...the cheerleaders chaperones were drinking and getting too drunk to properly handle their "charges"...

Dealing with those brats would drive me to drink ,too.

I thought our trip in September would be teen group free as it is the beginning of the school year, but no dice. We ran into a large middle school group at TOT and by the time we got to the actual loading zone, I thought my BF was going to pick one up and go for a 20/10 split using the rest as pins. Jut our luck, it looked like we were stuck on an elevator with these idiots, talking about Justin Timberlake and what's going to happen on The O.C. when a very kind CM told us we could go on the elevator to the right, but we wouldn't be seated together. "NO PROBLEM!" we shouted unison, you never saw two people move so fast. I wanted to hug the CM but she was already on her way towards the little hellions to tell them to stop climing on the railings.

At least these kids were wearing bright red shirts so we could spot them in the parks and go in the opposite direction....

I ran into somebody last week at the parks who told me about the horror story on their bus. Cheerleaders made up 85% of the full bus and they were doing their cheers loud and long. This person said their youngest child was scared from all the loud noise of the cheers and one cheerleader was almost screaming in his wife's ear.
When they tried to get them to stop... the cheerleader mothers yelled at him and his family and were extremely rude.

I'm not surprised by this at all. What really amazes me is that the chaperones and cheer mothers don't care who the girls disturb... but they become irate if anyone voices an objection to their girls' behavior.

I was a cheerleader in high school, and if my squad had acted like that, we wouldn't have gone anywhere EVER AGAIN. We were expected to be proper young ladies representing our school at ALL TIMES, whether at school, a game, a competition, or at any place where people might see us.

That's exactly how my squad was. I know that the cheerleaders bother many people, but please keep in mind that not all cheerleaders cheer just to walk around in shorts that say "cheer" on their butts. I was in my high school's color guard also, and when we traveled to WDW the band kids were just as loud and obnoxious as they sang songs on the buses. Please just don't stereotype all cheerleaders, we're not all bad :o

I was in the World for the first part of last week and the start of Pop Warner. We didn't really notice too many iritating Cheerleaders. We did run across a large group of spanish speaking kids in Animal Kingdom last Monday that were extremely rude and pushy. They were trying to push my mother and I out of the way during the parade and were really in my face with their cameras and elbows. They then proceeded to start doing some sort of spanish cheer after the parade, blocking the already crowded walkway in Harambe. I wanted to go back on the Safari and since they were blocking the way I just forced my way through them yelling excuse me as I went. Other than that we really only ran into 1 group of cheerleaders last Tuesday in the Magic Kingdom but they were extremely well behaved. We were on the same boat as them for the Jungle Cruise and not a peep or a cheer or a chant out of them. I can't speak for what it was like at the resorts as we were at the Wilderness Lodge and there weren't really many cheerleaders there.

I know it's the parents that cause most of the behavior in those little cheer-things.

Most of the mothers were either cheer-things themselves or wannabees.
And these kids get taught from an early age that they are special.

I played hockey in high school and college, and I know what it's like growing up that way.

The difference is their talent (and I use that very loosely) is to yell and scream.

I remember Cheerleaders in my school days, they were pretty much all stuck up, just like the us hockey players. But nothing like these little monsters that are out there now.

If you get any group of kids together, take them to WDW, let them eats lots of candy, pack them on a bus, they're gonna yell and scream. They're excited! It's not just "stuck up, obnoxious cheerleaders with their wanna be cheer moms."

Spend some time to watch a competition, they are talented athletes. More than just yelling.

I would rather listen to cheerleaders cheer than Brazilian tour groups. We are going back down in Feb. and before booking with the AP rate, we checked and found out that their are cheerleading competitions all through Feb 2007 also, so we paid extra and booked at a moderated instead of the All-Stars or Pop Century. Nothing against the cheerleaders, because I know that they are down there to have fun, but they do get pretty loud at the All-Stars.

We are going to WDW from 1/17 - 1/27.:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:
PLEASE tell me there aren't any cheering competitions then.:brick: When we were there a few years ago the cheerleaders drove us nuts with the constant cheering in lines, on the busses, at the hotel, etc. You name a place, they cheered there. One bus driver even let them have his mic so thet could cheer over the p.a. system. Almost had a mutiny after that.

Sorry, but I take exception to that. That's why adults need to explain the rules to the kids before they eat lots of candy, get packed on a bus and yell and scream. Excitement is one thing. It's good and understandable while at the World. Bad behavior is another thing and that's what this is.

You said some pretty nasty things, but since you are new I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt.

Not ALL cheerleaders act like that, period!

I have a daughter who is a cheerleader and no I was never one myself and never really cared for it when I was in high school. Do not confuse the two different types of cheerleading. Football cheerleading is athletic, but competition cheerleading (the kind of comps in WDW) will knock your socks off. My kid is in the gym every day of the week working on tumbling skills which does require TALENT.

We have been to two competitons this season and we do not allow our kids to act like that. Don't lump all cheerleaders into one category.

For the sanity of the rest of you: We will be in WDW for the UCA Nationals, March 9-11, 2007. Competitions to be held in the Milk House and at Indy in MGM.

AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fastpass goes from being a 5 minute wait to a 20 minute wait each time these groups get there fastpasses and enter a ride.

Think I am exagerating? I worked at MK this summer and it really is a 20 minute wait everytime a large group comes through the line with the passes, and then yell there lungs out with there chants, adults right there with the kids!!!

(I do know that everyone is entitled to fastpasses, which is fine)

I never was a cheerleader and was never interested in even attempting to become one, but the things these girls (and guys) can do really is nothing short of spectacular.

Wonderful, let them display thier talents during the competition. That's where it's expected and appreciated.

But it's not expected or appreciated on busses and ride queues.

Go ahead and teach them to be good performers, but more importantly, teach them to be good citizens. Respectful to those around them.

I don't care how talented they are or how hard they worked to get there, if they are not good citizens, then thier talent means NOTHING!

Ummm, the talent that lilclerk was talking about CANNOT be performed on a bus or in a line -

again don't blame ALL the cheerleaders for one set of mis-behaving, over-excited kids.

Thank you for cutting me some slack.

Youre right not all of them act poorly, I'm sure the good kids out number the bad 10 to 1 or more.

It's just that enough do act poorly, that it drags down a whole group.

3 times I've been to Disney with some sort of Cheer thing going on.
3 times I've had a negative experience.
3 times the parents/chaparones did nothing.

It really doesn't matter what group of people is there, I've seen band groups, drama kids, and even science class field trips act just as bad, if not worse, than cheer groups.

All in all, it is simply a lack of respect for those around. This is usually the result of people not being taught proper manners and how to behave themselves in public. And I say "people" because the parents/adults can be just as bad as their kids. It's a shame that bad behavior is amplified in a group setting, but there are a LOT of factors at work here. Putting a bunch of kids all around the same age, without parents, with their friends, and in a location away from home/school can lead to lots of unruliness. Pure and simple.

I have encountered a group of teenagers that thought it would be funny if they moved *really* slowly through the Space Mtn. queue. Apparently, they took it upon themselves to see how angry the line of people behind them would get before they picked up the pace.

Yes, the cheerleaders have a stigma about them and sometimes it's hard to ignore. But if it reaches a point where an entire bus load of people is affected by their cheers, I think something should definitely be said.

It's not ALL the cheerleaders, but it certainly isn't "one set" either. If you go back and read all the prior posts, the odds that every single person with a negative cheerleader story were all annoyed by the SAME group is pretty dang slim.

I know I said it before, but we've all been on class trips or similar outings in the past. We've probably all done some obnoxious things, but when your good time starts to infringe on other people's good time (or in the case of a crowded bus after closing, QUIET time), then you need to have the empathy necessary to consider those around you. Some kids on class trips get so giddy and exhilarated by the stimulation and lack of adequate supervision, and they think you'll have a good time by watching THEM have a good time. Classic stuff. Happens all the time. The ego isn't exactly fully formed by then, and most kids have a tendency to think that the world, indeed revolves around them. It's not a slight against kids, per se, it's a recognizable trait, and learning how to empathize with others, being considerate of others, is part of the ego development process. But that means, sometimes, you have to be told you're being an annoying pain in the junk, and to knock it off, followed by the weary applause of those aroujnd who agree with you.

No one is blaming ALL the cheerleaders, just the set of mis-behaving, over-excited ones.
