Changes to Spaceship Earth Descent.

Incredible, but I couldn't expect less from such a fantastic author. I was amazed to learn how involved he was with EPCOT in the beginning, and of how much of a fan he was.

Let's hope he haunts those in charge to do another revision to the attraction!

more to come... as I said in my original post... good stuff soon.. :).... FINALLY SSE is getting what it deserves ;)

Im getting excited, I hope I hope. But the question is, truly something worthwhile? or just cleaning up all the junk and curtains? Ill take the cleaning up over nothing, but Ill be patient till we learn more. Thanks

Just got off SSE about 45 minutes ago, and I still can't help but feel let down after the amazing music and AAs.

In the future, we'll all be androgynous cartoons! Thanks, Siemens!

I seriously hope the rumors of change are true.

Yes he was facing the wall and waving his newspaper while yelling Extra! I've never seen him do anything but face the wall still and silent.

Sadly, that is not progress, He is supposed to be facing you, not the wall. Though sadly that has not been the case since the 07 refurb.

Just got back from a quick run to the parks to try and take advantage of the rain washing everyone out and took a spin on SSE. On the descent I noticed quite a few things that were lit up that I had either never seen, were previously behind tarps/walls, or had noticed but were never actually lit up. The first thing that stood out to me was some kind of space-like rock formation to the right of the car just after the "star field" which was something I had never seen and had appeared to be behind tarps/walls the last time I rode but now is in full view and very well lit. The other thing that really stood out was the triangle "asteroid" like explosion that I had barely seen before but which was never actually lit. Today it was lit, as were a lot of the other triangles during the descent.

The space rock thing is most likely the "cave" ceiling from the 94 descent.

Interesting. Gives even more support to the wdw71fan's suggestion that work is being planned. (Not that I didn't believe '71...proving to be quite reputable :)). Thanks for posting.

I'd say it is progress. From what I recall, he is damaged, and that's why he's now facing away from us -- hides the damage. First bit of progress was painting a scene on the wall, so he's not just staring at a blank wall. And now he's talking--OK, that's good too.

But he isn't saying what I want to hear again. In the Cronkite version he said "Extra! Extra! New York Daily!" That's what the poster asked for 20 posts or so ago (can't get the hang of multi-quoting on the new version of the forum yet). The sound that appears to have been added now is not that classic whiny-voiced line of old. But it's still better than nothing.

Better yet, of course, would be fixing him so he could face us. So this is progress...just not as much progress as we'd like.

He has been talking for most of the last 5 years. The fact that he stopped is news to me.

I'll take it. Even though it's not as much as we'd all love, it is better than nothing. It reveals that TDO isn't completely ignorant of the need to enhance/fix/return attractions to the way they SHOULD be.
I won't begrudge them this.

Perhaps a very timely find (both for Ray Bradbury's death, and the appropriateness of the dumbing down of Spaceship Earth's script discussion) Epcot Explorer on Twitter has linked to a recently posted copy of Ray Bradbury's original script of Spaceship Earth. Interesting stuff.

Just been looking at the beginning and it is amazing to see how, while not EPCOT, there were still real ideas and ambitions behind the EPCOT Center. Where is that heart now? Character merchandise and thrill rides? Where is the higher calling? Why does it seem that the public would doubt such ideas coming from The Walt Disney Company?

Dench: "It Turns out there are copies of some of these books in the libraries of the middle east being watched over by Arab and Jewish scholars. Call it the first back-up system. The books are saved and with them, our dreams of the future."

Vs.

Irons: "But all was not lost. For far across the land, from Cairo to Qurtaba, Jewish Teachers and Islamic Scholars continued the quest for knowledge. In libraries of wisdom, they debated ideas and shared new discoveries with all who would listen."

:(

Thats just brought a tear to my eye reading that , i could hear him saying it

Indeed. The rocks infront of the non-spinning spinning rods from 1994, at the first levelling off in the core. They have been visible since 2007, but only lit by ambient light.

I had never seen these in my many previous rides, it was just black space and I seem to remember a tarp/wall up the last time I rode. The lighting last night was way more than ambient light, as there were some very colorful streaks in the rock (looked to be UV lit by the colors), and there were background areas that were clearly lit by show lighting. The asteroid/explosion as well. During the descent I also noticed that there were many track-side and overhead black lights turned on that had never been on before, turning what has usually been a black, sometimes star tarp descent into a slightly more colorful and distracting descent.

Indeed... They've been there since 94 but only recently (this week?) been purposely illuminated. Sounds like 3rd shift is indeed tinkering. Thanks for posting.
