Changes to Spaceship Earth Descent.

Apparently, with how close the AA was to the guests, it was a popular space for the crazies to jump out and either pose or reach out from the cars to try and grab the newspaper from his hands (the most popular spot for crazies now who are doing it on purpose is now the Greek mathematician, to pose among the AA's there).

I don't know why they couldn't just put the AA further away from the cars though. That's where it bothers me honestly.

unfortunately i've seen a number of videos on you tube with regards to the 'car jumping'. i watched one not long ago when a group of friends were jumping out of the moving Horizons ride cars, walking around the back of the sets, into the sets, infront of the sets, all while filming it. apparently it was filmed just before the ride closed for good, so i'm not sure whether security didn't notice or didn't care or what. the ride appeared to be completely empty apart from these car jumpers.

i for one would be petrified to jump out of the car just for a photo. who knows what those animatronics could do to me! lol.

They could easily put a different vignette there.

My personal take on this Siemen's version of SSE:

The entire ascent is fantastic. The changes made during that refurb are incredible. The AAs are fluid and I loved the scenes.

The ride essentially "ends" as you hear the last line from Judy Dench and see our great Spaceship Earth.

From then on, the descent is a Siemen's technology commercial. I am not a fan but y'know what? My son absolutely LOVES the ending. He loves getting to see his face put on a stick figure doing all sorts of "futuristic" stuff. We do SSE at least 3 or 4 times each trip because it's a favorite of our entire family. I can get over the crap descent in trade for the overall experience.

Now that said, my favorite version of this attraction was the Tomorrow's Child version. It's what I see in my head when I think back to the trips I took as a kid. The Jeremy Irons version would be a very close second.

Hoot and Chief?

I have to give them a little credit just because at least they documented everything well, and weren't in it entirely for giggles.

That was one of the reasons why Splash Mountain had lap bars installed a while back.

I wish the "On this our spaceship earth" line was timed better. I also think cutting out a few of the more grating lines, "thank for the phoenecians" "the first world wide web" "unfortunately taxes" would also do wonders in improving the attraction. As for the video at the end, that could very easily be a post show feature.

Pretty much completely agree.

I just snooze during the descent, but I was really wow'd with the animatronic upgrades - they went from state of the 80's to state of the art. The fluid movement is almost jarring in some scenes, I'm so not used to it.

I like to listen to my own narration from previous versions - although I like Dench, I think the new script isn't great. I so wish Patrick Stewart had done it - I think he would have done it with a bit less whimsy, which I actually would have enjoyed.

Overall, I don't think the descent was ever that impressive to begin with - but I'd rather have a nice light show (and the ability to turn the silly screens off) and enjoy the ride back, instead of the commercial assault it kind of feels like now. But with the first half so vastly improved, I live with the snooze at the end - at least it's in A/C! :)

Is this the case of a wishful thinking thread? If we keep posting about the descent being fixed there is hope they will read it and it will actually happen?

Perhaps if we stare at the monitor long enough we can imagine more triangles....

Why would siemens care at all about daily operational difficulties like that? They would tell Disney to better enforce their rules and kick out offenders. I don't understand what that has to do with the descent...

Its really frustrating that they haven't replaced the hokey flash cartoon with something more impressive and with a more appropriate tone for the attraction. But I guess I understand why they don't - its probably the most memorable thing for today's park guest. HURR LOOK AT MAH HEAD ON THE CARTOON etc.

(I have to admit, it usually makes me smile because of how stupid it looks... but I still hate it)

I HATE SSE's ending! I always cover my face during that part. Bet I'm not the only one. :P

It is what it is. The descent is not what it used to be, but then again it is the closest we can get to Horizons. I never got a chance to experience Horizons (it wasn't open in 83 when I went and it closed by the time I went back). I would like to see more to the descent, however I do not let it take anything away from my enjoyment when I go on.

Someone asked about the story about the Paperboy.

I gave the answer.

Simple as that.
