Changes at DTD

Fox Sports Grill has more of a nightclub vibe very similar to the bars and clubs in that area and all of the Magic games are shown on the Fox owned Sunshine Network and FSN Florida. They could do their pregame or postgame reports from the restaurant if they choose.

That does seem to make a lot of sense and would be a great addition to downtown Orlando.

I agree this would be a good choice. I have been to the Atlanta one and it is nice. ESPN Zone is too large for downtown Orlando anyway. The Atlanta ESPN Zone closed and I thought it was packed all the time. It was very overpriced and I never went there.

It would make the most sense for a Fox Sports Grill to open up there:

As for ESPN Zone, it makes the most sense to go into Dowtown Disney but that will make for three ESPN restaurants on property (ESPN Club @ Boardwalk, ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill at Wide World of Sports, and ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney). I still think Disney will do it since they aren't calling the Wide World of Sports restaurant the ESPNZone brand and so they should. Downtown Disney currently doesn't have a sports bar and it would be hugely popular with tourist and locals. Citywalk already has NBA City and Nascar Cafe and the closest sports bar to Downtown Disney is an Ale House that is always packed.

It could be Disney will wait to see who moves in downtown before deciding. DTD makes the most sense to me though.

I don't think it would come from TDO, but from Burbank. There are a few successful ESPN Zones (DL DTD, NYC, Baltimore) - all in the heart of tourist district.

I just don't see how Disney Co. would let the pretty captive audience of national and international guests on WDW property escape to a downtown area that is going to get largely locals.

Why not, they're letting them go to CityWalk right now

Yeah, if you want EVERYTHING gone. :(

*sigh*

If that Island IS cleared...it better be freaking amazing.

Just curious Evan but since you aren't 21 how can you truly say this? If you had experienced it I would understand more like in Lee or the many other AC fan's out there. If its the asthetics oof the buildings then I can see why you would say this but the clubs themself you can't truly judge can you

How should that influence what I want to see there in the future?

Think for yourselfer
The club at Boardwalk would close I'm sure. People aren't going to WWoS for the food unless they are there for an actual sporting event.

1 large Zone in the Virgin building would be marvelous.

I don't think the club at the Boardwalk would close. There are thousands of hotel rooms within walking Distance of it, plus the highest capacity theme park.

I do agree though that a large espn zone at DTD would be great. Living 15 min from NYC I have been to the Times Square espn zone lots of times. It is great fun. There are different levels to it, an arcade, a bar, and a restaurant. I think WDW could easily support 2 ESPN zones. I mean it supports 2 rain forest cafes.

What would DTD look like with a huge laser tag arena? I know it is not the adult theme that people are looking for, but it did come to mind when I was thinking about all of the empty buildings and areas. I know a few kids who would enjoy it!

It certainly might bring in some business.

Could it be possible that if you had actually experienced PI that you might have a different opinion?

There are some seriously rabid fans here and they are definitely overstating PI as a whole. I don't doubt that the AC was a good production for some people's taste. But PI is largely over-rated. Usually by those trying to save the AC more than PI in general.

The entire AC/S.E.A. could be much more effective being integrated throught Disney's platforms, including the parks even to the point of also having it's own land at DAK.

IMO.

Sure, it could. I never said that, however. I do know, however, that it looked to be a LOT of fun, and very unique. I was looking forward to it.

I could see SEA (Hah!) like that, too. It already is in Tokyo DisneySEA. The fortress in front of Mt. Prometheus is just that- the HQ of the SEA.

Virgin becoming an ESPN Zone would probably work better if it WASN'T on the west side. This is probably part of the reason Virgin closed, although personally I could have spent hours in there (and many times did). The size is definitely big enough but if they did it their best option would be to convert some of the upstairs retail space to back of house operations for the restaurant so they're not trying to constantly fill up both floors with guests.

Virgin closed because the entire chain went under. West Side needs another big anchor venue like ESPNZone if it has any shot at thriving again.

D'you frequent the clubs much?

No, once each was enough. And that was during PI's popular years.

The AC was OK. But the rest of it was rather creepy. Something very artificial about it. An artificial "party" with superficial people. No thanks.

Virgin closed because people aren't buying CD's anymore, at least not nearly on the scale of needing to operate huge music stores like that.
