Try working for them...

All I can say is controling over 4000 rooms of cheerleaders and football players is no easy task. It was nightmere for us (or for me at least) over at the All-Stars. I'm just a front desk person, but we had to be there to break up fights, answer noise problems and whatnot. Security even had regular teams on the grounds that we usually don't have. We even set up a special place for their check-ins and check-outs so the regular guests don't have to deal with them.

I gave back so much money these past two weeks for all the issues, its not even funny. They has us working 60 hours weeks to deal with it all. :brick:

This time of year (late Fall) at WDW, when the cheerleaders are invited down in hordes... it can get a bit problematic.

Most times cheerleaders have had experience only riding on THEIR OWN school buses... and they can do what they like.
However, the Disney RESORT/PARK buses are a different story.

The only unpleasant interaction we personally encountered was going back to All Stars on a late bus from MGM one night after viewing the OLights.

There was a group (6-8) of cheerleaders who decided we all needed to hear them do a routine. They were all in the very back seats.

They did a cheer (full-volume) inside that tightly-enclosed steel shell of a bus, that lasted about 20 seconds (OK, not TOO bad).

Then, less than a minute later, they started ANOTHER one!

Well, understand that the bus is FULL (standing room fully filled) at around 10pm after a full day at the parks. (The bus was a combo of all 3 All Stars by that time of night.)

I was standing about 3 rows away and at that point (in my "big boy" announcer's voice) I yelled, "KNOCK IT OFF!!!"
And the girls DID stop, mid-yodel.
(My DW chimed in with, "Not everybody wants to hear you cheer.")

We got lots of "thank you's" from the other weary guests nearby,
followed by much (very quiet) discussion amongst ourselves about the parents not teaching the kids any respect of others.

When we got to Sports (we were staying at Music) the girls and their "chaperones" got off the bus. The dad (I assume) of one of the girls was "steamed-up" over the fact that we silenced his little charges.

His wife actually physically held him back as he came running back to answer another man who told him that he needed to explain "outside voice/inside voice" to the girls.
The situation came close to being "nasty" and that would have been a shame.
The dad of the cheerleaders actually told the rest of us on the bus (as his wife pulled him away) that we needed to learn to "respect the kids!"

Respect the kids... if they want to cheer on a public bus... let 'em!

Wow!

I am glad you did something yourself. But just so everyone knows that if you are on a bus and you have a problem with one of the other guests on that bus just let the driver know and they can ask them quite down. Now if they dont well the driver has the option to have WDW security to meet the bus at the next stop and have them talk to the loud guests. Bus driver dont like to call security but sometimes we have to because of certian reasons. Now if i was driving i would have had them keep it down and if they didnt i would have had security meet me at my first stop.

I had one time that guest was yelled at by another guest at the MK while waiting for the bus to come in and feared to go back to her hotel because thats were this guest went one bus in front of her. So we just let security know and they were there at the resort and walked her to her room. At the world they want everyone to have a fun safe time and thats why they have such a large Security team.

If I get annoyed at my hotel, I pick up the phone and call the front desk. That is what the hotel managment is for. A word from them and the right people can be called and the offenders risk being asked to leave or they pipe down. My 2 cents.
In a good & just world, sure. But what happens is, at night, the reduced staff is too putting out so many other fires, noisiness is the least of their concerns. They'll have some kids sneaking out, otherstrying to sneak in booze or drugs, bedhopping, catfights...meanwhile, you just want to sleep but can't for the noise. The Values are booked, mods & deluxe rooms are running scarce & they suspect you're just complaining or the sake of trying to get a free upgrade. They'll probably offer you a token- small discount on a room, a free lunch, bonus Fastpasses, but they'll try not to move you, cuz the next person booked in that room will complain too. Better 1 unhappy guest than 2 or 3.

Besides, you represent 1 room. The cheerleaders take up a dozen rooms, maybe more, plus chaperones. The cheering competition is a big draw for some reason. Complaining to mgmt may get you satisfaction, but there's only so much they'll do. Better off telling the cheerleaders to shut their pieholed. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but at least your neighbors will know someone's on their side.

I was a cheerleader in high school, and if my squad had acted like that, we wouldn't have gone anywhere EVER AGAIN. We were expected to be proper young ladies representing our school at ALL TIMES, whether at school, a game, a competition, or at any place where people might see us.

A few years ago, my wife and I had taken a short trip down to WDW without the the boys. We happened to be staying at one of the AS, one morning we were going to MK for breakfast at CP, when the bus came we ended up waiting for a bunch of teen girls, HS age, who were there for some kind of dance competition. Well we waited nicely as the bus driver asked, but after about 5 minutes I finally ask to go because we had ressie's and it was getting late. So one of the adult's said ok, with an attitude, and said to another adult to wait for the rest of them. Well they all got on the bus, first they all looked like hookers, makeup looked like it was pput on with a putty knife. And then we all got hit in the face with about 20 different perfumes. Got a headache and almost lost my appitite. When we arrived the one adult said under her breath, ( thought I couldn't hear her ), something about patience, to which I replied, I had patience, but we had breakfast ressie's and we did not want to miss them. Maybe you should learn to have better control of your girls! :zipit:

Congradulations! I've had a few run ins with Pop Warner Cheerleaders in the past couple of years, and I think somethimes the parents are worse than the kids. They don't teach disapline or respect to those cheerleaders. We were at Disney last year and overlapped with the Pop Warner and I almost got in a fight with the father of a cheerleader at MK. My wife still teases me about being at the "Happiest Place on Earth" and getting in an argument.

Save the cheerleaders, save the world!

you win at the internet.

Also, I know that I myself have been guilty of being one of those annoying teenagers singing in parks. But I guess there's a difference between the grating shouts of teenyboppers and choir members singing in 3-part harmony?

No worries...PoP Warner went from 12/2 to 12/9, so the last of them should be cleared out well before you get there....thank goodness.

I think this show us that Disney is trying to do the right thing for all their guests. And I would still call to the front desk if I had a problem. If they know enough to add extra staff and security then there should not be a problem with the calls being answered and problems taken care of. I am not in the habit of complaining to get a refund, discount etc...but if I am a paying guest I think I am just as important as the next paying guest.

I find the cheerleaders obnoxious but honestly any large group of teenagers or preteens whether it be cheerleaders, bands, or choirs are obnoxious.

Actually, my group (of late-20-something guys) discovered on a bus ride that a retort cheer back at the offending cheerleaders of:
"Be...Annoying! B..E..Annoying! Be...Annoying... B...E...Annoying... You'rrrreeee ANNOYING!" shut them up pretty darn quick. :D And the rest of the bus got a good chuckle out of it, too. :animwink:

My DD and I ran into a large group of about 70 Coed college cheering team at TOT the week of Thanksgiving this year and let me tell you it was worse than the dealings we have had during Pop Warner week. They kept getting up on the walls and climbing everything they could find and when you get about 70 kids screaming a cheer at the top of thier lungs it is bad. During all of this srazyness a lone CM was trying to curtail all of this mischief and unfortunately lost the battle. Another great thing going on is that some already appeared to be intoxicated and a few were almost to the point of having $ex right in line. Many people left the line because they could not take the antics that were going on and I was really close, but this was my DD's first TOT ride and she was dead set to go on it. When we finally got into the preshow we were in the room with about 30 of them and when the lights went out the all started the high pitch screaming. Thanks to a CM that walked right in the center of all of them and ripped right into them and they all shut-up. On her way back to the edge of the room she passed us and apologized for these idiots and handed us a few special fastpasses to come back and ride TOT and enjoy it.

I once got stuck in the Space Mountain queue with 2 cheering teams trying to out cheer each other and let me tell you that the sound in that tunnel was unbelievable. People were yelling at the girls and they were just screaming louder. I was waiting for an all out brawl to start. This was the last year I was at WDW during the Pop Warner week and I will never go back during that time.

I just do not understand these parents and shaperones. If this was my kid I would ground her till she was 21. We need to teach our children respect!

hello all,

we just returned from our trip from the world and we had only a few encounters with said cheerleaders. However, while waiting for everest to open i was talking with a woman who was staying in the all star resort and said that twice they had to actually call the cops-not hotel security-but the cops because the cheerleaders were so out of hand. apparently, and this is obviously only one woman's side of the story, the cheerleaders chaperones were drinking and getting too drunk to properly handle their "charges".
i do understand and vaguely remember being young and with a bunch of my friends-with or without parents-and getting excited and a bit too rowdy. the fault as usual is not only on the cheerleaders themselves but to the parents and/or chaperones accompanying(sp) them. I just wish that the people who spend their time defending this kind of activity could remember or just experience what it is like to spend 10-12 hrs walking around the world with a crabby, finding her defiant streak, almost 3 yr. old, and tell me how cute it is at 10 at night, when all you want is a few moments of quiet, sit back and relax time, to hear a gaggle of high pitched pre teens recite for an entire bus to "enjoy" their routines. If anyone needs a reminder or cheat sheet my 3 year old is available for demonstrations...

later on, i will try to post our trip report...had some bad experiences at our favorite place on earth:lookaroun.
