio recording rights will be paid, as well as Mr. Nelson if he still owns the song writing rights.

Better yet, he’s the cast member that closes the last show 🤣
They could get a streetmosphere as him telling guests to tear down country bear hall...

It's also an obvious change, but I wonder if they'll replace the CBJ poster under the train station at the entrance with the new one we've seen with the Opening 2024 replaced with Frontierland or something.
Well, they did it for the other versions..So, that very well be the new poster for for attraction..

Or at least they did in Tokyo, last I went in the 2000s when they ran the Christmas Special WDW didn't seem to have a poster for it.

I hope we get some new merch for the bears out of this. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Tokyo at least gives the bears some love with Sun Bonnet plushes and new art that doesn't directly copy the stock Marc Davis images,

For example, for Tokyo DL's 2024 wall calendar, August's image is some great brand new art of the bears at the beach.
I honestly prefer how Tokyo's artists draw Teddi and the Sun Bonnets, they look a lot cuter than in the Marc Davis art.
Plus all the sepia tone pictures that Tokyo did of the bears that we never got here in the US!

A few examples -
Aerosmith
Life is a highway,
spirit of the season,
Guardians of Galaxy attractions,
Illuminations pre-show music
The Harry Potter theme!

Music licensing and royalties can be weird because it’s not like other content. There is already an established framework of crediting and paying different people for different roles. It’s part of what allows covers.

Exactly - and they have to use that established framework already for the music they own themselves.

Ah yes, Frontierland...a place for 1920s Food Co-Ops and songs about highways.
My favorite was always the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown segment featuring Wendell’s version of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” accompanying a slideshow of the Country Bear’s summer road trip and the car trouble they had with their 1930s convertible sedan along the way.
