Could it Be? (EO returning to EPCOT)

Some of yall make it sound like EO is going to be there permanently. And it wont. The longest would probably be the summer, and I cant see a problem in it coming back.

Temporary like the wand? Or maybe temporary like Mickey's Birthday Land?

Disney's definition of temporary is different from mine.

Disney would bring back Eo and then turn its attention elsewhere.

I agree. I mean, its not like HISTA pulls in the numbers as EO more than likely would. So if they did put it there, they can have more foot traffic and maybe a refurbed imagination would come sooner.

How does increased foot traffic lead to a quicker refurb? It doesn't. More foot traffic leads to Disney leaving things as-is and fixing something else instead.

I also don't think anyone should be shrugging this off as harmless in that it's limited. ToonTown was limited. The "Year" of a Million Dreams was limited. "Limited" is just a buzz word used to convince people to take trips sooner rather than later so they don't "miss" the particular promotion. If it's popular enough, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear an announcement that the "limited" engagement has been extended due to "our guest's demands". As others who are 'in the know' have stated, it coming only delays an Imagination overhaul. From that perspective alone, it is not harmless, in my opinion.

Quoted for extreme truthiness.

Thank you!

I thought many people of that age group (I know I'm just 25, but I was a kid when he was at his peak) would feel that way, but whenever I ask my 8th grade students what they want to listen to when they are working on homework, it is a resounding MJ. Now obviously they know I can't play most current pop music because of the content, but I was still shocked when the kids were talking about seeing "This Is It" and sing along to the songs. Obviously this is just about 100 kids in a small town school, but I expected them to be the way you described and my group couldn't be further away.

Nothing against the Music which is some of the best pop music ever written but it just wasn't playing anywhere when I was growing up. I just saw him on the news occasionally having dangled a baby out of a window or at his court case.

WDW1974's argument doesn't hold water. He wants Disney to do new things? fine I agree with that so does Disney that's why there redoing DCA with new attractions, thats why Disneyland is getting Star Tours 2 and several new e-tickets this decade. However, not every single ride can be replaced with something new. The only thing they could really do with the magic eye theather is bulldoze it or put in a new film which will wind up getting old after 1-2 viewings. It would make sense to just return the most iconic of the Magic eye movies.

When the choices are keep HISTA open, close HISTA and leave an empty building, replace HISTA with Monsters inc. laugh floor or reopen the AWSOME Captain Eo. I think it's safe to say Disney made the right choice and the lines camping out 4 hours before Disneyland opened today prove my point. Disney is a business and they need to make the right choices to bring in the dough $$$. Plus, it will help with capacity once Star Tours closes down and when Star Tours 2 opens they can either keep EO or replace it with a brand new attraction. Either way no more HISTA. Its win win win!

Seeing all the pictures this morning made me realize a big reason why I love Disneyland. So many people turned out to see an old attraction again on a beautiful Tuesday morning. Merch selling, people talking. Every day at Disneyland is an "Event", and has special things going on you'll remember.

The fear of seasonal change and the stagnation of our parks keep them from having that amazing "Home" feeling Disneyland has, where the new and seasonal things don't "Ruin vacations", but make them special.

Al Lutz has an article up today with details of the EO Tribute in it, and was in one of the paragraphs:

Walt Disney World's (WDW) management backed out of a later proposal to also bring the show to Epcot, after deciding the modest cost to transform the theater was too much money to spend on what they consider Orlando's less involved tourists. (Tokyo Disneyland's management is taking a wait and see approach, after already committing to big-buck upgrades currently under construction in both DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland.)

Regardless of any other sentiment I've expressed in this thread, that sense of community at Disneyland is awesome. I cannot wait to experience Disneyland this summer for the first time. Great post.

Oh ya, DL is amazing. Hope you have a great time.

So how popular was it at DL? Did it just return today? WDW is missing out then, remember when HM reopened after its refurb and there were pics here about people lined up from all the way out the bridge. They were obviously locals. Think about all the people that would line up to see eo.

You just summed it up beautifully, and made me realize what is behind that certain something that gives Disneyland such a totally different vibe than WDW ever has for me. Thanks for that!

The pictures of Tony Baxter out chatting and hanging out this morning with the Captain EO fans is also part of it. There are just so many powerful Disney execs that have such a genuine passion and warm affection for Disneyland, that they can just go out and hang with the fans waiting in line without need for a TelePrompter script and corporate "talking points" and personal assistants standing nearby with their water bottle. I'm looking at you Meg Crofton!

WDW too often seems corporate and canned, while Disneyland is warm and homey.

From what I hear, WDI is supposed to take over the pavilion later on in the year. I've heard of many people who have gone on the backstage tour at EPCOT and during the portion where you go to the old Image Works, there are supposedly things from WDI laying around all over the place so it is possible if they do gain control of it, we could see something happen sooner or later (hopefully sooner though!).
Imag? WDI have been `meant` to take over the ground floor for the past 2 years now.

EO coming could be a blessing or a curse. Same with not coming. If it comes, the main pavilion (they are actually separate structures) could close with the Magic Eye Theatre being the draw to FW SW. If it dosn`t come, the entire facility could close for the whiz-bang full on overhaul.

There again, if it does come they could hope any crowds may also drift into the ride and use this to justify keeping it open longer. And if it dosn`t come they could just let the whole area stagnate longer, or go the smaller ride refurb route that is also on the table and keep HISTA open longer.

What they do with the current ride...? Just freshen it up?:brick:

They need an entirely new ride system in there. Get rid of the theater show, get rid of the track system and build an attraction that's actually imaginative.

Ideally it could be celebrating imagineering where the pavilion and ride take you through past successes as well as future projects, but I'm not optimistic that the idea would actually happen.

More importantly, this would be a perfect venue for the trackless ride system - something that can seem out of control at parts and then reeled in when necessary, like human imagination/creativity.

As it stands right now, the pavilion is a black hole of creativity. It lacks the warmth of the original pavilion, and another bandaid solution is not the answer.
