Changes to Spaceship Earth Descent.

the entire issue can be summed with this:

Spaceship Earth has no heart... It was ripped out in 2007.

Any heart coming back? So far it sounds like a curtain or two has been removed to reveal empty space? Hopefully they at least clean up all the junk lying overhead, the hanging insulation, and dust on the pot lights along the track. Maybe take out all the ugly metal poles everywhere too. I hate those three big triangles that come together in a point where the city use to be, no effort was made of that at all. Maybe they will add to it now. Just part of my wish list. :)

agreed. also, let me go a step further. i've always felt like spaceship earth set the tone for future world. i'm not sure if that's what it was intended to do, but the vibe i always got from '81-late '90s EPCOT is that spaceship earth was a majestic introduction (or epic conclusion, depending on when you rode it) to what you were about to/had seen during the day. the cronkite and irons version did that for me. now, like maelstrom suggests, it seems like a...tour of the museum of natural history with my sixth grad leave-replacement english teacher who told me that i couldn't be part swiss because that didn't exist; instead i was part swedish. ya know, swedish cheese, the swiss chef. same thing.
Prior to 07, Spaceship Earth set the scene beautifully and IllumiNations really did feel like the epic conclusion.

I didn't think he was getting worked up or talking down to people. He was merely defending his position, which is necessary on these boards if one wants to 'survive'. I'm sure had he not said anything when people question his posts, we'd think he'd have run away and hid because he was unreliable.

Had you quoted or read the rest of my post, I think you would have understood it better. I supported his "defending his position" but he was talking down to people, though I think it was unintentional. It is hard to become an insider on this forum but I think he is on his way and I provided him with some tips, if you read my example, which you seemed to omit form your quote. Try again :)

I think your spot on. The seriousness of the Irons ending was a perfect and great way to set the scene for night time, and also the spirit of epcot.

My first post ever on this amazing forum and what I MUST say is that Spaceship Earth immediately changed when that gorgeous descent music was taken. If they kept that but switched up the scenery, it wouldn't have been such a smack in the face of a change, but it gave the whole descent a different feeling :(

Agreed, that music used to give me chills and was the perfect ending to the ride. It's feels as if the people who redid the ride never rode it before redoing it...

I never rode SSE during it's Tomorrows Child days but have heard that was a fantastic ending also.

indeed it was. "tomorrow's child" was really way to cap the attraction. however, i'll cede that it did have a dated feeling. the pre-'07 update worked for me as well.

I don't think anyone argues that SSE needed an update... and for the most part, the update was very successful... The problem lies with the descent... I want to see a Dragonfly that is a spaceship.. The future was still plenty 'futuristic'...

Tomorrow's Child sounded like something I refused to sing in a second grade cafeteria PTA meeting. The song was beyond dated and I was thrilled to see it go.... just very disappointed with what is there.

I really wish I could have experienced Jeremy Irons' narration, it sounds so much better. Don't get me wrong I've always been an admirer of Judi Dench but I felt her narration was lacking something when I went on Spaceship Earth.

Tomorrow's child remains one of my favorites, and I can still hear Walter Cronkite in my head narrating over the beginning of Tomorrow's Child at the beginning of the descent. It never felt dated to me, and still doesn't when I listen.

Wait a minute -- weren't you around 6 when Tomorrow's Child left SSE?

it was always a favorite of mine (and still is), but i understand that not everything can stay in the '80s. the irons and cronkite versions run neck-and-neck in my book.
