Changes to Spaceship Earth Descent.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Sadly, that is not progress, He is supposed to be facing you, not the wall. Though sadly that has not been the case since the 07 refurb.

I cant believe none of you get it. This is a pure concept piece to reflect the decline and influence of the printed media in a digital age. The boy reflecting that the printed press still produces output but by talking to the wall it indicates that no one is interested in hearing that message.

As of yesterday, several of the "lit show curtains" (aka , the tarps with stars) have been removed during the descent.. These areas are not lit yet until work finishing progressing in the areas revealed.

meanwhile.. The visible rock formation is that of the caverns from the 94 refurb.. isn't that what everyone wanted? At least drop the tarps where possible and let the old sets be visible? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;)

I'd turn a blind eye of someone get a few flash pics of the descent if the adjacent cars are empty...

...and some none-flash of the new lighting...

Am I crazy, or has the paper boy been moving and speaking for the better part of five years now? He even looks over his shoulder at the ride vehicles now and then. Yes, he was motionless when the ride very first came back from refurb....but that's been fixed for a long time. Had he broken again?

Very glad to see the finale finally being finished!

You're not crazy. He did move since 2007 and did occasionally look over his shoulder towards ride vehicles.

Ahhhh, man... The moment I lower my hopes about something so I won't get disappointed, someone gets my hopes back up...

No offense, what y'alls are saying is hogwash right now and honestly sounds like stuff you haven't seen/noticed before is just coming into focus....

I'll check intensely tomorrow but I can definitely say there would've been word among the Ops team if a new ending was in the works for MONTHS now (ie, Test Track closed in April yet the news sprang to us Ops CM's about a year ago).

Very profound.

I loved Iron's voice. To me, it felt like he was my grandpa telling me this wonderful story as if he actually lived through all that. He has a great story telling voice.

This thread is depressing. I keep coming hoping for actual news on the descent... The narrator debate is based on who/what you know. I'm a fan of Kronkite over Irons or Dame Judy.

I liked his voice too.

In fact, I liked all of the voices they've used at SSE. Who can fault Vic Perrin, Walter Cronkite? And Judi Dench has a beautiful voice too, full of the necessary gravity. All voices have been great choices.

It's the scripts where I prefer some versions over others. Hey, I remember when they swapped Perrin for Cronkite, in 1986. I thought it was silly, Disney dumbing down their product. A less inspiring script, read by the big celebrrity instead of the voice artist.
Little did I realise back then that EPCOT would get worse, and worse, and worse. Soon, we'll have 'Miley Cirus and Thor's Adventures Through Communication' in SSE.

Believe me, as a fan of the parks, I hope you're right too. The descent is just wasted space. I definitely hope there is some sort of legit reasoning by the speculation here and it isn't hot air.

Travis?

There have already been changes... I'm not saying this is going to be a fanboi funfest and it's going to be everything you hoped and dreamt for.. but there are improvements coming, and some are already in place. I'm just happy that it'll be more than a bunch of curtains.

Indeed. Heck, just having the very tiny bit of (evidently old) eye candy visible on the descent last night was a huge improvement over the inky black or sometimes on star tarps that made up the descent. If they keep doing what they're doing and just peel back the curtains and brush off the rust, that would be a great change in my book. Of course, my first ride was in 2010, so there's that.

Yes-and is at the parks most every day looking for the slightest change. I'd tend to believe him
"Just got off Spaceship Earth (while listening to Jeremy Irons version), and I can confirm that nothing has been touched."
His exact words from Twitter. I'll pretty much count the earlier reporting that something was going on as false, at least in my mind. It's been the same for the past five years, why do anything now when "normal" guests seem to enjoy the screens?
