Does it seem strange that this cheerleadering competition seem to be get longer and longer each year. Last January when I was at all stars it was quiet for a day and a half. Then all of a sudden there was hundred of them at the all star sport practicing on the football field location. And this started before 8 in the morning. This I did not mind but my room was on the first floor by the pool and the food court!

The only bad experience I have with them was every morning at the food court. These guy and gals must have a differ food vouchers each day and the line at the cash register keep getting longer each minute. The Cash register ladys have little experience in accepting these coupons. And since these cheeerleaders took up most most of the stall seats. I was taking my food back to my room to eat and read the newspapers.

Only once they let out a cheer on the bus to the park. The nice thing they did was to offer me a seat rather than stand all the way back to the resort one night.

Well we're going in Feb. I am going armed with my camera and a notepad. If I see bad behavior....CLICK!! Make casual conversation and find out what school. Then email the pics of behavior to the school with a note. If the school doesn't take responsibility for the cheerleaders/chaperones, then they can live with the reputation! Might even post here!
School pride is one thinkg, but disturbing others is rude.

I traveled with a marching band. Goodness, all they did on EVERY bus ride no matter what time of day was sing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of their lungs! over and over! And they sang while in lines! It was so disrespectful. IT was the worst display of manners I have ever seen. They run through the parks, and jump on walls. All members of a marching band should be banned from WDW forever!!!!

...see my point?

All those facts have been seen by me, by the way.

Thank you so much for standing up for the parents who wanted to say something but did not. :sohappy: We had so many bad experiences with the cheerleading groups in the lines for the WDW attractions. Two cheerleaders would allow 30 of their friends to cut in line to be with them, then they all did their cheers. It was a nightmare. I like to take in the experience of the line, meaning I truly like looking around at the scenery for Splash or BTMR. I do not want to hear 50 cheers going on.

Another thing on the bus that would have upset me is if my child were asleep which she normally is after a day at the park. I like the idea of an "official" chapperone and I also think Disney needs to schedule separate shuttles for those groups to and from the park. Then, they could all ride on the bus amongst their own and scream all they wanted.

Thank you for cutting me some slack.

Youre right not all of them act poorly, I'm sure the good kids out number the bad 10 to 1 or more.

It's just that enough do act poorly, that it drags down a whole group.

3 times I've been to Disney with some sort of Cheer thing going on.
3 times I've had a negative experience.
3 times the parents/chaparones did nothing.

I know I'm defensive because my kid is cheerleader and I know full well how rowdy groups of them can annoy the crap out of you. I'm just saying quit lumping them all together as bad. I'm guilty of doing that myself after a few bad experiences with Brazilian tour groups - but that is for another thread.

On my last trip down (for vaca, not a competition) there was a squad from CA on our plane. They cheered their way onto the plane. As soon as we got into the air the captain came over the PA and said something about "lets welcome blah, blah, blah All Stars from CA" everyone clapped, then the captain said "and as a courtesy to all passengers we are asking said squad not to cheer or be disruptive for the duration of the flight". We never heard another peep out of them. Other than that, the only other bad behavior I saw the rest of the week came from the Pop Warner FOOTBALL team staying at PO that were stealing food from the food court...............

Anyway, go onto Disney's Wide World of Sports and look up cheerleading competions there. That way you can get an idea of what times to avoid. I'd also like to mention that when we do have a competition - our times to relax in the parks are very limited. You drive all the way down there only to be told, you cannot go to the parks because you have a practice at 2pm - which totally blows your day. I LOVE WDW like everyone else and I get really annoyed having WDW within reach and not being able to get to it...........so maybe, just maybe that is why those kids act like idiots on the bus. It's NOT an excuse, but it could be one of the reasons they act so annoying.

Surely anyone making a racket on a bus deserves to be asked to shut up - regardless of what they may be? It`s called manners.

Maybe they need to remember that they're at Disney World for a competition NOT for a vacation and time in the parks is a luxury and their cheers should be kept for the competition field, not the parks. The rest of us are paying guests who are there for vacation and to enjoy our time in the parks. If we wanted to see them cheer we would go watch the competition, we do not need to see it everywhere we turn while trying to enjoy our family vacations.

Not really...............
A some band geeks act up and that justifies some of the cheerleaders behavior?

Or some Latin group acts up or, or or.

We're talking about cheerleaders here. :brick:

Obviously in looking at the size this thread there are a lot of people who have had bad experiences with cheerleader groups.

So again, that's not say they're all bad........just enough though.

OMG THANK YOU! I've seen too many of those last week. Honestly, there is no need to cheer at the park, do that where you're supposed to do it. It's so annoying...

When we went in Feb. of this year, there was a group of cheerleaders. They had spread themselves across the street so no one could get by them. They were walking arm in arm and their chaparone was walking in front of them. After a long day, the last thing you want to do is walk behind a bunch of chanting (very loudly) girls. So after a bit of it, several families (we didn't know each other) just kind of walked thru the line. We didn't hurt them, but the chaperone gave US the dirty looks. I know all squads aren't like that. I would never allow my daughter to act like that no matter what kind of activity she is doing (she does not cheer), but how can expect the kids to act right when the adult in charge does not?

I'll state it again, in the times I've had experiances with Pop Warner Cheerleaders and competition, I have found some of the parents to be even more rude and offensive than the Cheerleaders.

I hade the opposite of having them block me. My kids were trying trying to leave a recreation facility where they were have a competition, and there was very little space to walk out, and as we were trying to leave we had a group of girls try to push thru, without even saying "excuse me can we get by?", well I'm a fairly big person, I put my kids in front of me and made sure they didn't get by.

Wonderful, let them display thier talents during the competition. That's where it's expected and appreciated.

But it's not expected or appreciated on busses and ride queues.

Go ahead and teach them to be good performers, but more importantly, teach them to be good citizens. Respectful to those around them.

I don't care how talented they are or how hard they worked to get there, if they are not good citizens, then thier talent means NOTHING!

I completely agree, believe me. I was replying to the fact that people were saying they have no talent other than yelling.

That's not what I meant. What I was saying was that if you put together any group of young people down in Disney for some big event, they're going to be loud and excited. Yes I know, everyone loves targeting cheerleaders, I guess because part of their sport is yelling, but it's very unfair for people (especially members of this forum, which is surprising me) to be blaming only cheerleaders.

Take a look at the boards. There are many cheerleaders, former cheerleaders, and cheer parents, I'm sure who aren't appreciating those of you categorizing us with the disrespectful group of cheerleaders some of you may have seen on your vacation. We love WDW as much as you do, that's why we're here. And just because a small group of cheerleaders ruined part of your vacation, please don't bash us all. I'm sorry that happened, but there are just as many other groups of tourists who cause just as much of a disruption as some cheerleaders.

No offense to you, but NOBODY IS SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT BANNING ANYBODY!

We're saying that the cheerleaders (since this WAS a thread started about cheerleaders, but it's valid for any large organized group) need to turn down their screechiness to a bare minimum when they're NOT actually competing, because loud and rowdy and obnoxious groups of any stripe grate on the nerves of families and vacationers who also deserve to have as pleasant a day in the parks as possible. Just because they as a group might outnumber your family on vacation doesn't mean they should think it's a good idea to constantly shout or sing or block walkways or anything else. If I were on the bus with your group when you were shouting Bohemian Rhapsody, I would've kindly asked you to stop, especially if it were the end of the night and most of the other bus patrons were fried and needed some decompression time (again, the point of the OP). And if you didn't stop, my words would've become more choice.

No, no, I understand completely.

Maybe it's because I used to be a cheerleader, but I only said those things to put in perspective that groups other than cheerleaders are obnoxious. I just found some of these posts pretty unfair towards all cheerleaders.

But that was why the thread was started. I've seen threads started about other large groups, senior trips, the infamous Brazilian teens gone wild, even church groups that get obnoxious with group hymns. I should revisit those threads, maybe at one point someone asked "Well, what about the cheerleaders, they're annoying too! Don't just dump on seniors/Brazilians/Innuits on a caffeine jag/whatever the group du jour is!"

But the OP was complaining about cheerleaders, so about cheerleaders we all complained.

Something else to consider is WHY it's easy to target cheerleaders for scorn and derision. :)

Sure, other large groups are loud and obnoxious. But cheerleaders know how to be loud and obnoxious...AND ORGANIZED! The only thing worse than one person getting on your nerves, OR a bunch of people getting on your nerves in a chaotic, wall-of-sound way, is a bunch of people all working together, as a group, perfectly in sync with ways to make you miserable. But if it makes you feel better, I'd be just as annoyed if, say, a Pentacostal Church Group started shouting out hymns about What a Friend We Have In Jesus, or if a touring theater troupe decided what the Expedition Everest Line really needed was selections from Les Miz, a cappella in 4 part harmony. When anyone does this, it sorta makes you want to take them aside and say "This day is NOT just about YOU! It's about ALL of us! Enjoying Walt Disney World! And what THEY'VE produced for ALL of us! If they needed you to sing or cheer or dance while on line or in the middle of the parks or on a bus, they'd have hired you! But they didn't! Stop competing for our attention with what we paid good money to pay attention to! You're not doing any of us any favors."

I don't know if anyone here was at MGM last Thursday night, but there was a group of about 50 - 75 people who kept singing for about 45 minutes leading up to Fantasmic... The wave is cool.. but having to listen to a large group sing for 45 minutes gets to be a bit much... Anyone else get the pleasure of this experience?
